5 Ways To Pull Off The Off-Shoulder Trend

If you’ve kept up with the latest posts from top fashion bloggers and the Spring/Summer runway trends, you’d notice that off-shoulder silhouettes are huge. From peasant blouses to boho dresses, this trend is being implemented with a wide range of wardrobe pieces. Off-shoulders let you stay cool and comfy during the warm summer months, so it’s the ideal trend to try right now. As easy as it may seem to pull off this look, you can still go wrong. Take a look at some of these tips to guide you and help you perfect the look:

Wear it as a classy evening look – The off-shoulder trend can be teamed up with evening wear for a polished and stylish look. Maybe you could wear a tight-fitting piece with a flouncy skirt courtesy of the fifties. Classic pumps will complete this outfit. You can also wear a bodycon off-shoulder cocktail dress with a statement necklace that will flatter your neckline. Graphic patterns and bold prints may look great, but opt for solids and neutrals if you’re looking for an investment piece.Off-shoulder-1

Wear it with overalls for a casual look – An off-shoulder peasant blouse looks perfect for a casual outfit. To keep up with the latest trends, pair it with overalls which have made a huge comeback. Mix it all up by wearing a Romanian-print blouse with distressed denim overalls and complete the look with pointed-toe skimmers. The distressed overalls will balance out the feminine and delicate features of the blouse and shoes.Off-shoulder-2Source: Around Lucia

For a casual chic look, wear the blouse with fitted overalls and heeled mules. A quirky graphic handbag will be perfect for adding some flair to the outfit. Otherwise, you could ditch the heels for comfortable shoes like classic white sneakers or patent leather oxfords.

Wear a cropped piece with formal separates – With cropped tops being another huge trend, you can infuse both trends together by wearing a cropped off-shoulder top. Create a polished look by pairing this top with formal separates like a midi skirt or a pair of wide-leg trousers. Culottes are also an excellent choice, which are both trendy and classy.Off-shoulder-3Source: Become chic

If you’re wearing it with midi skirts, you can either go for a layered one or a narrow pencil cut. Pull together this entire look with a pair of subdued metallic pumps. As for the wide-leg trousers, opt for strappy stilettos or heeled mules in bold solid colors.

Create a boho chic look – Nothing says boho like peasant tops, so an off-shoulder peasant top is perfect for channeling the boho chic look. Opt for pieces in lace or other lightweight materials to pull off the look. Unless you’re planning to wear it as a seventies hippie Halloween costume, avoid wearing the top with a maxi skirt. Maybe you could pair it with denim shorts instead.Off-shoulder-4Source: Where to Get It

Otherwise, get an off-shoulder boho dress that will work great with anything. You could either dress this up with stilettos or dress it down with trainers. High-rise gladiator sandals may also be a good choice for dressing down this look. Open-toe booties may be perfect for the edgy rocker chic look with elements of boho style.

Wear an off-shoulder dress as a beach cover-up – If you’re looking forward to a lazy day at the beach, why not do it in style? Instead of your usual kaftan or sarong, use a summery off-shoulder dress as a cover-up for your swimwear. Look for something that has embellishments in macramé or lace to make this look work. Don’t forget a pair of colorful sandals to complete your outfit. A straw hat and a pair of oversized sunglasses are optional but they can help you create a chic beach-bound look.

An important thing to remember before wearing the off-shoulder trend is that it’s not always easy to find the right fit. Unless you don’t mind some wardrobe malfunctions, make sure you carefully select a piece that fits perfectly along the top end. Feel how it fits around your shoulder and your bust, so you can avoid having it slip off while wearing it.

Off-shoulder tops and dresses are already a fashion statement by themselves. So you don’t want to overdo it by wearing chunky jewelry. If you feel the need to wear jewelry, opt for something that’s minimal. Maybe a thin-strand necklace or a pair of minimal dangle earrings will do the trick. The good news is that you can wear your hair however you wish. Tie your hair back in a messy bun or ponytail and leave the neckline expose. Otherwise, just wear it down for a comfortable and laid-back look.

Some women like experimenting with fashion, while some aren’t too daring. If you’re among the latter yet you wish to try the off-shoulder trend, why not go for a single off-shoulder piece? This could work with your formal trousers or skirts for a polished and stylish look. Whatever you decide to wear, make sure you express yourself boldly through your outfit.

Where To Wear Maxi Dresses

Sponsored Post:

Maxi dresses look so damn gorgeous! Do you not feel the same way? I just love the way they lend a flattering shape to our bodies, with the hemline gently swaying around our legs. Many women associate long dresses with formal occasions. To look stylish in maxi dresses without appearing clumsy is solely dependent on how we style it. Also some research is required for selecting the right style for your body type and height. And then with the right accessories, you can go from sleek and classy to trendy and chic in minutes. The good thing about them is that they can be accessorized in many different ways. You can accentuate your dress with a scarf or a belt or even a statement neck-piece. You can also pair it with a matching bag. Maxi dresses can be worn by all. In fact they have grown from a hot new item to wardrobe must haves for every woman. The petite ladies just need to be a little cautious while selecting the latest dress design else they might end up brushing the floor with their long dresses.

maxi dresses

Not only in the Indian but the international fashion circuit has also favored the latest dress designs hugely. No wonder these dresses have created a sizeable impact everywhere. Celebrities are donning the dress and popularizing it in award functions, media releases, and red carpets. The longer and more flowing your dress is the more it adds to the feminine charm. Celebrities are also experimenting with various prints and bold colors. For the adventurous souls, the latest dress designs also include animal prints. However, as the thinking woman goes, we should not go by fashion trends blindly. That is to say, what looks good on a film actress may not necessarily make us look flattering. We should make sure that we do not look like a tent by wearing a maxi dress.

Lucy Watson Monochrome Stripe Maxi Dress

A popular question in mind is where to wear a maxi dress. I have seen girls wearing them at friendly gatherings. Some days ago I went to a pub where again I saw a group of young students wearing the long dresses. They sure looked hip in them. Another time when I was at the super market doing my groceries, I found this woman who was looking so cool and casual, running around with the trolley in a maxi dress. And believe me she was not looking out of place or inappropriate in the least bit! I have worn a maxi dress to a relative’s house once, where the ladies all started gushing about how comfortable I must be feeling and all.

It is a general observation that these maxi dresses are mostly to be seen in the casual gatherings, or dressy evenings. However, there is something called casual business dressing which is related to work place fashion. It includes team lunches or dinners, Friday dressing, special office events, trips and the likes of it. We can actually make the maxi dress look very smart and suitable with a little bit of ideas thought out. Maxi dresses can actually be worn at office parties and people have seen women wearing long dresses at work place. Well, definitely not the flowy flared ones, but the ones which are more fitted and have a formal air about them. But nevertheless, it goes without saying that office wear demands conservative dressing so maxi dresses do look out of place there.

Even if you dare to wear it to office, check out the latest dress designs and prints available at StalkBuyLove. Maybe you can go for the conservative cut or a classic print pattern or stripes or even a solid color for the maxi dress that you plan to wear at your work place. But be watchful of the colors you wear. For, a tangerine formal top with pants may look gorgeous and smart at office, but at the same time a tangerine maxi dress at work place! Well, that is not at all advisable. Also for the prints, make sure that they do not make you look like straight out of a rock concert! 114Three and quarter sleeves and simple necklines can add to the formal look of a dress. Another way to wear a maxi dress smartly is to throw a formal shirt over your dress and accessorize with a belt to make it look formal and decent. Team it with your formal shoes and not the casual beach style flip flops.

Spring Summer Trend Alert : Floral Headband Outfit Post

Floral headbands have been making waves in the world of style for some time now. Though this trend was born from the music festival culture and the free-spirited style of those who attend, it has quickly made its way into mainstream street style, sophisticated events and celebrity wardrobes as well! This beautiful accessory can be styled in many different ways; no matter how you wear it, it will instantly add a touch of femininity and freshness to your outfit.

Spring Trend Floral Headband-1 Spring Trend Floral Headband-5 I wanted to create a casual, carefree look, so I decided to play around with this trend myself. And what better time than the start of spring? I styled my floral headband with a gorgeous bohemian maxi dress – the lovely print and strapless style of the dress made it perfect for the ‘bohemian chic’ vibes that I was going for. I absolutely love the free-spirited, flirty feel of this dress, and the colour combination of blue and white screams summertime.

Spring Trend Floral Headband-6

Of course, this look would not have been complete without some accessories to elevate it. I sported a temporary silver tattoo on my hand for some unexpected sparkle. These tattoos are another extremely popular trend, and they’re a great way to add some subtle glamour to an outfit. I love that they allow you to get creative and experiment with body art, sans permanence. Finally, I finished off the ensemble with some minimal jewellery – silver rings for a rustic feel, and an illusion necklace for some barely-there glam.

This ‘do is ideal for spring and summertime weddings, when magic is in the air! After all, floral headbands bring a certain dreamy, angelic feel with them. They’re also a must-have for beach vacations and bonfire parties. Floral headbands are a great, fuss-free way to make a spring style statement. I’m obsessed!

Outfit Post – Oversized Blouse with Crop Trousers with Key Jewellery Pieces

I have always had a soft spot for eclectic and sophisticated jewellery. I fiercely believe that your baubles can make or break your outfit, and that the right type of jewellery has the power to elevate a good outfit to ‘#goals’ status.

Recently, I was trying to put a carefree yet on-trend look together – something that was perfect for easy weekends, but also scored high in terms of style. I started by working with a pair of black cropped trousers. This silhouette has been all over the runway and streets for the last few months, and I really wanted to experiment with it.

Lily-and-Rose-Jewellery-4

I’ve realised that when it comes to sporting cropped trousers like a superstar, a good pair of heels can do wonders for the look. I chose to pair my trousers with peep-toe, block heel boots – the ultimate statement footwear. Finally, I threw on an oversized blouse.

Lily-and-Rose-Jewellery-3
to ramp up the cool but casual vibes and balance out the proportions of my look. I am head-over-heels in love with the beautiful powder blue shade of this top. Aren’t you?

Lily-and-Rose-Jewellery-8

Once I had my ensemble in place, I started to think about the finishing touches –namely, jewellery. I brought out a gorgeous turquoise bracelet and matching pendant. The blue stones from the jewellery accentuated the blue of my blouse, and brought the look together perfectly. However; I don’t like to go over-the-top with matching. Over the years, I have learned that you don’t have to coordinate every single detail of your dress and accessories to perfection. In fact, you probably shouldn’t, because too much matching can easily become overkill. I much prefer to break the monotony and experiment with bold pieces that make a strong style statement in their own right.

Lily-and-Rose-Jewellery-5

So, that’s exactly what I did! I finished off the look with a pair of statement earrings that ended up becoming the highlight of my outfit. It just goes to show that a little bit of bijou can go a long way!

In the outfit above I have used the jewellery collection from Lily & Rose.

Handbags Styling Tips and Outfit Look with my New Tote

Handbags play a dual role in our life, we have them for practicality and for style as well and My love for hand bags knows no bounds. Well who doesnt love handbands, if given a choice I will try and get one bag in every shape and form.  You can read all about the latest trends in handbags here from my last post.

1-YNOT-London-Bag-2

By Practical I mean – we buy handbags that can hold everything, are versatile (who wants a bag which can be worn with only one outfit)

By Style I mean – a bag which along with being practical has a personality and can add a bit of oomph or style to the outfit

Hence a handbag is a mix of style and practicality to all of us, an accessory which has a bit of function along with adding that extra punch to the outfit. A handbag is not an impulse item, if you decide to splurge on a bag make sure you take care of your bag properly by storing it right.

This season I have added a new handbag to my collection, a new style which i didn’t have in my wardrobe before. Something that represents my current style and state of being.

So here is the big reveal – the new addition to my wardrobe is the YNOT London Kiss Tote. No brownie points for guessing why I chose the London theme bag.

1-YNOT-London-Bag-5

But if you didn’t, well it’s because I love the London and the bag which represents one of my favourite cities in the world. This is a kind of bag that you can style with any outfit to instantly add oomph to your outfit. Tote bags is always a great style for both work and casual days. You can use it for shopping and stuffing small items in your bag and also to add grace and polished look to your outfit.

Here, I have paired this with a grey boyfriend blazer and stripe tshirt and blue ankle length jeans.

Weekend is meant to be a relaxed time of the week and when you are doing different things like meeting friends, shopping etc. and a stripe top can be versatile and be paired with lot of things to create new looks.

To add oomph to the outfit when going out with friends I instantly added a platform heels and a statement bag and voila it was a look to kill for but very effortless, in nutshell such looks makes you look great without looking like you tried too hard for it.

1-YNOT-London-Bag-4I even pushed my hairs into a ponytail to make sure they looked sleek.

Also, here are some of the tips on how to style a handbag –

  1. Make sure you buy a bag which you can carry from day to night and pair up with multiple outfits
  2. Get bags in different shades, if you have lots of black and grey bags they will look the same so make sure you have prints and coloured bags in your wardrobe too, to add versatility to your outfits
  3. Bags with defined shapes look better than the slouchy ones any day
  4. Invest more in a bag that you will carry all day and the occasion wear bags can be where you can save some bucks by buying bags from high street brands

Remember to be different and daring and not be afraid to experiment

Bagging the Right Look – Different Types of Handbags in Trend for 2016

We women love our bags. And being highly attached to those little leathery delights that carry all your essentials is perfectly normal. Or so I tell myself. Being an ardent bagaholic, I have a huge collection with numerous pieces of each type. And as trends change every season, I add a few more to my closet in keeping with f-world’s reigning favourites. So which bags am I favouring this reason?

Read on to find out about the different types of bags in trend in 2016.

handbags-in-trend-2016

1. Crossbody – Crossbody bags are a staple item that every diva’s wardrobe should have. They are roomy, can hold all your knick-knacks and are very convenient to carry. Simple sling such a bag across your body from one shoulder to the opposite hip and you’ll look sharp and chic. Crossbody bags look best with casual and semi-formal outfits, though some experimental fashionistas may even be seen carrying (a neutral-hued) one to office.
Best Wear – A day out with the girls or on vacation during a sightseeing session.

2. Satchel – Typical satchel bags have a boxy form and lock-in clasps to keep your stuff safe. They have ample space and may even fit in small gadgets like an iPad or tablet. Great for office-wear, tan and brown leather satchels are a classic formal bag that is spotted on a lot of corporate women. In recent times, smaller satchels in pastel colours have become very popular, thus taking them away from the exclusive role of office accessories; such satchels can be carried with a lot of casual outfits.
Best Wear – On a hectic office day when you need all your essentials close at hand.

3. Weekender Bag – Like the name suggests, weekender bags are structured to service you on a weekend away from home. Usually quite large sized, such bags tend to be huger in width than height, often in an oblong or cylindrical shape. These bags may fit in all the usual stuff from your handbag, a small makeup kit, a water bottle, small gadgets and perhaps an extra set of clothes even. Such bags are a great option for when you have to fit in your fashion survival kit into just one handbag.
Best Wear – As your hand baggage on a flight or an impromptu weekend trip.

4. Beach Bag – Ah, beach bags got you thinking of beautiful blue seas and comfy loungers? Me too! And every time you’re at a beachy location, you should surely have a beach bag with you. Most beach bags are mid-sized rectangular carryalls, made of materials like canvas or blended plastic. Recent fashion trends have catapulted transparent “jelly beach bags” to the top of the charts. These are great for you don’t have to worry about your bag getting ruined by sand and water on the beach.
Best Wear – On a beach vacation with a matching hat or bikini.

5. Clutch – Want to look effortlessly sophisticated? Grab your favourite clutch and well, you’re already half there! Clutches are compact handheld bags that are perfect for occasions when you don’t want to be bothered with something bulky. Though most clutches come with a removable strap, they mostly go unused for the style lies in holding them in a delicate grip. Get yourself a fancy embellished clutch as a fashion quick-fix – those go well with both western and ethnic outfits.
Best Wear – A glam party or wedding event when you’ve got to keep your phone and lipstick handy.

6. Laptop Bags – There’s no mystery as to what these are or what they do – they’re meant to carry your precious lappy! But many of us choose to carry the leather laptop bags that come with the purchase itself. Don’t go down that route, ladies! Instead, explore the various options available in laptop bags too. From printed bags and quilted ones to classic leather pieces, you can go for whatever suits your style/mood. Why should your laptop bag ever be boring?
Best Wear – When you’re working off-site or meeting a client outside the office.

7. Hobo Bag – One of the most versatile bags according to me is the trusty old hobo. Hobos are crescent shaped shoulder bags that are medium to large in size. They have a causal, slouchy appeal that gives an effortlessly chic look to any attire. You can go in for bright and bold hobo bags to jazz up plain outfits or stick to neutrals for using on a daily basis. And the best part is, you can throw in everything you need to get through the day in these – the numerous pockets and zippers are so handy!
Best Wear – A casual day outing to the mall or movies.

8. Tote Bag – Totes are the busy woman’s best friend. They are fuss-free, spacious and stylish in their own way. They have two handles, which allow for free holding as well as carrying on the shoulders. A lot of women are spotted with these when they’re out shopping. You can put in all your small purchases and have fewer packages to carry. But don’t mistake totes to be dowdy bags that are best suited for days you’re engaged in matronly chores – style them well, and they can look oh-so-trendy.
Best Wear – When you’re travelling or are planning to spend your entire day out.

9. Baguette Bag – Baguettes are those bags which are rectangular in shape, with the width being significantly greater than the height. They come in a variety of materials, styles and detailing. You can team them up with practically any outfit. Just keep in mind that they aren’t too roomy, so only your wallet and a few other knick knacks may fit in. These are great for days when you are lazy and don’t want to lug around a big bag.
Best Wear – An evening out with friends or on a romantic dinner/date.

10. Wristlet – Wristlets are clutches with a small strap for your wrist. They allow you to have your lands free while keeping all your go-to essentials close-by. Since these tend to be small and pouch-like, they are best reserved for occasions when you won’t be needing too much other than your wallet, some lipstick and just another thing or two.
Best Wear – A party where you expect to dance the night away!

The How, What & Why of Jumpsuits

Sponsored Post:

We’re continually engaged in discussions relating to jumpsuits for women. Now, the popularity of jumpsuits online is no misnomer. Do you really think all women in India suffer from image and societal perception related anxieties? Well some of them clearly do but that’s got more to do with grounding and age than anything else. Swashbuckling Jumpsuits for women have sometimes been unfortunate scapegoats of non-progressive and jaded thinking on part of Sanskari fashion experts and neighbourhood aunties alike.

Jumpsuits They have been tagged as suitable for only European or foreign (read phoren) women who are anyway exempted from tag lines like an Indian girl’s shame is her pride and so on which have been used to define us Indian women over the years. Enough of our rant however; let’s come back to jumpsuits online which were once quite vilified even by fashion mavens in the country but have lasted long enough to be taken as a serious fashion trend. More and more women are now waking up to the wonders of this amazing outfit. The jumpsuit can be worn elegantly by every woman without ever stepping into crude/vulgar territory and is a versatile garment when it comes to its suitability for multiple occasions and purposes including wearing to the office.

We have already embraced jumpsuits for women with open arms and you should too! Let your fashion and social anxieties take a backseat and experience the sheer magic of this outfit for yourself. The jumpsuit popped up at the beginning of the 20th century and surprisingly was a one-piece, unisex and utilitarian garment. The term itself (you see we’re voracious fashion readers:D) appeared first while describing the uniforms worn by pilots and parachutists in the Second World War. In fact, jumpsuits were worn by Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong to the moon in 1968 (see how rich a history these now-predominantly female outfits have) and became popular fashion outfits linked with Space Age motifs and themes. They were majorly sported by rock icons like David Bowie and even the great Elvis Presley himself.

While remaining quite popular throughout the 1980s, they went out of circulation for more than a decade in mainstream culture before the revival in the 2007-08 period as a popular garment for women across the globe. Jumpsuits for women steadily became integral parts of summer and spring collections and are now on their way towards earning a spot in the Fashion Hall of Fame (how we wish there really was one such organization!).

Contemporary jumpsuits for women come in varied styles ranging from casual to semi-casual and even formal and there are fits tailored to suit every body type. They can be fun, attractive, intriguing and simply functional at the same time. Yet, there are a few dos and don’ts that may come in handy for you in this regard.

Firstly, you should check for a neckline that flatters your torso magnificently. Since jumpsuits are often based on a head-to-toe structure, finding the proper size and style can be a tough ask though there are innumerable styles to pick from. While selecting the right style for your body, always opt flattering necklines since they create a focus point while also framing your upper torso and face (see it’s as scientific as it gets ). They also affect the look of your shoulders andbust and often create illusions of curves for petite and thinner women (one more reason to emphasize strongly on the neckline!).

Cowl necks and turtleneck styles can elongate shorter bodies while turtlenecks are also good for those who wish to offset their bigger face or neck. Boat-necks or crew necks will widen the impression of the shoulders and bust, making them good choices for petite and smaller women.

Strapless-jumpsuit

However, large busted and bigger women should avoid these necklines if possible. There are several nice open necklines including the scoop neck, sweetheart neckline and V-neck which can elongate the torso and show off your tantalizing collarbone (okay, we’re reading too many romance-horror novels these days :P).

There also has to be a balance between the top and bottom. You should always look to cinch your natural waist if you are really slim while a heavier waist entails that you go for jumpsuits which have lower waistlines falling around the hips or so. Empire waists also work in these cases. Volume is one issue and flared bottoms will work fabulously in case the top area is fitted or vice versa. However, do not opt for too much volume since this does not flatter any body type.

Always opt for the suitable drape of the fabric depending on the purpose, i.e. formal, casual and professional occasions. Always opt for materials like nylon, soft cottons, jersey knits and likewise. Refrain from choosing heavier silk or cotton materials unless you are looking for something suitable for formal and fancy occasions. Visit StalkBuyLove.com for a wide selection of jumpsuits for women and come back soon to get more such tips and tricks from our end.

How The French Do It

I spent the last weekend flipping through some fashion magazines when I realized something – there is nothing as elegant and classy as the French fashion sensibility. It’s not for no reason that Paris is considered the Fashion Capital of the World – there is something about French stylistics that is truly exclusive, unique and lovely.

French-Fashion-Styling-Outfit-4

And here’s what that is – minimalism. The French fashion mantra is to keep your look clean. That’s not the same thing as going in for simple, classic clothing. Minimalism is about making your clothes the heart of your ensemble, having very few accessories and letting the makeup be subtle. And personally, I’m all for such styling. Which is why, I decided to put together a look featuring an outfit by French brand Turbowear and you can see the outcome for yourself.

French-Fashion-Styling-Outfit-5

The dress is a flowy, A-lined number made of cotton jersey and net. It has geometric patterns, cutwork neck and nape detailing and deep, summery shades. I live the slight net border at the hem of the skirt which gives a huge edge to this outfit. I believe one can never go wrong with French Styling be it any occasion.

French-Styling-Outfit-Post

To highlight the outfit, I wore nothing more than small pearl earrings and a black pearl bracelet. I chose a pair of open-toed mid-heeled sandals, which added a delicate, feminine touch to the look. I carried along a yellow crossbody bag which complemented the yellow in the dress – you do need a roomy carryall for a day out with friends for sure. For an evening do, I would have taken a simple black clutch instead.

I also did carry a light jacket with me, but that was more for functional purposes – it tends to get chilly here in the evening during Spring.

Since I kept the accessorising minimal, the cut outs in the neck and nape area of the dress – which add so much oomph to the outfit by showing skin in a coy way – got highlighted well. Had I added afew more accessories, this statement dress would’ve lost its charm. I realized that such French styling is perfect for days when I don’t want to be bothered with accessorising and heavy makeup. I could then even wear such a dress to office, though only if paired with a black blazer and block heels for a more formal look of course.French-Fashion-Styling-Outfit-2

I like that this dress has that versatile quality – even though it’s light and summery, it can be worn for formal occasions if styled intelligently. And versatile clothing is the forte of Turbowear. They make beautiful outfits using edgy accents and unique detailing, which tends to draw much attention in fashion-friendly crowds. You can visit their collection at the website : http://www.turbowearshop.fr/

I can see myself wearing quite a few items from their collection. What about you? Feel like experimenting with the minimalist look? Do share your thoughts…

Different Types of Boots in Trend – What’s Your Pick?

Boots are a winter wardrobe essential and today, there are just so many varieties out there! These days, they are not just a fashion statement but also a reflection of one’s personal style. So which kind of boot is your favourite?

Boots-in-Trend

I like almost all kinds of boots. Ankle Boots are practical and very versatile; a great choice to pair with both casual and dressy outfits. When I want to amp up the glamour quotient however, I go in for Knee-High Boots. They look great with short dresses or skirts so you can wear them when dressing up for a date or outing. Off late, these classic long boots have often been remodelled as Over-the-Knee Boots, though sadly, I don’t own such a pair as yet. They have joined the high-fashion bandwagon as a wonderful way to look great and stay warm. Maybe I’ll buy a pair soon!

Leaving aside my future shopping plans, another one of my favourite styles is the Peep-Toe Boots. This cross between peep-toe heels and regular boots has made them all the rage since Winter 2014. They are great for occasions when you’re all about style and not about the weather; open from the front, Peep-Toe Boots don’t really shield you from the chill completely but do offer some protection! But they certainly look fabulous and go very well with shorts and skinny jeans.

I also own a pair of the ankle boots, which is one of the most versatile pair I have, I have worn it with dresses, shorts, jeans. This one style should always be in your wardrobe and I promise you it will never go out of style ever for you.

Finally, on those days that my Bohemian side is out to shine, I usually pick up a pair of tasselled boots. They look great with kaftans, ripped jeans and fusion outfits even. But oh my! I could go on and on about my love for boots, quoting style-after-style that appeals to me. But the question is, what style is your favourite? I’d love to know so don’t hesitate to share!

My Favourite Looks From the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring 2016

It’s that time of the year again when the fashion world is abuzz with activity. There’s an exciting line-up of Fashion Shows in store for us, kick-started by the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring 2016.

Haute-Couture-Week-2016

And what a week it was! The most exclusive fashion brands showcased their Spring collections’ in the sartorially-charged environs of beautiful Paris. The events were held from January 24 – 29 and the who’s-who of the fashion world were there to attend them all. I followed all the news from the Paris Haute Couture Week 2016 very closely, because, well, I just couldn’t stay away from the glitz and glamour!

The collections of fashion giants like Chanel, Dior, Armani and Versace made quite an impression as usual. Their clothes were dramatic, striking and typically OTT, making a bold, beautiful statement with much panache. Jean Paul Gaultier’s display also garnered much attention with its emphasis on flashy, hippy styles of retro nightclubbing.

But my favourites were the collections by Valentino, Viktor & Rolf and Elie Saab. They stood out above the rest and left a lasting impression on their audiences. Valentino’s line reinvented 20th-century Venetian-pagan romanticism in some fabulous apparel, catering to modern fashion sensibilities and lovers of classics alike. Most of their outfits were floor-length pieces embellished with sequins, velvet-detailing and sheer bodices in warm, royal hues.

While Valentino achieved a fine balance of classicism and novelty, Viktor & Rolf remained true to their avant gardeism and captivated the audience with their outrageous clothing. Heaving influenced by Cubist artistry, they presented an interesting spin on conventional styles, using 3D construction and stunning pattern-work. One may doubt the wearability of this collection, but its brilliant conceptualization is simply undeniable.

I have to say though, even as I enjoy the occasional wacky collection, I have a weakness for uber-feminine, delicate styles. Naturally, my favourite collection from the entire show was the magnificent line by Elie Saab. Oh, I could go on and on about his “Enter India” collection and still feel I didn’t do it justice. Saab admitted to being inspired by the notion of a 19th century Englishwoman on a trip to India. His line up featured unique accessories such as lace-up combat boots, sequined Wellies, studded creepers and elaborate belt bags. There were also some exquisite beaded dresses with above-the-ankle hemlines. But the opulent floor-length gowns are what stole the show. In metallic shades with exquisite embroidery and glittery embellishments, these gowns combined the elementary lines of western clothing with the royal splendour of Indian lehengas. I love fusion styles, so naturally, my favourite piece was an ivory-golden gown with a flowy, head-covering train.

In the end, I can only say that I thoroughly enjoyed this Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. I believe that this brilliant start is a precursor to the wonderful fashion output 2016 is to bring to us. And these were just my favourites – I love to hear from you about what you loved from this show too!

Barbie Becomes Better With The Newly Released Dolls Having Varied Body Types

new-barbie

Have you come across the huge wave of social media appreciation that has gone Mattel – The Barbie Maker’s – way, ever since the release of their new dolls this year? I did, and it made me so very happy! Now, aside from the original Barbie body, the Barbie Fashionistas Line has “petite”, “curvy” and “tall” dolls too. Isn’t that simply wonderful?

Maybe this diversification of Barbie body types affected me more deeply because I have a closer insight into feminine body image issues. As an image consultant and fashion stylist, I’m privy to the insecurities and desires of women from different walks of life. You have no idea how many of these arise from a mindless longing for “the perfect body”.

Today, with so much discourse on the female body, numerous body types and new definitions of “perfection”, things are changing. Slowly perhaps, but there has certainly been some progress. I mean, look at this Fashionistas Line of Barbies that has been released in 2016. It has dolls with 4 body types, 7 skin tones, 22 eye colours, 24 hairstyles and many stylistic nuances. The first-ever flat shoes on a Barbie are also finally here. Surely, we are moving towards a healthier understanding of diversity and individualism and that is brilliant, no less.

In my opinion, this respect and appreciation of all body types is absolutely essential. We are all born unique, with varied physical features, and that’s just how it is. No brand, no toy and no designer label should set standards of beauty common to all, when we are all born so differently. True, the hour-glass figure has been considered the best female form since times immemorial. But we need to move beyond this mind-block and realise that different proportions suit different body structures and beauty is in fact, in the eyes of the beholder. As women, we should be intensely aware and proud of our bodily form and dress to accentuate our assets. We should wear clothes that flatter our body shape and that will boost our confidence in many, many ways.

With Mattel having realized this, the iconic Barbie is now a better reflection of different feminine body structures and complexions. This is a step in the right direction. I hope you’re headed the same way too!

Valentines Day Outfit Ideas

So, each year, I make sure to plan ahead and enjoy the day in style. When I say “in style”, I basically mean that the OOTD is carefully put together (sometimes post an unplanned shopping spree) and is an important part of my V-Day prep. If you’ve still not decided what to do and/or wear on the 14th of Feb this year, here are my recommendations on what you can do.

Casually Chic for a Day Outing

If you’re not going the typical route with fancy lunches or dinner but a simple day outing instead, wearing some casual classics would be great. Team a pair of well-fitted jeans with a white shirt and maybe even a cap or hat. This ensemble will have you looking effortlessly stylish and ready for your outing.

Romantic, Girly for a Special Lunch or Movie Date

Valentines Romantic Day Out

Lovely lunches and movie dates are pretty special – you’ll probably remember the day for years to come. So, dress to impress in a flowy, chiffon one-piece, be it a dress or a jumpsuit. Accessorize with red pumps or matching heels, a delicate neckpiece and maybe even some bangles. Amp up your feminine charm with a curly hair-do, manicured nails and dewy-finish makeup. You’ll look fabulously fashionable and all set for some sweet romance.

Formal for a Dinner Date

Pair it with a statement jacket and sky-high heels. Wear some necklaces and bracelets, leaving the hair straight so as to accentuate the outfit and accessories. With such a striking, high couture ensemble, you’ll certainly be getting oodles of attention from your date and others.

So what do you think? What’s it going to be, this Valentine’s Day?

Exclusive Interview with Fashion Label : Myrah

One of my most recent run-ins with an up and coming Indian fashion house, called Myrah which itself means “clothing fit for queens”, really impressed me. It happened in the progress of my prep for attending the Pure London Show slated for mid-February.

Myrah Pure London
Though they are now planning for their foray into the international market, it all began with one woman’s love for shopping and unique eye for fashion and style. Sreetama Ghosh the co-founder of Myrah does not have a formal background in the fashion design, and has actually done her graduation and post-graduation in English Literature! But her passion was scouting local markets from across the world to find distinctive clothes and accessories for herself, friends and family, and that passion is what the foundation of Myrah rests upon today.

Maybe I’m making it sound all too easy. Myrah has become what it is today through a combination of Sree’s fashion skills and her husband’s business acumen. Her partner in crime is Aritra Nandi, a business graduate who tried to forge his wife’s fashion interests with his business sense, coming up with a sustainable entrepreneurial model. So, he developed a plan and disclosed it to his wife, and the rest is history. In Sree’s own words, “Being married to a businessman really gives you a drive, a go-getter vibe. I always wanted to do this, transform my career to suit my passion in shopping for beautiful things. But would I have done it immediately? Not sure. Suddenly, with his support, and ideation, it became a tangible dream.”

And when dreams become a reality, isn’t it just the best and what fuels one to make it an even bigger success because you are doing what you love and enjoy the most? Think about is, ever since its inception just a mere 5 months ago, Myrah has already been invited to and participated in numerous national (Mumbai, Pune, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Jaipur) and international exhibitions like Pure London, Singapore International Shopping Festival. This Bangalore-based venture may soon be reigning in the fashion world in India and maybe even internationally.

Myrah Pure London

Clearly, Myrah is striking a chord with its audience and thus getting such great response from them. And I can completely see why. Their moto is “Perfect Causal Elegance” which translates into some chic clothing for “when you go out for those long brunches, lunches, a day at the park, high tea, a drink at quaint brewery, a coffee date – looking elegant but never overdressed.”

This fashion philosophy simply has to be a hit. It targets the sensibility of the modern consumer who wants to look subtly glamorous in clothes that are comfy, fitted and exclusive. On being asked what Myrah’s USP is, Sree states that “when you shop with Myrah, you are not just picking up pretty clothes, sure that too, but it’s about feeling good about yourself. Feeling at ease with yourself, your body and your self-image. We do not believe in forcing you to wear off the rack, mass-produced clothes that every major brand in the world thinks is the “In Style”. What looks great on a Parisian model needn’t be the perfect dress for you. What an Indian movie actress wears in a random movie portrayal is not really YOU, is it?” No, it isn’t us, and yes, we completely get what this closet therapist means!

Myrah Pure London

Another thing about Myrah which strikes me as very fascinating is that most of their collection is made using Indian fabrics to create western silhouettes. And get this, their Indian attires are truly one-of-a-kind in that no piece will ever be made or sold again. Now that is seriously wonderful. And so, when Sree says that “you need to look good every day, you need comfortable and well-fitted clothes – Myrah understands your needs and takes care of them”, I believe her and agree with her fashion sensibility.

And so, I cannot wait to see Myrah grow from strength to strength and make its name in the fashion world. If you are excited about their clothes too, check out their collection either at their store located in Bangalore (No. 279, 5th Main, 6th Cross Indiranagar, Bangalore-38) or online at www.myrah.co.in and www.facebook.com/myrahthestore.

I look forward to checking out their collection personally at Pure London Show, which is happening in London from Feb 14 – Feb 16, this month. I personally think their exclusive crafted designs is something not be missed at Pure London show this month.

5 Fashion Tips For Looking Fabulous This Winter

5 Fashion Tips For Looking Fabulous This Winter

Hot chocolate with marshmallows, glittery ornaments on trees and cheerful festive spirits are some of my favourite things about winter. I also appreciate the fact that I can break out my favourite leather jacket without burning up inside and that the cool weather suits my skin really well. Winter style is quite simple, but it can be really hard to stay at your fashionable best when you have to protect yourself from the cold as well. Here are my five favourite fashion tips for the season!

Mix In Some Quirky Print

Most people tend to reach for dark colours like navy, grey, black and maroon in the winter. This season, vow to try something different! Eclectic prints are one of the easiest ways to make a dreary winter day more fun and spice up your ensemble. You can still retain the sombre colour palette for the rest of your outfit, but incorporating a unique abstract print into your look will break the monotony and elevate your outfit.

Jump On The Cape Bandwagon

It goes without saying that a cosy winter coat is an essential for the season, but this year, switch things up by opting for a classy cape instead. Capes are the modern cousins of ordinary winter coats. These babies instantly bump up your outfit from “basic” to “bold” in the best way possible. Keep the rest of your outfit sleek and fitted, to balance out the boxy structure of this piece. I definitely recommend investing in one or two capes in neutral colours for the winter – camel and black are my go-to choices.

Keep Your Hat Game Strong

This year, I have fallen head over heels in love with headgear of all kind but my all-time favourite piece has been the good old fedora style hat. These are great for adding some pizzazz to an ordinary outfit or simply hiding the fact that you are having a bad hair day. There are so many different styles, colours and patterns available, so play around and explore the range until you find the fedora that works for you.

Leather Leggings Are Hot (Literally)

There is something downright fierce about a pair of fitted leather leggings – they are so versatile and can be styled with anything from an oversized woollen sweater to a leather biker jacket. The best part is that leather actually keeps you really warm, without adding any bulk to your frame, so you can still retain a fitted ensemble if you please. Pair these bad boys with your cape for a stunning outfit!

Fur Accents Are Winning

I love a good fur jacket (faux, obviously!) but lately, I find myself gravitating towards looks that are more understated. As you know, accessories can make or break your outfit, and this winter is all about accessories with subtle fur accents. Think about trimmings on hats, handbags, scarves, and earmuffs – the works! This is also a great way to make your first foray into the world of faux fur, if you find the idea intimidating like many first-timers do.

Here’s to a fashion-forward winter – have a good one!

Silver Streak / Metallic Shimmer

Winter is the season of festivities with so much to enjoy the best way to add oomph to your attire is accessorize with Metallic Shoes & Accessories. I love the glisten of silver sandals and bags, and no matter how cold the night is they will always add that sparkle to your dress.

Fur Coat

One statement piece that you must buy this winter is a fur coat, it’s add that instant glamour to our look and is a must have this season. This piece has seen a major comeback this year and is here to stay even for the next winter.  You would love how it can quickly create a night out outfit by simply adding fur coat to your jeans and tshirt.

Puffer Jackets:

With the winter chill settling in, there is nothing better than opting for this fashionable puffer Jacket which is anything but your typical cold-weather topper. This winter, bold colours, delicate cuts, and cool add-ons accessories are trending big time

Neons:

The vibrant shades of neon from late 70s & 80s will return with lots all add ons this season. You can pair them with neutral colours such as gray, navy, or camel. And it is sure to add to your vibrant personality. You can also choose to do subtle neon on your eyes, lips, or nails and keep everything else neutral or dark.

Chunky Knits:

For the bang-on-winter-trend look, combine your chunky knit sweater or cardigan with leather, silk or voile for surprising effect. This season you will be many big designers coming up with some very interesting styles, Crazy embellishments, sheer styles, one-sleeved, graphic etc. This will make you look edgy and sexy, while still feminine and chic

 Powder Blue and Pink:

The newest take on winter blue is powder blue. Also pink, be it light feminine pink or bubblegum hue, regardless of that you can’t go wrong with these colors this season. These shades with a hint of soft cream would be the favourite choice for tops and shirts this season. They offer both a modern classic and contemporary edge. Intricate embroidery removes the stark feeling of the hue

Statement Hats:

Make a bold statement with a headwear this winter. Big, neutral or bright, you can opt for any to match with your attire. Once you get a statement-making hat, be sure to pair it with some sexy ankle length or knee length boots and you are all set to welcome winters in the most fashionable way.

Ponchos & Capes:

This ’90s clothing staple will come back this winter with a bang!  Pair an over-sized poncho with skinny jeans and sneakers for a super casual winter look. Oversized cape dresses will make you stand out this season with their embellished and inflated designs.  The cape with metallic pattern will dress up any outfit.  You can also pair up with your party dress to stay stylish and warm.
