10 Things You Can Do To Relax This Holiday Season

Sometimes the most important thing in the whole day is just to pause and breathe in the moment. Every now and then it’s important to give yourself a break, slow down a bit, relax and unwind. We are always pre-occupied with our lives and juggling too many things like work, household chores, having a social life and so much so that, we just forget to hit the pause button. I know I am always on my toes running from pillar to pole juggling between my job, blog, studies and family. We even get stressed about festivals. The amount of cleaning, cooking or shopping you need to do sometimes just stresses you out.
Hence I have decided to take a break this Christmas, and do all the things that I enjoy. Celebrate the festivities with the small things that make me happy and give me satisfaction.

One of the things that come to everyone’s mind when we talk about unwinding is a spa weekend. But let’s get real, we don’t always have the time or money to do so and same goes for vacations.

So here are a few ideas for you to enjoy your holidays without breaking your bank:

  • Go out for a coffee or hot chocolate: Winters are all about warm snugly drinks, and cafes are nicely decorated and Christmasy during this time of the year. An even better idea is to go café crawl – try out all the cafes near your area to see which one serves the best coffee or hot chocolate. Then go crazy on the sugar high.
  • Read a book: Remember the book you have been meaning to read since your last resolution. It’s time to grab a copy get cozy under the blanket or by the fire in your bedroom or mix up the café crawl with a book reading.
  • Get a digital detox: spend the time with your friends and family and turn off the internet and all your gadgets for a few day. Ok, let’s get realistic here at least a few hours and just relax.
  • Detox your body: After a digital detox it makes sense to follow a detox plan as well between Christmas and New Year. It’s the thing our body needs after all those bubblies and candies this year.
  • Exercise: After all the merriment you’ve had this Christmas, get your body back on track by hitting the gym or going for a run. Getting your sweat on helps increase your endorphins, blood circulation, improves your mood and makes you more relaxed.
  • Walking: If you aren’t a fan for some hardcore exercise then just go for a walk, alone, with a dog or a friend. Enjoy the mesmerising lights, the humungous Christmas trees and the decorations around your town.
  • Catch up: Invite your friends over for some tea, brunch or even a dinner and catch up on all the gossip and happenings in each other’s lives. After all festivals are all about enjoying them with your close friends and family.
  • Get Artsy: Remember that DIY pin you’ve saved on Pinterest for over a couple a months. Well, its time get your craft kit out. This Christmas get creative with your gifts and give your friends and family something they may remember. Make the scented candles or the dream catcher. Or even better, paint and fill up that empty wall in your house. If nothing else it would be a great story someday.
  • Wardrobe Detox: It’s time to take the plunge. Get rid of all the clothes you don’t wear, don’t fit or are out of style. This is the only way to fit in more new clothes. 😉 Make it a fun day by getting your friends and some champagne and strutting in your house like a model. (Imagine Sex and the City scene with Carrie)
  • Get Organised: Have a pile of mail, bills and random papers lurking around in some drawer? Get your work mode on and clean your paperwork or pending tasks at home. Send a thank you note and reply to all those Christmas greetings and check this off your list.

So now that you have detoxed, relaxed and enjoyed your Christmas. Get your boots on to rock the work with a fresh mind. How do you like you unwind and relax? Let me know in the comments below.

  • Never go completely bare in terms of accessories, even if you are a minimalist. Add character to your outfit by adding a unique touch with some trinket.
  • Cocktails rings and statement neckpieces are always in vogue. Stock up on a few and whip them out whenever in need of some quick glam.
  • Hair accessories such as clips, beads and chains are wonderful for those days when you don’t want to wear any jewellery.
  • Belts are the most underrated accessory – they can completely transform the look of an outfit. Consider wearing belts with one-piece outfits such as dresses, jumpsuits, etc.
  • When purchasing a clutch or handbag, always go for a size that complements the purpose – compact bags work best for occasion-wear and mid-to-huge sized bags are great for daily use.
  • If you want a particular accessory to stand out, wear it with a black outfit – such apparel naturally foregrounds accessories.
  • When wearing a neckpiece, make sure it complements the neckline of your outfit. For instance, a short chain and pendant wouldn’t look good with a boat-neck top/dress.
  • Rose gold accessories have a young, feminine vibe, so if you want a more delicate look, go for the rose gold ones.
  • Do not over-accessorise, unless you are going for the boho-chic look. Piling on all your bangles, beads, rings and necklaces isn’t a good idea, no matter how simple your outfit is.
  • Keep refreshing your stash of accessories – accessory trends are the simplest and least expensive to keep up with.

10 Tips to Get Rid of Dandruff

hair treatment
Do you find yourself dusting dandruff off your shoulders all the time? Are you afraid that someone may notice the white flakes on your clothes?

Dandruff may be an embarrassment, but it’s also a serious health issue. Here are ten reasons why you may get dandruff:

  • Dry Scalp: A dry scalp tends to flake and leads to frizzy hair. This invites dandruff.
  • Excessive shampoo: Shampoos contain chemicals that could strip your scalp of its natural oils, thus causing dandruff.
  • Oiliness: Two of the most common causes of dandruff are oiliness and dirt. A greasy scalp accumulates dirt and leads to dandruff.
  • Styling: Styling products contain strong chemicals, which may cause skin irritation. Serums and hair sprays, when used in excess or too frequently, may be harmful for your hair.

Now that you are aware of the causes, the next step is to prevent dandruff. Follow this simple hair care routine to get rid of it.

  • Massage: Massage your scalp with mild essential oils, followed by a regular wash.
  • Shampoo: Use an anti-dandruff shampoo, and brush your hair after the shower.
  • Diet: Consume foods which are rich in zinc, as it helps to prevent dandruff.

Here are some tips to help you part ways with dandruff:

  • Hair wash: Wash your hair regularly with an anti-dandruff shampoo and keep your scalp clean.
  • Natural products: Make use of products that contain natural ingredients and avoid chemicals, as they are harsh and cause flakes.
  • Itching: White flakes lead to itchiness and irritation.  Control the urge to itch, as it may lead to bleeding in the skin of the scalp.
  • Coconut oil: Massage your scalp with coconut oil, as it is one of the most effective solutions to treat dandruff.
  • Aspirin: This may seem strange, but aspirin tablets have been known to control dandruff. Mix aspirin powder with your shampoo, leave it on for 2 minutes and wash it off. Aspirin contains salicylates that treat dandruff.
  • Fuller’s earth: Popularly known as multani mitti, Fuller’s Earth absorbs the extra oil and dirt which are the major causes of dandruff. Apply a paste of Fuller’s Earth with water, and leave it on for 20 minutes for a dandruff-free scalp. Applying multani mitti hair pack is one of the easiest home remedies for dandruff and has no side effects either!
  • Tea tree oil: Tea tree has anti-inflammatory properties and a high rate of dermal penetration, thereby making it an excellent solution to get rid of dandruff.
  • Salt: Salt is the easiest remedy for dandruff. It helps to scrub off flakes easily. Rub salt into your scalp for 10 minutes and wash off.
  • Henna: Henna has the ability to bind to the keratin in hair strands. It also provides relief from scalp irritation and oiliness.
  • Travelling: Pollution increases the likelihood of dandruff, which is why you must always cover your hair while travelling.

Follow these tips for a dandruff free scalp and hassle-free grooming.

Ten Tips for Your Dream Dressing room

We all have a vision of that perfect place called our dressing room, adorned in colours of white and pink. My perfect dressing room will have lots of hearts and flowers in it and also fairy lights.

Now you must be think, why I am talking about dressing rooms, well that is because currently I am drawing up a mood board while I’m figuring out the wardrobe design for the dressing room I would like to have very soon. Promise to post the pics as soon as it is done 😉  While doing so, a thought came to my mind that even as we’d all like to live in mansions and mod houses and have a few rooms just for our clothing that may not always be the case. Houses are getting smaller every day and wardrobe design is now all about how best to use limited space instead of being extravagant in terms of size.

dressing room

So, here is a list of 10 tips to help you all get that dream dressing room, possibly in a more compact space.

  • Lights – Make sure your wardrobe or drawers have enough light around so that you can see what is hidden in those dark corners.
  • Separators – All of us would love to have a dressing room of our room. But what might work best is a folding screen that you can use as a separator in order to create a dressing area. Such wardrobe design would strike on a very old Hollywood note too.
  • Trays – Use beautiful trays to neatly organise your accessories, makeup and perfumes on your vanity table or bathroom shelves.
  • Dress up your closet – Use bright paint or wallpapers to dress up your closet and give it a cheerful vibe. If your wardrobe is small, use light colors to create a sense of space. In this situation, less is more, so restrict your creativity to maybe just one wall.
  • Keep your space clean – An organized wardrobe and dressing space will do wonders for your physical appearance and how you dress up. Thus, make sure your space is always organised and things that you are not using for a season are tucked away in your storage area so that you have space available for seasonal clothes.
  • Sliding doors – If you are tight on space, choose sliding doors over swinging ones. This way, opening the closet won’t require much space.
  • Shelving System – This method is your best friend in terms of organising shoes, small clothes and knick–knacks. Invest in a decent shelving system so that your clothes are properly sorted within your wardrobe as well.
  • Labelling – Use labels on boxes so that you are aware of what is tucked in which box and finding something isn’t a struggle.
  • Folding Techniques – This may take some effort, but get clued up on the fastest, most efficient folding techniques. Store your clothes folded neatly and you’ll thank yourself when getting ready in a hurry!
  • Lingerie – Keep one drawer or shelve exclusively for your lingerie. The trick to maintaining hygiene and quality of your underclothing is keeping it separate from your other clothes.

My Favourite Makeup Products from 2015

I have been going through my makeup kit and all the reviews I have posted here so I can decide what my favourite products from 2015 are. Trust me, it has not been easy, but finally, I’ve made up my mind! So, here is a list of all the products which have ranked very highly in my beauty cupboard in the past one year.

2015-Makeup-products

  1. Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette – I use it almost every day, especially the neutral shades. It has also come in handy during the winter wedding season; the shades perfectly matched my gold-toned ethnic outfits. I’m now thinking of investing in a second Naked palette and maybe it’s a little late to get hooked to it but here I am now!
  1. Garnier Miceller Water – Garnier’s Micellar Water has proved to be quite handy. While reviewing it I wasn’t sure I’d repurchase it for it wasn’t effective on eye makeup. But since it clears all other products from the face in just about one swipe, I’m slowly realizing it really cuts down on after-party skincare time.
  1. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation – This was a great discovery and investment this year. It gives such lovely, undetectable coverage, and that too with sun protection! I’m not sure I will ever leave it, but since it can get drying sometimes, I’ll have to come up with ways to fix that in the winter months.
  1. Sultry Sulfurese Revlon – Oh, what a pretty, pretty shade of pink this is! This is literally my go-to lip product because it works for everything – regular office-wear, casual outings and even for a party look.
  1. Chanel No5 Perfume – My favourite perfume ever, it is subtle but powerfully alluring; just like me! You can gift this to me any day and make me oh-so-happy!

  1. Clarins Hydraquench Cream SPF 15 – This has been my favourite cream for a while now. It gets absorbed into my skin instantly and both hydrates and nourishes it. And best part is, it comes with SPF!
  1. L’Oreal Paris Lumi Magique Primer – I feel primers are a must for my skin and this L’Oreal product is a multi-purpose wonder. It ensures luminous, highlighted face contours, gives a dewy finish and allows foundation to simply glide on.
  1. The Body Shop Brazil Nut Dry Oil – This is a magical product that has worked wonders on my face, hair and skin. I don’t know what I’d have done without it during the chilly times of winter 2015. The lovely smell is a bonus!
  1. Clarins SPF50+ Sunscreen – I take my sun protection very seriously and I have to say, this Clarins product was quite a good buy. A little expensive may be, but it does what it promises so I’m not complaining.
  1. L’Oreal Professional Mythic Oil – Oh what would I do without this? As a finishing product, this works as a lifeline for my long locks keeping them manageable, frizz-free and tame! This will probably remain a constant in my beauty kit.

Hope you all have enjoyed my round and the review posts so far. 2016 should definitely bring some more goodies as we progress further.
