L’Oreal White Perfect Magic White Double Brightening Eye Cream Review

Hi All!

Today I’m reviewing this under-eye cream I’ve been using for over a month now. It’s the Double Brightening Eye Cream from L’Oreal’s White Perfect Magic White range.

Loreal-Eye-Cream

I’ll begin by stating why I chose this product. Firstly, of course, I have dark circles. It’s a combination of genetics and not enough sleep that has caused these shadows under my eyes. I’ve had them for years and use Concealer on special nights when I’m going out. But I am constantly on the lookout for more permanent solutions and thus keep trying various products. The second reason is that L’Oreal is a trusted brand that has quite a reputation when it comes to skin products. So, when this came out, I thought, let’s give this a shot too!

It comes in a shiny, blue and white tube with a long, narrow nozzle. The packaging is suitable for extracting small quantities of the product and carrying around when travelling too. Though there’s just 15 gm of cream per pack, one needs just a dot-sized amount for both eyes, so it has lasted me long enough.

As to the application experience and effectiveness of this eye cream, here’s how it worked on me: The cream is a light yellow colour with a smooth, creamy texture. It feels very light on the skin and takes just about a minute to get absorbed. On application, it brightens up the eye area, without leaving any white-ish hue behind. The fragrance is mild and inoffensive, so that works perfectly too

Now coming to the question of reducing dark circles; like most eye creams, this L’Oreal product does not produce results overnight. Or even over two, three, four nights. Not over a week of regular application either. But, given my stubborn dark circles, I knew I had to persevere. After about a month of using it regularly, twice a day – once in the morning, once overnight – I think my dark circles have reduced. The skin under my eyes is not just lighter but softer as well. But if I don’t get enough sleep, my eyes are puffy and shadowed the next day again. That’s okay though. On the whole, this L’Oreal White Perfect Magic White Double Brightening Eye Cream has definitely reduced my dark circles, which makes me oh-so-happy!

I must mention that I have used several eye creams and home remedies in the past but this has been the most effective. Even though my dark circles are not completely gone, they are lighter for sure, and that is progress! Maybe if I continue to use it for a few more months, they will improve further.

So, here’s my final take on L’Oreal White Perfect Magic White Double Brightening Eye Cream.

Pros:

  • Nice packaging which prevents wastage.
  • Little quantity required to cover both under-eye regions and eyelids even.
  • Leaves no white residue and absorbs quickly.
  • Instantly brightens eye area and softens it too.
  • Has reduced my dark circles with a month of application.

Cons:

  • Quantity is slightly less for the price (but since it is effective, I don’t mind too much).

My Winter Skin Care Must Haves

It’s winter time and the festive season’s here too! You know exactly how stressed your skin is – the harsh, chilly weather and lots of product usage for all those parties – no wonder it needs some extra care. Here are some tips on what you can do to ensure your skin doesn’t suffer and remains fresh, supple and glowing.

For all those who asked my winter skin care routine. I have added a picture of all the products I have been using to me and my skin happy this winter.

Winter-Skin-Care-Routine

‘Tis The Season To Be Jolly But Do Follow These Winter Skin Care Tips

Make Moisturizer Your Best Bud

Seriously! Your moisturizer is your best friend in these chilly times. Moisturize your face and body every day to prevent dryness and itchy/flaky skin. If you have naturally dry skin, go in for creamy body butters and oil-based face creams. Otherwise, you can stick to body milks and water/gel based products, but make sure to slather on generous amounts on application.

Forget Me Not, Says Your Sun-Block

Just because the sun isn’t shinning as brightly as you’d like, you can’t take the liberty of skipping your sunscreen when going out. The sun’s rays are still as damaging and potent, even if not as warming as usually they are. So make sure you apply skin products with SPF as a rule, be it your day cream, foundation, lip balm or anything else.

Treat Your Tresses to Nourishing Oils

Oiling your hair is a must in the winter months. Like facial skin and the body, the scalp gets dry too, which can lead to brittle, lifeless hair and flaky scalp condition too. Oil your hair before every wash and if your scalp is excessively dry, indulge in some hot oil therapy which is sure to give even better results.

Protect Your Pout

Keep a lip balm handy at all times. Make sure you have one in your handbag, one by your bedside and an emergency chapstick stashed somewhere too. Also, put on lipsticks/gloss that have a hydrating effect or apply balm before putting on matte shades. And make sure you do not lick your lips if they get dry; this will only make them drier and more chapped.

Don’t Let the Lazy Bugs Bite

It is very natural to get lazy about skin care during winters, but do not skip your nightly regime at any cost! Remove your makeup, complete the CTM routine and only then go to bed! This will ensure that all the late nights and partying don’t show on your face the next day for sure.

BodyShop Dry Oil – Brazil Nut Review

To all the gorgeous divas out there, I’m sharing a little titbit from my treasure trove of beauty secrets – my personal mantra for supple, hydrated and glowing skin! I’m reviewing my favourite go-to product here; it really comes in handy especially in these harsh winter months.

BodyShop-BrazilNut-Dry-Oil

It is the Body Shop Dry Oil from the Brazil Nut range that I’m talking about here. A dry oil is basically one that guarantees quick absorption, ensuring there is no stickiness or heaviness felt post application. As a matter of fact, there are not too many dry oils out there in the market. But the Body Shop Dry Oil is really effective and anyone looking for such a product would do good to try it.

This oil can be used on the face, body and hair. I mostly use it on my body though every once in a while, oil my hair with it too. When used on the body, it gives a lovely sheen and immediately hydrates dry skin. True to the company’s claims, it settles into the skin in a few seconds, without feeling heavy or greasy. So I generally use it lavishly in during winters, more so, because ordinary moisturizers feel cold on application when temperatures drop low. Using this not just nourishes my skin but also makes me feel nice and warm!

The best part about this Brazil Nut Dry Oil is its lovely fragrance – I just love it! There are other fragrances in this range including Coconut, Mango, Cocoa Butter and Strawberry, but this is my favourite. Those preferring more fruity fragrances should go in for the Mango or Strawberry variant but I like sweet, warm odours and thus always pick up the Brazil Nut Dry Oil.

I have been using this product for the past 3 to 4 years now and am completely satisfied with it. I will surely be purchasing it again, as and when it runs out.

AA Skincare’s new Frankincense & Rose Deep Cleansing Face Mask – Review

I believe in taking care of my skin in winters a lot more than summers for there is much room for its improvement then. Summers are spent in ensuring sun protection, managing oil and sweat and other such issues. During winters, however, I can focus on rejuvenation and hydration, which is great.

Amphora-Aromatics-Frankincense-Rose-Clay-Mask-1

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will have realized that I am a stickler for perfection when it comes to products I use. I like and hope that when I try a product, it surpasses all my expectations, and more often than not, I’m not easy to please! So I was pleasantly surprised that from the moment I opened the jar of Frankincense & Rose Deep Cleansing Face Mask, I fell in love with it! And then, all through the day, the only thing I could think of was when I would open that heavenly bottle of face mask again to apply onto my face in the evening.

I cannot explain how good the product smells – like the blissful aroma of a jar full of roses. But you’re probably wondering, is it really effective on the skin as well? Read on to find out!

I have to admit before I continue though that I very rarely approve of face masks. Hence, I tend go for the ones which are less harsh and chemical-ridden, and more natural in composition. I don’t believe in treating my skin to strong, synthetic ingredients for short term goals. Therefore, since I have dry skin, I tend to use more nourishing face masks and only about once a week. Typically, I go in for a clay face mask to rejuvenate and condition it. Clay, with its firming and smoothing qualities, is perfect for dry and mature skin.

Amphora-Aromatics-Frankincense-Rose-Clay-Mask

Coming back to the Frankincense & Rose Deep Cleansing Face Mask, this was my experience with it: after smoothing it onto my face and neck, I left it on for five to ten minutes. I then first rinsed it off with warm water and followed by splashing my face with cold water for closing pores. And when I looked in the mirror – wow! my skin looked so fresh and clean!

I realized that I can easily create a spa experience at home with a weekly beauty-boosting facial to restore the skin, followed by this amazing Frankincense & Rose Deep Cleansing Face Mask.  Perfect for winter-worn complexion, this easy-to-use clay mask is made from pure essential oils. It is also naturally enriched with vitamins and minerals to draw out impurities as well as moisturise and tone the skin. Packed with loads of wonderful ingredients, it is not surprising how effective it is. For instance, it contains Palmarosa essential oil to promote healthy cell growth and repair damaged skin. Marula essential oil is also present, which has antioxidant properties and helps protect skin from environmental damage.   Also in the mix are Dead Sea salts and Rose Geranium, all of which detoxify, soften and hydrate skin. So, it is not just frankincense and rose that work their magic – this mask uses many more natural ingredients to brighten the face. I really enjoyed using it!

So, here’s a quick summary of my take on this product:

Pros:

  • It is free from parabens and artificial fragrances.
  • Smells wonderful.
  • Constituted of numerous nourishing natural oils.
  • Has a cleansing and tightening effect on the skin.
  • Really good for oily skin and treating open pores.

Cons:

  • Can be drying for dry skin, so I limit the use to once a week

Cost: A 100ml pot costs just £7.94.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation Review – Swatch 40 Beige

Hello Ladies!

Today I’m reviewing Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua – Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15, which I have been using frequently these past few weeks. I’m half way through the bottle and I absolutely love the product!

Chanel-VitaLumiere-Foundation-40-Beige

Before I give you all my take on it, here’s what Chanel says about it:

Vita Lumiere Aqua is the most surprising of all Chanel Foundations as it is soft, light and aqueous in texture for an amazingly even makeup result that glows with natural radiance. An unprecedented sensorial experience and an unrivalled makeup finish: freedom for all women in search of a delightful foundation that respects their skin and reveals their natural beauty.

I can’t say I disagree with the claims made by this leading fashion brand – Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua truly does provide “an unrivalled makeup finish”!

Chanel-VitaLumiere-Foundation-40-Beige-1

There are several things about this foundation that I really like.

First and foremost, the bottle is plastic and tiny as compared to some brands which package their cosmetics in heavy glass bottles; beware ladies, fancy as that may be, it’s just a gimmick – you feel you are paying more for larger quantity but in actuality, you still end up with the same 30 ml of product. At least Chanel is keeping it real! Also, the lightweight, unpretentious packing makes it ideal to carry on vacations or to parties – it is neither bulky nor takes up too much space.

In terms of application, the foundation has a very fluid texture and you need to shake the bottle so that it is properly mixed when used. But this silky texture makes it very light on the skin and easy to blend as well. After sitting on the skin for a few minutes, it merges with my skin-tone absolutely effortlessly. The finish is even and it really doesn’t look like I am wearing makeup though all the flaws I generally struggle to hide are completely invisible. In fact, I tend to apply Concealer very sparingly while using this particular foundation for mostly, there is no need. The foundation also has some high-def light pigments which are an exclusive Chanel concoction – they add a radiant glow to my skin which is seriously difficult to achieve if one is not a professional makeup artist.
1-Chanel-VitaLumiere-Foundation-Swatch

The added bonus is the smell! I have always loved the typical Chanel fragrance which is common to all their products; I’m glad this foundation smells the same! To top it all, the fact that it has SPF too, makes Vitalumiere Aqua a must-have product for me. And I usually don’t like wearing makeup all day but with this foundation, my mind is at peace; it nourishes the skin as opposed to ruining it. This can be attributed to the lotus water and brown seaweed extract it is composed of, which help restore the skin’s vitality. Moreover, the mineral sunscreen fortifies it against the sun’s harmful rays. With all that it has to offer, what more could one ask for?

Here is a picture of me wearing Chanel VitaLumiere Aqua Foundation:

Christmas Makeup

So, here’s my quick analysis of Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua – Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15.

Pros:

  • Gives complexion an even finish.
  • Hides blemishes and marks for a flawless look.
  • Offers sun protection – SPF 15.
  • Provides a natural-looking glow.
  • Has a light reflecting effect which adds luminosity to the skin.

Cons:

  • It is expensive.
  • Limited shades are available, I am lucky to have found a match for my skin tone.
  • Is an alcohol-based product which can have a drying effect.

Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Review

Hello Ladies!

Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Review

Today’s post is about a hair product that I bought with a lot of expectations. I had my eye on Kerastase’s Elixir Ultime Oil for a while but never ended up buying it. But this time around when my after-wash leave-in serum got over, I made a beeline for this product hoping it would do my hair good.

So, this Elixir Oil is actually a multi-purpose product which, according to the brand, can be used as a pre-wash product, leave-in serum or pre/post styling oil. I tried using it for all these purposes and my take on it is somewhat different from these claims.

Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil is best for usage as a hair serum, especially during the summer months. It has a nice texture, is fairly light on the hair and tends to give it a subtle shine. But do not expect any extraordinary wonders from it. If you use a lot of it, it can weigh the hair down. So I am very careful of not putting on more than 2 pumps in one go.

I also used it as a pre-wash oil for nourishment and it produced decent results. I think it is well-suited for dry and brittle hair, for it tends to moisturize and strengthen when used for regular oiling. It is also good to use as a protective product for heat exposure. I use it quite often while straightening or blow-drying my hair.

One place this product disappointed me was when I tried to use it while styling my hair. Be it simply curling my hair or trying to glam-up a fancy updo, Elixir Ultime was utterly unhelpful. It did not control frizz and fly-aways and nor did it add a smooth, shiny finish to my styling.

So, my final take on the Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil is that it is neither absolutely amazing, nor a complete waste of money. I have to say though, it does not come cheap for sure and there are many less expensive options in the market that produce the same result. I know that given the brand, it is naturally more expensive than other similar products. But since it doesn’t deliver what is promised despite its price, I probably wouldn’t buy it again. There are many other hair products on my bucket list that I will try instead!

5 Tips for Applying False Eyelashes like a Pro

5 tips for applying false eyelashes

If there has been one major change to my makeup and beauty routine this year, it has been the addition of false lashes to my must-have items. Once I had tried them and experienced the magic first-hand, I was sold for life. Having said that, false lashes can be really tricky to apply, especially if you are a newbie or if you have an unsteady hand. Over the course of the year, I have experimented with many hacks and tricks to find the perfect way to apply falsies. Ladies, I present to you: 5 tips for applying false eyelashes like a pro!

1. There are so many different styles of false eyelashes available in the market that choosing the right pair can be really difficult! As a rule of thumb, if you want a cute, baby doll look, opt for eyelashes that are longer in the middle. If you want a sultry and sexy look, choose falsies that are longer towards the outer end of your eye.

2. Cut the eyelash strips into halves or thirds for easier and effective application. Before you apply them to your lids, wrap the lash around a thin makeup brush for some extra curl. When you are applying the individual pieces of the eyelash strip, make sure that the glue is very sticky before you pop them on. Waiting for the glue to get the right amount of sticky is absolutely critical!

3. For a more natural look, try individual lashes instead of strips. While they might take a tiny bit longer to apply, they are actually easier to apply than the strips and you can customize your look to suit the occasion. You can use a few individual lashes for a subtle look or build up the drama on the outer edge of your lid by using more. I would recommend using tweezers to apply these babies.

4. An oily base makes it really hard for the eyelash glue to work, so blot off any extra oil on your lids before you start to apply your lashes. If you plan on reusing your lashes, the last thing you want to do is remove your eye makeup with an oil-based remover – no, no, no!

5. Find the right position to apply your falsies. Like most ladies, I started by trying to apply eyelashes in front of my bathroom mirror, which was just a no-go. Through much practice, I realise that the best way to get the perfect application is lay a mirror on a flat surface (like a table) and plant your elbows on either side of it. Then, you can look down into the mirror and you will see exactly where you need to apply your falsies. Trust me!

Above all, have fun with false lashes and play around with different styles until you find what works for you. If you find them too bothersome to where everyday, you could even consider getting eyelash extensions. I just got mine and I am absolutely in love with them!

Top Tips on How to Follow a Diet without Cheating

A lot of us would have weight loss as a New Year Resolution and my post today is dedicated to helping those who have weight loss or diet plan in theirs.

Anyone who has ever attempted diet control will vouch for this – food can test your resolve like nothing else! It seems that the very day you decide to watch what you eat, everything seems more palatable, more fragrant, more enticing! So unfair! I have always struggled to keep my weight in check and it takes a lot of resolve and hardwork for me to stay fit, I know I will never be skinny.

Diet-to-Loose-Weight
And I know if you are following a diet, the challenge is even tougher and I know this because I have done this many times . You have a strict regimen to stick to as well, alongside resisting the temptation of your favourite treats. So here are some tips and tricks that will keep you on track and ensure you don’t cheat too much.

  1. Store no snacks. Most dieters gorge on their favourite snacks in their moments of weakness. If you have nice treats close at hand when you’re craving something delicious, you are more likely to give into the impulse. So eliminate the temptation all together and store no snacks at home. If you do decide to cheat a little, store healthy alternatives like low-sugar products, low-fat ice-cream, etc.
  1. Make a Vision Board. As silly as it may seem, having a Vision Board helps. Pen down your fitness goals and put up a chart where you will see it regularly. This way, whenever you’re feeling weak, have a look at it, remind yourself why you must be strong and keep going. A good idea would be to have a picture of your dream body on it – it will keep your motivation levels up
  1. Incorporate a cheat meal in your diet. For any diet to be sustainable and successful, there needs to be some respite from the constant self-policing. So slate one particular meal as your “Cheat Meal” for the week. But make sure you stick to your schedule and don’t eat a cheat meal whenever you feel like. Stick to a daytime meal on a particular day – Sunday maybe – and do not binge otherwise.
  1. Track your progress. Many dieters avoid stepping on to the weighing scale in fear of not seeing any progress and losing motivation. But it can also be very encouraging if you do see results so weigh yourself every week. Even if you don’t see significant results, use this as inspiration and discouragement to try harder.
  1. Download an application. Technology can be your ally in staying true to your diet. Get a mobile application that tracks your food intake and calories. This will make you conscious of every morsel you consume, and help you keep track of your daily nutrition. You can even share your progress and diet with your friends, making all this fun rather than frustrating.

The bottom line is, you have to work on staying motivated more than anything else. Add more positive reiterations of the benefits you reap from watching what you eat. Do not focus of what you’re missing out on – focus on your fitness dream instead!

Five Simple Steps to Better Skin

Skin

We all want better skin, but the problem is that achieving it seems to be becoming increasingly complicated. The fact is, though, is that it really doesn’t have to be so confusing. Bettering your skin comes down to five simple steps. We all know them, but sometimes we just need reminding.

1. Drink

Drinking enough water is the first rule to having healthy skin. Not only does water help to keep you hydrated, but it’s great for your metabolism, too. Make sure that you’re not substituting your water intake for caffeinated drinks, though, as the caffeine content is dehydrating and pretty much counteracts any goodness you’re getting from the water. Herbal teas are fine, though, as they are caffeine-free.

 2. Eat

Eating clean is crucial when it comes to achieving clear, healthy skin. Processed foods containing high levels of refined sugar and salt can be just as bad for your skin as forgetting to moisturise. Get rid of those nasty processed items and restock your fridge with lots of fresh fruit, veg and meat. When it comes to condiments such as mayonnaise, it’s always better to make your own so you know exactly what’s going into it. The same goes for baking.

3. Sleep

It sounds simply, but we lead such busy and stressful lives that sleep actually moves further and further down our list of priorities. Every adult needs 7-8 hours of proper, quality sleep every night. Set an alarm for half an hour before you need to be in bed, and start your bedtime routine then. Try to avoid screens for the last hour before you go to bed, and make sure you don’t eat too close to your bedtime.

 4. Sweat

Sweating is not only good for your body since it usually comes hand-in-hand with a workout, but sweating is actually really good for the skin in itself. It opens the pores, drawing out and releasing all the dirt and grime in the skin, also releasing all those toxins. Just make sure you wash your face after a workout, though, as the residue will otherwise just sit on the surface of your skin and seep back in over time.

 5. Work

Working out your whole body is great for your skin, but you can also work out your face itself. We often end up neglecting the hundreds of muscles in our face, which can result in headaches, poor circulation and even an increase in wrinkling. Working out the face increases the blood flow to the skin, making it appear more radiant and keeping the skin fresh and healthy. Relaxing all of those muscles will also keep you looking younger and relieving any tension you hold in the face.

5 Healthy Food Substitutions for Better Hair and Skin

Food sub for healhy hair and skin

One of the easiest ways to embark on your journey to healthy living is to substitute unhealthy food items for healthy options that serve the same purpose. Not only does this technique ensure long-term wellness; it also has multiple benefits for your weight, hair, skin and nails. Wedding season is right around the corner and every one of us wants our hair and skin to be looking their very best – these five food substitutions are the way to go!

Glowing skin: avocado puree instead of butter in baking

Though both these fats are quite different in nature, they have pretty much the same consistency and work the same way when it comes to baking. Plus, the subtle taste of the avocado works really well in chocolate bakes like brownies and cakes! Avocado is loaded with antioxidants that help in repairing damaged skin and protecting it from the harmful rays of the sun. Lots of antioxidants also create a gorgeous glow, unlike anything that a bronzer can give you!

Healthy hair: cacao nibs instead of chocolate chips

Cacao nibs are loaded with protein, vitamins, minerals and all that good stuff! Needless to say, they have multiple benefits for your health and skin, but did you know that they work wonders on your hair, too? That’s right! The most important hair benefit is that cacao increases the blood circulation in your scalp, which promotes hair growth and makes your tresses shiny and lustrous. On the flipside, it also minimizes the chances of hair fall. Win-win!

Softer skin: quinoa instead of oatmeal

Quinoa is a grain seed that is really, really good for you, which is why this super food has sprung into the limelight this year. It works as a really good substitute for oatmeal – just cook it with milk and add a dash of cinnamon. Quinoa is loaded with riboflavin, a vitamin that helps in restoring elasticity in your skin, making it soft and supple. It also prevents fine lines and wrinkles from developing prematurely.

Hair growth: chia seeds instead of cornflakes

Chia seeds are another type of super food that are loaded with protein and a host of other health benefits! Not only do they taste absolutely amazing when soaked in almond milk – they are also much healthier than your usual bowl of cornflakes, and they keep you full for longer, so your snacking tends to reduce. More importantly, chia seeds are made up of a lot of protein, which helps in restoring damaged hair, encourages hair growth and strengthens weak tresses. After all, our hair is primarily made up of protein, too.

Revitalised skin: lettuce instead of regular tortilla wraps

Apart from the huge number of calories that you are saving on, lettuce also works miracles on the skin. It can do a lot of things – fight acne, remove toxins, protect your skin from UV rays and give your skin cells the nutrition they need. Additionally, lettuce is great for revitalising damaged or tired skin because of its high vitamin A content. Give it a shot and say hello to healthier skin!

5 Helpful Makeup Tips for Oily Skin

Oily skin can be quite a bother to many women, because in addition to leaving you prone to common blemishes, it can also make it a lot harder to apply makeup. Nevertheless, following a systematic and well planned skin care routine can eliminate some of these common problems. Oily skin often causes clogged pores, acne and other skin blemishes, making skin maintenance and routines all the more important.

5-steps-for-contouring-your-face-with-makeup-

A common challenge with makeup for oily skin is to make it last longer and to avoid a patchy look. It is therefore not to only important to mask the blemishes but to control oil levels. Take a look at these useful makeup tips for oily skin. Also, check out 75+ expert makeup tips at www.rewardme.in.

  1. Begin by Cleansing

Be sure to rid your skin of any impurities or dirt particles before you begin applying makeup. Cleaning your face before applying makeup helps ensure that the makeup does not mix with excess oils from your skin. However, for oily skin, simply washing is often not enough, so use a toner for some extra cleansing.

  1. Use Matte for Long-Lasting Look

With oily skin, there is a high risk of makeup wearing off or melting away. Applying a matte base layer for your makeup will lower the risk of it blending with skin oils. To ensure that your makeup remains unspoilt for a longer period apply a solution of matte foundation and powder.

  1. Spread it Evenly with a Sponge

Some parts of your face may have higher levels of oil than others, which may end up making your makeup appear blotchy and uneven. Use a good quality makeup sponge to gently dab your makeup on so that it is spread more evenly across your face.

  1. Control Shine with Blotting Papers

Oily skin usually causes certain areas such as the nose, cheeks and forehead to shine. This unwanted effect often takes away from your appearance. Carry blotting papers to swab away the sweat and oils without ruining your makeup.

  1. Oil-Free Products

It is important to be watchful while picking out cosmetics and beauty products. Make sure that the products you use are oil-free so that you do not add to the existing high levels of oil in your skin. Also, as oily skin tends to be sensitive, avoid using products with harsh chemical contents.

Along with these tips, it is also important to know how to apply makeup for oily skin to get the best effect. Common makeup steps for oily skin include starting with a primer or concealer to set an even base, following it with foundation and blush. Remember to gently pat the makeup instead of spreading it on.

With these daily makeup tips for oily skin, you need not worry about that unwanted oily shine playing spoilsport. You can get a perfect and long-lasting look for every occasion!

5 Makeup Tips For Flawless Photographs

5 Makeup Tips For Flawless Photographs

Wedding season is right around the corner and you know what that means – tons and tons of photo opportunities! However, it is important to remember that just because your makeup looks flawless in your bathroom mirror, it may not turn out the same way in photographs. Unfortunately, many women learn this ugly truth the hard way. To prepare for paparazzi moments in the months to follow (and avoid any unwanted surprises), learn these five makeup tips by heart and follow them like Holy Grail.

Never Skip Your Primer

I know many ladies who don’t wear primer on a daily basis and hey, that’s A-okay, but when you want to look your very best and you know that cameras will be around, primer is your best friend. This magical product should be the first step in your beauty routine after your moisturize your face and before you begin your base makeup. In a nutshell, primer evens out the tone and texture of your skin, so that your foundation just glides on and sets in an impeccably smooth finish. You can even find primers with a slight shimmer, which work really well to create some extra glow for the cameras.

Apply Your Makeup In Natural Light

It might be hard to find a good source of natural light wherever you are, but try to find a space that gets as close to it as possible. More often than not, artificial light tends to change the way you see your skin colour, resulting in under or over application of makeup. Natural light will give you a more realistic idea of how your makeup actually looks and how it will appear in photographs.

Blend Your Concealer Well

Again, on a daily basis, most of us just tend to dab our concealer below our eye and lightly blend it to cover the dark circles. But if concealer is not blended in properly, it can look a little out of place and even highlight fine lines and wrinkles rather than cover them up, especially in high definition, professional photographs. Take the time to blend your concealer into the rest of your makeup properly, even if it takes a couple of extra minutes, because this will make a world of difference to your look.

Choose Dark and Matte Over Light and Shimmer

When it comes to choosing the right makeup for photographs, dark shades with a matte finish are definitely the way to go. While the subtle sparkle in shimmery shades looks beautiful in real life, it tends to reflect light right onto your face and make you look oily in photographs. Matte shades are great because they are flat, so they appear as they are. Additionally, light and pastel shades don’t really appear strongly in photographs, so dark and deep hues are always a much better choice if you want your eye makeup to be seen. If you want to play it safe, shades of brown and gold always work well.

Blush Is Essential

Again, while your face might look healthy in real life, it will look completely washed out in photographs if you do not apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Even a light shade can make all the difference and give your skin the lovely flush it needs to glow in photographs. Trust me!

An Easy Routine For Great Eyebrows – Daily Tips

An Easy Routine For Fierce Eyebrows

Every woman was not born with thick and shapely eyebrows, but every woman can have them if she wants. And why wouldn’t she?! While eyebrows have not received as much attention as they deserve until very recently, I firmly believe that they can make or break your look. It might look complicated but do not fret – all you need is ten minutes and a little bit of patience.

Start with eyebrows that have been shaped the way you like them. You can thread, wax of tweeze, depending on how much hair you want to remove and your tolerance for pain. I prefer to thread my eyebrows, because gives me more control over the shape that I want to create and the resulting finish is very clean.

You should always make sure that your eyebrows are dry and clean before you begin to fill them in. For starters, grab a fresh spoolie brush and brush the hairs of your eyebrows upward so that you can identify the uneven spots that may need some more attention than others. Now, use an eyebrow pencil that is one shade lighter than your natural brow colour to fill in your brows using short and light strokes that look like the natural brow hairs. Keep your hand as light as possible to achieve a natural look. At this stage, the “filling in” should not be very evident. The mistake that many women make is picking a shade that matches their natural brow colour exactly. This makes the eyebrows look very stark – and not in a good way! A pencil that is one or two shades lighter is definitely the way to go.

Next, grab a pressed powder in the same colour as the pencil. It’s time for some extra definition! Use an angled brush to create a sharper shape for your brows, but avoid making the ends to pointy. Make sure to dust off any excess powder from the brush before applying, so that you don’t end up over-filling. Again, delicate strokes are key. Now, grab the spoolie again and brush your brows to blend the pencil and powder perfectly. If you are happy with the look, proceed to the next step. If not, blend, blend, blend!

To set the look in place and make sure that your brows stay fabulous all day long, use a clear eyebrow gel. Again, ensure that you dust off any excess product to avoid a crusty and crispy finish. Finally, dust a little bit of loose powder around your eyebrows to complete the look. If you still crave some more definition, you can blend a bit of concealer around them to get the shape that you desire. Add a tinge of highlighter below your brow bone for a beautiful glow and you are good to go, girl!

3 Effective Dry Skin Remedies for Winter

Sponsored Post

After the scorching post-monsoon heat of October, winter is truly a pleasant respite. Unfortunately, the cold weather also brings some rather unwelcome conditions with it, one of which is dry skin. The drop in humidity levels at this time of the year can leave your skin dehydrated and devoid of essential oils.

an-experts-guide-to-winter-skin-care-1-1-size-3

The skin on your face, hands and legs is most exposed to the elements, and it also happens to be most sensitive. This makes it more susceptible to dehydration and dryness. Dry skin care in winter is obviously of the utmost importance, not just your face, but for your entire body. Check out expert skin care tips at www.rewardme.in. Although, the markets are flooded dry skin care products, most of these contain harsh chemicals that can produce mild to severe side-effects. On the other hand, organic or home-made skin care products are not only safer, but also more affordable.

Here are a few simple, yet effective home remedies for dry skin to protect your skin this winter.
1. Olive Oil & Sugar Scrub
Dryness is often accompanied by dead skin cells that form a rough layer over the skin. So not only do you need to moisturise your skin, you also need to get rid of the dead cells. An olive oil and sugar scrub is a great solution to both problems. While the olive oil returns moisture, scrubbing the sugar particles cleanses the skin and improves blood circulation.
Add about 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil to half a cup of granulated white sugar, and mix the solution well. Apply it to the affected skin and give it a minute’s time to settle. After this, use cold water to rinse it off, with firm but gentle motions.

2. Oatmeal Honey Mask
Oatmeal is not just a nourishing breakfast, but it is also great for your skin, when used as a topical application. Drying of the skin causes roughening of the skin and the appearance of scaly patches. Combine oatmeal and honey for a homemade exfoliating mask for your skin.
Grind about 2-3 tablespoons of oats to form a fine but slightly coarse powder. Add a tablespoon of hot water and mix well; leave it to cool down. Add a tablespoon of pure honey and mix thoroughly until completely blended. Apply the mixture evenly on your skin and leave it on for about 15-20 minutes before rinsing it off.

3. Aloe Vera Gel
The healing properties of aloe vera are well researched and it helps treat a variety of skin conditions. Aloe Vera gel is a great dry skin care solution as it moisturises the skin and also soothes it. Simply slice a fresh piece of aloe leaf and extract the gel. Massage it on your skin and wash it after half an hour.
These handy tips for dry skin treatment are certainly helpful, but as they say, prevention is better than cure. A simple daily measure like applying moisturiser after bathing is a great way of ensuring dry skin care in winter. So, use these remedies, and don’t let your skin suffer this winter.

3 Cute Hairstyles For Wedding Season

Bridal Hair Styles

Wedding season is right around the corner and I firmly believe that when it comes to matrimonial functions, you should leave no stone unturned. I love to experiment with and learn new hairstyles in the run up to weddings, so that every element of my look is unique. This season, a couple of my friends and cousins are getting married, so I have been on the hunt for some cute hairstyles that will set me apart from the rest of the attendees. Ladies, I present to you: three cute hairstyles to sport this wedding season…or for any major event, really.

Slicked Back

When I saw this sexy hairstyle on Khloe Kardashian earlier this year, I was simply blown away and knew that I had to try it. It screams “power woman” and would look absolutely amazing with a gorgeous gown for a night-time cocktail affair. Start by using a texturizing spray in your mane. Next, use a boar bristle brush to blow dry your hair upward from the roots at the crown. This will create the volume that is so important for this style. After this, blow dry the sides backward and pin them back, whilst keeping the volume at the top. At this stage, it is a good idea to straighten the rest of your hair (with the pins in place) to achieve the perfect sleek finish. Now, gently smooth the top back with a fine-tooth comb, shaping your hair until you have the amount of height you want. Finish off your look with a texture paste to shape the look and a final spritz of strong-hold spray.

Milkmaid Braid

I have been lusting over this flirty hairstyle for a while now, but it is only recently that I learned how to do it. I can totally imagine sporting this for a daytime mehendi function with glamorous jhumka earrings to finish the look. You should start this hairdo by brushing your hair to remove any tangles, because they might mess up your braids. Part your hair evenly in the middle and then plait each side in the Dutch braid style, securing it at the end with a thin hair elastic. Spritz both braids with hairspray to tuck in any loose hairs. Now, place one braid across your head (like you would wear a headband) and pin it in place. Do the same with the second one and secure the end under the first braid. Use hairspray to tidy up the look and voila!

Ballerina Bun

This bun is a classic one that will never go out of style. You can sport this for both Indian and Western weddings as it exudes an easy sophistication. Start with brushing out your hair to remove any tangles and then pull your hair back into a ponytail, using a comb to remove any bumps. Secure this with a thin hair elastic. Now, separate your ponytail into two even sections. Take the first and twist the section tightly. After this, wrap the twist around the base of your ponytail (not over it) as many times as possible and then secure the end with pins. Repeat with the second section, and finish off the look with a strong-hold hairspray. If you are going for a desi wedding, you could even add an embellished hair stick to the bun for some fun!

My Experience with Microdermaberasion (MDA) & LED Facial

Hello Ladies!

This post is inspired by my recent visit to a skin salon (Spa Beauty Coventry), where I pampered myself with a session of Microdermabrasion (MDA), followed by an LED Facial. Unless you are aware of what exactly an microdermaberasion or LED facial is, you might wonder about how these serious-sounding procedures could qualify as “pampering”. Well, you can read on and find out what these skin treatments are all about – maybe soon, you’ll also be lavishing your skin with MDAs and LEDs as well!

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a method of superficial exfoliation that helps remove dead and damaged cells from the surface of the skin. Far more intensive a skin therapy than your over-the-counter exfoliation products, Microdermaberasion are performed using a small cleaning tool, that has vacuum-cleaner-like suction power. The cleaning tool is used to vacuum fine crystals across the skin, often with other therapeutic agents being infused alongside as well. Based on the kind of effect you are hoping to achieve, you can either go in for a basic microdermaberasion to treat worn out skin or get more advanced microdermaberasion for moisturization or acne-control purposes.

What are the skin benefits of Microdermaberasion?

MDAs are usually recommended to be performed 4 – 5 times in a period of 2 – 4 weeks, depending upon one’s skin quality. However, you may go in for single sessions at your own convenience as well. Based on how frequently you go in for an microdermaberasion, you can expect to incur these skin benefits over a period of time:

  • Smoother skin which feels supple and refreshed.
  • Cleansing and unclogging of facial pores.
  • Instantaneous glow on the treated areas.

Generally, even with just one session, there is visible improvement in one’s skin texture and quality.

Some Things to Keep in Mind

Forewarned is forearmed, ladies! Here are some things you need to know before you drop in for an MDA.

  • A microdermaberasion cannot remove deeper wrinkles, lines or excessive sun damage.
  • It can cause skin inflammation and irritation, but only if the microdermaberasion is too aggressive on sensitive skin.
  • While it is being performed, you’ll feel a slight sensation of your skin being tugged or pulled (due to the suction) – that is normal, as long as you are not heavily discomforted by it.
  • Sometimes, microdermaberasions are paired with LED facials for achieving better results, and specifically, a clearer complexion.

Thus, we move on to LED facials and what they can do for you.

What is an LED Facial?

An LED facial is a procedure which uses laser-based photorejuvenation to improve skin in varied ways. It helps with acne, fine lines, pigmentation, sun damage and scarring, making it an ideal therapy for just about anyone. During an LED facial, one’s face is exposed to different coloured laser lights, each having a different therapeutic effect on the skin. The skin technician will determine the duration of exposure to each light, based on a prior inspection of your skin and the effect you are looking to achieve. A high frequency tool is then used to remove bacteria, usually followed by the application of a soothing mask on the skin.

What are the Skin Benefits of LED Facials?

Depending upon the nature and severity of skin damage, LED facials are recommended with a frequency of 4 – 8 sessions in a period of 4 – 8 weeks. However, most people claim of having seen the following positive results with the very first session

  • Diminished fine lines and lighter age spots.
  • More glowing and supple skin, that feels fresh and hydrated.
  • Lightened scars and acne marks.

Advanced LED facials may have more targeted effects on the skin, so you may go in for a specialized facial to treat a particular skin condition.

Some Things to Keep in Mind

Before going in for an LED facial, make sure you got your facts right and expectations in check. Here are some things you should know:

  • There are extremely few recorded instances of adverse skin reaction to LED facial treatment.
  • During the procedure, targeted skin begins to feel warm – this is normal.
  • Some types of skin are more sensitive and the procedure may cause mild discomfort when going on; very mild stinging is not something to worry about.

Well, these are facts, but what about personal experiences, you ask? I can give you some details on how I feel about microdermaberasion and LED facials.

My Experience

I went in for a microdermaberasion, followed by an LED facial because I have just returned from a vacation and my skin needed it. Tan removal and skin brightening were my main concerns and I was positive that an microdermaberasion was the way to go; I have got this done in the past and it removed tanning effectively with minimal downtime. It had produced dry patches on my skin once, but with adequate moisturization, it is no problem at all! My skin felt clean and healthy after the microdermaberasion and the LED facial only added to the glow. In fact, even several days after getting it done, I can see the effects – my skin is brighter and glowing, which makes me very happy! I have added some pictures to show what the whole process is like. Hope you are now well-informed about these wonderful skin treatments.

If you have any questions about the procedure feel free to ask, I will be happy to answer them from my personal experience
