Beach, Bay and Bodrum – Summer Holiday Blog

My first all-inclusive holiday experience with Jet2Holidays

Ah, summer! I always look forward to spending this quality time with the family when we can detach from work, school and other commitments for a few days, explore new destinations together and engage and reconnect with each other. But planning the perfect holiday can be quite daunting – budgeting, organising meals, finding activities everyone can enjoy, arranging commutes, etc. So, this year, I was overjoyed when Jet2Holidays invited us on an all-inclusive holiday. This was my first package holiday experience, and I was so impressed with the entire process from start to end. The brand offers multiple options for all kinds of travellers, and planning a family holiday with Jet2Holidays was an absolute breeze.

Through the platform, I found multiple destinations they cater to across Europe and a few more in other parts of the world. All information, suggested itineraries and packages are so well organised, easily accessible and comprehensible it made the planning process very simple for me.

Why Turkey

Turkey was a destination I had heard so much about from those who had visited, and its history and culture always intrigued me. When I came across holidays to Turkey with Jet2Holidays I was pleasantly surprised to find resort destinations in abundance to choose from. We finally settled on visiting Bodrum during this trip, with plans to visit other destinations in the future.

Flipping through magazines and blogs and listening to travellers recount their experiences, I learned that Bodrum was a classic European city – it is a new-age city teeming with all things modern luxury, but its character and essence still stem from its glorious ancient history and culture. It is the perfect holiday destination for anyone – stretches of golden sand beaches are surrounded by ancient castles and remains that date back to Crusades.

We booked cost-effective flights to Bodrum via Jet2, a comfortable four-hour journey from Manchester with a 22kg baggage allowance bonus per traveller. The check-in facilities were flexible, with the option of completing the task between 28 days to six hours before our departure via the app. It had to be the least stressful I have ever been about getting to the airport in time. The brand’s app and customer service were also impeccable, paying attention to every detail that would help us plan the perfect holiday for our taste and comfort. With their help, we could plan enjoyable activities and did not have to worry about the usual hiccups, like arranging our commute to our hotel from the airport – it was all taken care of! Finding your way around a new city can be stressful when you have just landed, so this was useful. Their services even helped us find the best accommodation that fit our budget and provided many options for eating, relaxing and entertainment. We made Aquasis Deluxe Resort & Spa our home during these five nights.

Located approximately an hour and 45 minutes from the airport, this property is a sprawling haven tucked along the Turkish coastline. It features stunning architecture, plenty of rooms, five animated bars and seven exquisite restaurants, each offering specialised cuisines, including local Turkish, Japanese, Mexican, Indian and more. Our package included buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main restaurant and one dining experience at any of the a la carte restaurants.

The hotel has four outdoor pools, including two for children, complete with sun beds to bask in the summer glory, an indoor pool to cool off during warmer days, and an aqua park. And if that is not enough for the water babies, the hotel also offers access to its private strip of the beach and private pier stretching over the pristine sea. Other activities and plans for children are well thought out, with a Children’s Club offering movie nights, story time, indoor games and arts and crafts, and a playground.

As for the adults, the spa is a great place for one to unwind after a long flight or sightseeing and truly relaxing on holiday. The beach bars and disco offer wonderful local and international wines, beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages so everyone can party! The hotel is truly a destination in its own right, with something for everyone…

… This is exactly how we began our little vacation. We arrived quite late at Bodrum and hit the sack as soon as we reached our room that night, wanting to recharge and not waste a minute of holiday fun over the next few days.

Day 1

On our first morning, we decided to enjoy some of the facilities at the hotel. While my son had the time of his life on the slides at the Aqua Park, I went straight to the spa for my first-ever Turkish hammam. What an experience it was – I felt that the stresses of life back home were leaving my body. I felt truly relaxed and restored, a great note to start my vacation on.

Later that day, we ventured to Altinkum Beach, around 4.5 km from the resort. Although a short coastline, it constantly buzzes with locals and tourists and is lined with bars, restaurants, shops and coastal markets. It deserves at least a whole day to itself. We also spent a few hours browsing through the wonderful stalls at Mavişehir bazaar. It offers plenty of options in local handicrafts, clothes and accessories, fresh local produce of fruits, cheese, herbs and spices. I shopped to my heart’s content to go home with a piece (or quite a few in my case) of Turkey. We wound up our first night at the dinner buffet at the hotel, which was made even more spectacular with the evening entertainment. It was indeed an exuberant first day in Bodrum!

Day 2

The next day, we explored the local culture and its historical points, starting with a visit to the Temple of Apollo. The brilliance of ancient architecture can be felt even in the ruins of this historic place of importance. As if to say that the Sun God was truly with us, this visit in the open proved quite taxing, as the temperature of the day was soaring to nearly 40°C, beating down upon us. We returned to the hotel and took advantage of the indoor pool. We were still just getting used to the weather. But had we had more energy, I would have loved to visit the ancient city of Ephesus, steeped in history since ancient Greek times and the Middle Ages. The town of Pamukkale and its travertine terraces of mineral water would have also made a great day trip and are definitely on my bucket list.

We rented a car to drive down to the old city of Bodrum the next day. The drive is ever so scenic, as is the city’s beautiful bays and yacht-filled marinas. We had some local delicacies for lunch at one of the quaint markets and then decided to explore the Bodrum Castle, the ancient fortress that stood proud with its history in the modern city, now also housing the Museum of Underwater Archaeology with stories from shipwrecks and sea crusades in the Aegean. If we had more time on our hands, we would have also taken the ferry to the Greek island of Kos – imagine! Visiting another country was but a ferry ride away. One can also visit several other smaller islands by ferry from Bodrum. Outdoor enthusiasts can hire quad bikes for off-roading fun along dedicated mud tracks.

Day 3

On our second last day in Turkey, we visited the small fishing village of Gümüşlük, a quieter cultural alternative to the rumbling bustle of Bodrum city. It is famous for its gastronomic scene, with several seaside restaurants offering local cuisine and picturesque backdrops and settings. While we were here, we decided to eat at the Melengeç Balik, one of the most popular restaurants in the area with yet more Instagram-worthy memories to capture. We ran out of time again, but I would have loved to visit Rabbit Island, a short walk through the village where one can spot more ruins and sites, and of course fuzzy rabbits! We decided to end our day with an à la carte dinner at one of the speciality cuisines of the restaurant.

Unfortunately, this marked our last day out and about, as I met with a minor accident and injured my foot. But that only meant spending more time back at the resort in Didim the next day, enjoying the aqua park and even visiting the games arcade for indoor games and fun with the family. And then, all too soon, it was time to fly back home.

Barring my little accident, Bodrum was a wonderful experience, and the stress-free, all-inclusive package with Jet2Holidays was the cherry on the cake. It was a holiday in its true sense without the fuss and worry of planning too many things. Although there were not enough days to explore the beautiful destination, returning is as easy as booking the next adventure with Jet2Holidays.

Easy Aloo Tikki Recipe at home

Aloo Tikki is a North Indian street food made with a mixture of boiled & grated potatoes, peas, and spices. Here is my Aloo Tikki recipe.

aloo tikki

Aloo Tikki also known as Aloo Patties is  a crispy and delicious street food that is a comfort food for almost every Indian out there. Its crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside texture makes it one of the most popular chaats in India. Every time I have Aloo Tikki, its unique flavours take me back to the good old days. If you love street food, checkout my Pav Bhaji recipe here.

Aloo tikki recipe

It is a North Indian street food that is made with a mixture of boiled & grated potatoes, peas, and spices. It is super-easy to make at home and can be enjoyed in a number of ways. One can make a burger or aloo chaat with it or have it with chole ki sabzi. I personally love to have it with green & red chutney. In the traditional recipe, the tikkis are deep fried or shallow fried, but I like giving my own healthy touch to the recipes, so I make them in the oven. They come out just as yummy & tasty and I can enjoy them without getting off track my health goals. Here is my healthy Aloo Tikki recipe.

  • Bread Crumbs (for coating)

Instructions

  • Peel the boiled potatoes and grate them using a grater.

  • Mix everything together using a spoon and then mash it using hands to make a dough-like mixture.
  • Put a foil paper in the baking tray and then coat it nicely with oil.
  • Take some potato mixture, and using the hands make ball-sized tikkis.
  • Roll the tikkis in breadcrumbs until they are covered nicely and place them on the baking tray. Repeat this step for the entire mixture.

Things to do in London Bridge Area

London Bridge area is one of the most iconic structures of the world, seeing references in poetry, literature and even modern pop-culture, a monumentally significant symbol that crosses over the River Thames. And while Tower Bridge is a must-visit spot, it is its surroundings and activities that make it come to life. So, let’s cross over, shall we?

Accommodation & Commute

Although the 269 metres stretch of London Bridge is impressive, the district in itself has much to explore, and you may even want to make this your base during your visit to London. But if overnight in the area is not on your agenda, you can very easily access it through the London Bridge tube station that is well connected to other neighbourhoods and is situated a few minutes on foot away from the bridge and the Shard. As for accommodation in the area, if the Shard by Shangri-la seems a little steep, here are a few recommendations of hotels near the Shard.

Sightseeing & Activities

I must stress that one of the most luxurious ways to celebrate an occasion is to enjoy the views of London Bridge and its surroundings from ‘The View from The Shard’, sharing a glass of champagne with your loved ones. The tallest building in the UK, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city and its proximity to the London Bridge area offers a closer look at the buzzing London Bridge area.

For something a little more romantic, why not hop aboard the Thames Clipper, and explore the banks of the river through a cruise; or just on foot. Either way, you are bound to be met with sites such as the famous Tower Bridge. For a little more about the history and stories that London Bridge has borne witness to – right from fables of the infamous Jack the Ripper to moments of the Revolution, stop by the London Bridge Experience.

Other sights around London Bridge include ‘The Golden Hinde’ – a life-size reconstruction of the ship on which Sir Frances Drake set sail to explore the world, HMS Belfast – a warship from the Second World War, and the oldest cathedral of London – Southwark Cathedral.

Restaurants & Nightlife

The culinary scene in this area also has a reputation of its own. The famous and historical ‘Borough Market’ in present-day is not only a paradise for those looking for fresh produce but also a haven of speciality foods, with aisles of varieties of cheese, baked breads, cured meats, exotic fruits and vegetables and more.

For your morning fuel, I suggest visiting ‘The Breakfast Club’ – a homely and welcoming space for you to take the most important meal of the day – preferably generous servings of eggs and pancakes.

Some other famous eateries include ‘Casa do Frango’ – a Portuguese speciality restaurant famous for its fiery piri-piri chicken, Michelin restaurant ‘Native’ which uses fresh and local British ingredients, and ‘Padella’ – arguably the best pasta place in the city.

You can also stop by at ‘Belushi’ – a sports bar for some baps and beer, ‘Mug House’ a traditional pub for some great English Ale or just wind down at the famous ‘GONG’ bar at the Shard.

London Bridge and its many nooks and crannies are only some of the gems in the city. And if after reading this, you feel like you may have underestimated its significance, well, now you have an entire itinerary laid out for you. And I assure you, it will not disappoint.

Note: The spending money was gifted by Hotels.com, but all views are my own.

Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio, London Shopping Experience

I visited the Pernia’s Pop-Up studio, London to try some outfits, and it is a one-stop-shop for all the wedding and Indian wear shopping.

Designer Seema Gujral

Shopping is always fun, but nothing is more exciting than Indian bridal shopping. And what makes bridal shopping even more exciting is finding everything one needs from outfits to jewellery in one place. All the Asians settled in the UK will agree with me that shopping for Indian wear is a bit tricky here as there are not a lot of good options. One has to do a lot of research and go from shop to shop to find everything they need. I recently visited the multi-designer Pernia’s Pop-Up studio in London to try some outfits, and I am happy to report that our search is over. It is a one-stop-shop for all the wedding and Indian wear shopping. Checkout more Indian bridal shopping blog here.

Location

Pernia's Pop-Up shop
Designer Yashodhara

Located in London’s luxury shopping district, Mayfair, Pernia’s Pop-Up studio is home to some of the leading Indian designers. This is Pernia’s first international store and they have a beautiful collection of outfits to choose from. No matter what someone is looking for, there is something for everyone. With gorgeous lehengas, elegant anarkalis, chic indo-western pieces, and stunning accessories, Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio is a traditional wear heaven for all the would-be brides and fashion lovers out there.

Collection & designers at the Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio

Designer Abu Sandeep
Pernias Pop-Up Studio, London

The thing that I love the most about the collection is that it’s not just limited to heavier pieces, there are light outfits as well, that is ideal for smaller functions or evening parties. The collection is carefully selected and there is a perfect combination of pretty prints and edgy embroideries.

Designer Anita Dongre

Some of the designers available at the studio are Payal Singhal, Anita Dongre, Masaba, Abu Sandeep, Kalista, Aisha Rao, Yashodhara, Seema Gujral, Nupur Kanoi, Anushree Reddy, Tarun Tahilani, and more. Women’s clothing is not the only thing they have, there are great options for men as well. So, the grooms get to have some fun too.

Services they offer

Pernia Pop-Up shop

Pernia’s has an online store too, but I think being at a physical store is an entirely different experience. One gets to look at the outfits, see what they like the best, and then make an informed decision to buy them. There is a beautiful trial room at the studio, where one can try on the outfits. They have jewellery, footwear, and clutches too, so it’s easy to see what the final look will look like after adding all the accessories. In my opinion, it’s always a good idea to try and buy heavy Indian outfits, as they are an investment and we wouldn’t want to go wrong with those.

Designer Aisha Rao

They offer fitting services as well and there is also an option to get an outfit customised as per our preference. If we like something and want it in a different size, colour, or style, we can order and if it’s doable, they’ll get it made. I think it’s amazing to have a specially made designer outfit in our wardrobe.

Designer Nupur Kanoi

I had a great time at Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio and it lived up to my expectations. I loved the collection and was so mesmerized by the outfits. Whenever I have to shop for Indian wear next, I am going to buy it from them. If you are in London or are looking to buy good, designer Indian clothes in the UK, I would recommend you to check out Pernia’s Pop-Up studio. You won’t be disappointed, I promise.

Richmond Hill Hotel Review

I stayed at the Richmond Hill hotel and it was an amazing experience. The staff made sure that our stay was peaceful and we had a good time.

Richmond hill hotel

During our recent staycation to Richmond, I had the pleasure of staying at the Richmond Hill hotel and it was an amazing experience indeed. After staying in lockdown for almost a year, I was really looking forward to this staycation and the people at Richmond Hill made sure that our stay was peaceful and we had a good time. Situated next to the Richmond terrace, the Richmond Hill hotel is surrounded by lush greenery, picturesque views and beautiful walks. The location of the hotel is enough to put one in a good and relaxing mood. Find more hotel reviews here.

The hotel has two types of rooms, Georgian collection and Hill collection. The Georgian collection has antique interiors and reflects the history & heritage of the hotel, whereas the Hill collection has a more modern approach to it with bright colours. We stayed in the Hill suite and loved it. The rooms are designed by the award-winning K&H, and every room features a hand-stitched mattress from Heal’s of London. The picture-perfect setting and the Georgian style interiors of the hotel makes it a good place for weddings and other special occasions.

Pleasing views is not the only good thing about the Richmond Hill hotel, they have a beautiful outdoor terrace and a spacious restaurant, 144 On The Hill that has been recently done. They offer delicious breakfast & brunches, scrumptious all-day dining and fancy afternoon tea. They also have three types of picnic menus, brunch picnic, hilltop magic picnic and afternoon tea picnic. The picnics consist of yummy sweet & savoury delights and one can take away and enjoy them in Richmond Park or the Terrace Field.

There are some really nice places around the Richmond Hill hotel that one can visit during their stay. Here are some popular places I recommend:

petersham nursery
  1. Petersham Nurseries – A relaxing destination that includes a plant nursery, an elegant restaurant, an antique items shop. If someone wants to enjoy afternoon tea in an English country garden setting, then a visit to the Petersham Nurseries is a must.
ham house gardens
  1. Ham House Gardens – Ham House gardens sit on the banks of river Thames and have a collection of 17th century furniture and textiles and is a great place to visit for a unique historical experience
hampton court palace
  1. Hampton Court Palace – Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in Richmond. If one wants to get an insight into the royal history and relax in the beautiful, spacious gardens, then Hampton Court palace is the place to be.
richmond town centre
  1. Richmond Town Centre – With various high street stores, independent boutiques and a lot of places to explore, Richmond Town Centre is an ideal place for someone who wants to indulge in shopping.
richmond river boating
  1. Boating on the Richmond River – If someone wants to soak in the scenery peacefully floating across the Richmond river, then they can rent a boat and make the most of the picturesque surroundings.
cycling in richmond park
  1. Cycling in Richmond Park – Cycling around Richmond Park is a one of a kind experience and it has some of the best cycling routes one can ask for. One can rent a cycle and choose a route depending on their ability or the hire time.

All in all, if you want a break from routine life and want to go on a weekend getaway, then Richmond Hill hotel is the place for you. There are so many fun activities that one can indulge in during their stay. We had an amazing time there and even though we stayed there for only two days, we came back refreshed & energised. Can’t wait to plan another staycation to Richmond and experience Richmond Hill hotel’s hospitality again.

Jaljeera and Jaljeera Cocktail Recipe

Jaljeera is a refreshing and popular Indian summer drink. Here is Jaljeera recipe that can be easily made with ingredients available at home.

Whenever I hear the term summer drinks, the first name that comes to my mind is Jaljeera. For all the people who don’t know what Jaljeera is, it is basically cumin seeds water. It is a refreshing and popular Indian drink that is great for summer. The tangy taste of Jaljeera takes me back to my childhood days. I still remember the Jaljeera recipe my mom used to make, it tasted so delicious and we used to have it every day during summers. Find easier to make and delicious recipes here.

The reason why Jaljeera is so popular is that it is amazing for keeping the body cool. It helps in beating the heat by hydrating and rejuvenating the body. Jaljeera is also good for digestive health and it is often served as a welcome drink in many Indian restaurants. It can be had alone or one can have it with meals as it is a great appetizer. After hearing the name Jaljeera, one might think that it’s just Cumin water, but that’s not the case. A lot of other ingredients like mint, lemon juice & spices are combined with water & cumin seeds to make a fresh glass of Jaljeera.

It’s refreshing flavour makes it one of my favourite summer drinks and even though it doesn’t get very hot here in the UK, I still make it. It is super-easy to make and can be easily made with ingredients available at home. The last time when I made Jaljeera, I decided to give it a fun twist and made a cocktail out of it. So, here is my Jaljeera and Jaljeera cocktail recipe.

Summer Trends to Try this Season

Summers are here and they are all about colours, prints, light and breathable fabrics. Here are summer trends to try this season.

Summers are here and I can feel the warmth in the air. I am so excited to finally be able to enjoy warm days, bask in the sunshine, and wear cute summer clothes. Summers are all about colours, prints, light and breathable fabrics. We get very limited nice summer days in the UK, so I am always looking forward to summer fashion trends that I can rock for those days. I like my clothes evergreen, trendy and versatile. No matter what the weather is, I am inclined towards pieces and styles that can be used in various ways. So, here are summer trends to try this season. Find more fashion blogs here.

  1. Crop tops

No summer wardrobe is complete without crop tops. They are chic, stylish and are perfect for chill summer days. No matter if they are paired with jeans or skirts, they look good and there are many fun styles to choose from. I like wearing my crop tops with high waisted jeans or shorts. For someone who wants to wear a crop top but is not comfortable with showing too much skin, layering it with a thin overshirt is a good styling option.

  1. Wide leg trousers

The 80s wide leg trousers made a comeback sometime back and they are here to stay. I love their silhouette & how structured they are. Their retro and vintage vibes takes things to another level. They are comfy and are ideal for both casual outings and formal affairs. One can style them with a solid or graphic t-shirt for a relaxed, laid back look and with a nice feminine blouse/shirt for a more elegant & fancy look.

  1. Puff Sleeves

I am a big fan of puff sleeves, as they are enough to add a style statement to a boring outfit. They are dramatic, romantic and scream feminine. Whether it’s a puff sleeves dress or a top, it can be styled effortlessly as the sleeves are the star of the show. They instantly grab attention and make heads turn. When it comes to puff sleeves, structure and shape is everything so go for fabric that does justice to the trend.

  1. Pastel Colours

Summers are a time to flaunt colourful outfits and pretty pastel hues are the trend of the season. Pastel colours are subtle but are bright enough to standout and catch the eye. Having pastel colours in the wardrobe is a must as they add a pop of colour without being too much in the face and look classy. Pastel colours can be easily styled with neutral colours, prints, denim, deeper colours and even other pastel tones.

  1. Oversized Overshirts

Oversized overshirts have been around for quite some time now and I find them so practical and easy to carry. On the lazy days when picking an outfit is a struggle, they come in handy. I personally love checkered overshirts, as they are a good addition to a basic look. They can be worn over basic leggings, shorts, dresses or over swimsuits. One can also steal a shirt from their partner’s wardrobe and turn it into an oversized overshirt.

  1. Tiered Dresses

Tiered, flowy dresses are a staple for summers and I think every woman in the world embraces them. They are romantic, flirty and incredibly versatile. I like mini tiered dresses as they look super cute & casual, but one can go for midi or maxi depending on what length they prefer. They can be paired with sneakers or strappy sandals and can be easily dressed up or down just by playing around with the accessories.

  1. Square-Toe sandals

The 90s Square-Toe sandals have been ruling the fashion world since their comeback and can be seen almost everywhere. These geometric shaped sandals come in many different styles and look high-fashion & effortlessly chic. They are comfortable to wear and go perfectly with everything, be it dresses, trousers, or jeans. For a casual look choose flat slide ons and for a fancy look go for block or pencil heels.

So, these are some summer trends that I am looking forward to try. Hope you liked the blog. Let me know your favourite trend out of these. Stay tuned for more such blogs.

Swimsuit Shopping Guide – Best Online Places to Buy

Swimwear shopping guide. In this blog I have talked about the different styles of swimsuits and best online places to buy them.

swimsuit shopping guide

Shopping is a fun thing to do, but when it comes to shopping for swimsuits it seems like a dreadful process. All the women out there will relate to me on this that when it comes to buying a swimsuit a lot of questions go through our mind, like What kind of swimsuit to buy? Will it look good on my body type?, etc. Although there are no rules in fashion and one should wear whatever they want, but with swimwear things are a little tricky. Find more fashion blogs here.

Fit is the most important thing when it comes to swimsuits, so paying attention to it is a must. Most women feel self-conscious while wearing a swimsuit and that’s why one really needs to try different styles and see for themselves what they feel most comfortable and confident in. In this blog I am going to talk about the different styles of swimsuits and the best places to buy them.

  1. Bikini

Bikini is a two-piece swimsuit and it comes in lots of different styles. It looks super stylish and is perfect for that oomph factor. There are a variety of options to choose from for every body type, both in tops and bottoms. No matter if someone is looking for a swimsuit to flaunt their curves or needs a little extra coverage, there is a bikini style for everyone. One can also mix & match different pieces to create fun looks.

  1. One-Piece Swimsuit

This is a single piece swimsuit and it never goes out of style. One-piece swimsuit is chic and has a vintage look to it. It is an evergreen style and the most popular one out there. Over the years one-piece has evolved so much and the days when there were only few selected styles to choose from are a thing of the past. Now there are so many fresh cuts, prints and styles out there that one is spoilt for options.

  1. Tankini

Tankini is a two-piece swimsuit that has a tank top and bottoms. It combines the comfort of a tank top and sassiness of a bikini bottom in one swimsuit and can easily be called a modest version of a bikini. Tankini is comfortable & flattering and it provides much more coverage than a bikini. It is an ideal choice for someone who wants to enjoy wearing a two-piece swimsuit but isn’t comfortable showing their midriff.

  1. Rashguard Swimwear

A rashguard is an athletic swimwear made of spandex that is designed to protect against rashes and sun. The rashguard swimwear top usually has full or quarter sleeves and for the bottom there are bikini bottoms, shorts or long pants. For someone who wants to indulge in water adventures like surfing, kayaking, etc rash guard swimwear is the best choice. It covers up the body and prevents scrapes, chafing and sun burns.

Now that you know the different styles of swimwear, let’s get into the best online brands for swimsuit shopping. These are my favourite places to buy swimwear from.

  1. Calzedonia

Calzedonia is an Italian fashion brand that sells beachwear, leggings and tights. They have an amazing collection of trendy and stylish swimwear. There are a wide range of options for bikinis on their website, but one can find a few classic one-piece swimsuits as well. Their swimsuits fit extremely well and there are a variety of fresh styles and cuts to choose from. If someone is looking for sassy bikinis, Calzedonia is the place to shop from.

Pour Moi is a brand that specializes in luxurious lingerie, swimwear and nightwear. They have on-trend swimwear for all body types. Whether one is looking for a sassy bikini or a chic tankini, Pour Moi has it all. They have fun and exciting colours, patterns & styles in swimsuits and there is something for everyone. Their fitting is good and their swim tops offer tremendous support, especially for those with D-cup busts and up.

  1. Boden

Boden is a British clothing company and they have an awesome range of holiday-ready swimwear and beachwear. With flattering styles, bold colours and playful prints, their swimsuits are perfect for a summer vacation. Stylish swimwear is not the only good thing about Boden, they are planet friendly as well. The nylon that they use in their swimsuits is made from 100% recycled materials.

  1. Asos

I bet most people out there obsess over Asos clothes and accessories, but their swimwear collection is just as good. If someone is looking for affordable and cute swimwear, then Asos is an ideal place for that. They have a wide variety of cool swimwear and beachwear for almost all body shapes & sizes. From bold printed bikinis to chic solid one-pieces, Asos has it all and one can easily find something they like.

  1. H&M

Everything about H&M swimwear collection screams vacation & fun in the sun and they have some of the coolest swimsuits online. There are plenty of pastel colours, pretty prints & styles to choose from at great prices. As the swimsuits are not very expensive, one can buy in bulk and mix & match to have some fun. All in all, with on-trend styles and reasonable prices, H&M is an amazing place for all the swimsuit lovers.

Best Sunscreens for Summers

Sunscreen are our best friend in summers as they protect us from harmful sun rays. Here are the best sunscreens to keep sun damage at bay.

sunscreens for summers

Summers are approaching and I am excited as I love spending time in the sun and enjoy the sunshine. But being out in the sun has its own downside. It can damage the skin, cause premature ageing, sunburn & skin cancer and that’s why I take sunscreens very seriously. Checkout more skincare and beauty blogs here.

No matter what the weather is, one should never skip applying sunscreen, especially while stepping outdoors. It protects the skin from harmful UV rays and prevents any skin damage that might happen. Therefore, using a good and effective sunscreen with the right amount of SPF is very important.

What is SPF?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The level of protection a sunscreen gives the skin from the UVB, or burning rays is measured by the SPF number it has. It also indicates how long a sun protection product allows us to stay in the sun without getting sunburn.

What do different SPF numbers mean?

sunscreens

A question that many of us struggle with while buying sunscreen is what number of SPF to buy. We usually think that a sunscreen with a higher SPF number will give us better protection than the one with a lower SPF number, but that’s not the case. A sunscreen with SPF30 blocks 97% of the UVB rays, whereas one with SPF50 blocks 98% of UVB rays, so the difference is not that much.

Although using a higher SPF is always a good idea, do remember that SPF only protects us from UVB rays. For overall protection, using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF30 is recommended. While staying indoors, when not in direct sunlight, a sunscreen with SPF15 can also work.

Types of sunscreens

There are 2 types of sunscreen commonly found in the market, chemical sunscreen and physical sunscreen. A chemical sunscreen soaks into the skin, absorbs the UV rays and changes them into heat and releases them from the body, whereas a physical sunscreen creates a protective barrier on the skin that filters out UV rays.Physical sunscreens tend to be more moisturising, cause less irritation and are best for sensitive skin, but they can be a bit heavy and leave a film on the skin. Chemical sunscreens on the other hand absorb quickly, are thinner and spread easily, which makes them best for swimming & sports.

Both physical and chemical sunscreens are equally effective in protecting against the harmful rays, it is our personal preference which one to choose. Another thing to keep in mind while choosing a sunscreen is to go for a non-comedogenic sunscreen as it doesn’t clog pores and prevents breakouts and acne.

When to apply sunscreen?

holiday essesntials

Sunscreen should be applied daily, even while staying indoors and one must never-ever skip them while stepping outside no matter what the weather is. A question that many of us have about sunscreen is, in which order it should be applied. Sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes before stepping outside and it should be the final step in your skin care routine and therefore it should be used after the moisturizer. When doing makeup, sunscreen should come before the primer. Primer acts as a barrier between your sunscreen & makeup and keeps its effectiveness intact.

When it comes to protection from the sun, using sunscreen just once a day is not enough, it should be reapplied every 2 hours. While swimming or if one sweats heavily, it is recommended to use a water-resistant sunscreen or apply it more frequently.
