Home IPL Machines vs. Laser Treatment – All You Need to Know

Hair growth in unwanted places has been a problem faced by both men and women. To address the same issue there are many safe and effective methods for hair removal including shaving, waxing, epilating, laser, electrolysis and so on. Each method of hair removal has its own pros and cons. For example, electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method but is painful and time consuming. Professional laser treatments and at home IPL machines is an alternative treatment which helps in hair reduction.
Laser-Comparison-Home-Salon

So today I am going to be focusing on 2 modern hair removal methods i.e. Professional laser treatments vs. At home IPL machines.

At Home IPL Machines

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light.  In the past few years it has become one of the most popular techniques for removing body hair. One of the major reasons it is so widely accepted is that it is faster and more affordable than other methods. IPL hair removal treatment uses light which destroys the hair follicle after which the melanin is broken down. This helps achieve permanent hair reduction, i.e. one can expect some amount of re-growth.  Due to the popularity of the treatment even home use systems are available, which are a lot smaller and are designed specifically for hair removal. They are widely available in shops at a number of large pharmacies, as well as online.

PROS

  • Affordable: Buying the at home IPL machine is way cheaper than getting a laser treatment and is usually a onetime investment. However, depending on the type of machine you may have to invest in replacement of certain parts like bulbs.
  • Convenient: You can go at your own pace, whenever you want and wherever you want.
  • Flexibility: As soon as your hair starts growing back, you can treat them straight away instead of having to wait for your appointment at a salon. Many devices also offer flexibility in terms of different features.
  • Privacy: If you are someone who is conscious about your body then using a at home IPL machine is perfect for you.
  • You regulate the pain: if your device has flexibility in terms of how strong do you want the light to be then you can adjust it as per the results you want. The weaker settings will be less effective at removing hair, but it’s ideal for people have a low pain threshold. You can switch the light settings to a stronger setting at any point if you feel ready.

CONS

  • Cost of replacement parts: Some at home IPL machines come with bulbs which need to be replaced frequently. These replacements parts are expensive.
  • Skin Type – Most suitable for people with light skin and dark hair. IPL treatment takes a longer on dark skin to work as the melanin in the skin absorbs some of the light and making it less effective.
  • Usage: Some body parts that you may want to treat may be difficult to reach. Thus you may need someone else to help even with a home IPL machine.
  • To achieve the desired result one needs to do a number of regular sessions.
  • Time consuming: Procedure needs to be repeated as hair growth is uneven and one may be slower when performing the treatment on you.
  • Lack of professional assistance: A professional or expert at IPL will be able to give better results, give advice and take care of any problems which may occur.
  • Side effects like itching, swelling or burns may occur. Hence it is always advisable to go for a patch test before.

Salon Laser

Laser treatment for hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world. What happens in a laser treatment? Highly concentrated light is beamed into hair follicles to achieve hair reduction. Pigment in the hair follicles absorbs the light which destroys the hair. Lasers can be used for removing unwanted hair from the face, arm, leg, underarm, back, bikini line, and other parts.

 PROS

  • Larger areas can be covered quickly and getting professional laser is an efficient method for hair reduction.
  • It is generally safer than at home IPL machines since the treatment is carried out by qualified professional
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • For permanent hair removal electrolysis is a better option, but professional laser treatment can achieve permanent hair reduction.
  • When compared to waxing or any other hair removal technique, professional laser requires less number of treatments.

 CONS

  • Professional laser is more expensive than at home IPL machine and one needs to be ready for a big financial commitment.
  • Since hair growth it uneven, one need to go for multiple sittings and one needs to make prior appointments for the same.
  • Usually laser hurts somewhere between an elastic sting and a moderate burn, but it really depends on ones pain threshold. But since it is higher intensity, it can be more painful.
  • Does not work on blonde or grey hair as they laser cannot sense pigment in hair follicle.
  • Side effects like itching, swelling, discoloration or burns may occur. Hence it is always advisable to go for a patch test before.

Both salon laser hair removal and at home IPL machines can achieve hair reduction and each has its own merits and demerits. It is ultimately your choice by weighing the pros and cons of both the options. Salon treatment would be safer, quicker and long lasting, whereas, at home treatments would be cheaper, convenient and provide more flexibility.

Salon Science Repair and Radiance Range Review

All the damsels distressed by the quality of their hair – this post may be the harbinger of hope; hope of having a headfull of wonderful, luscious locks.

Salon Science

Like a lot of women, even I was quite sceptical about products claiming to improve the quality of one’s hair. Of course, styling products can change the way your hair looks temporarily, but to think that the essential texture, strength and growth-pattern may change – I didn’t think that was really possible.

But over the years, as I experimented with all kinds of hair products, I realized that there is scope for improvement. You just have to find the right concoction. And this belief was only strengthened when I recently started using products by Salon Science – they worked like a charm on my hair!

In fact, I was so impressed by the results, I decided to dig a little bit deeper and discover exactly how the Salon Science products work. From what I can tell, these products combine powerful active ingredients and plant stem cell extracts, which together, rejuvenate the hair from within. The makers have created several series of products to tackle varied hair-related problems such as ageing, lifeless hair, damaged hair, dry hair and hair loss. I got myself three products from their GSP-T SWISS GRAPE Range which promises Repair and Radiance. All of them – the REPROTECTANT™ THERMAL CRÈME, the REGLOSSE™ SMOOTHING SERUM and the RECORRECT™ LEAVE IN TREATMENT – have helped enhance the health and quality of my hair.

Now let’s look at each individual product of the above-mentioned lot. The REPROTECTANT™ THERMAL CRÈME is perhaps the most useful for me. I subject my hair to heat-based styling rather often and so, having such a product handy is quite convenient. It is supposed to be used on dry or towel-dried hair before exposure to heat-based instruments such as blow driers, straightening irons or curling tongs. The crème has a gooey texture but it spreads on the hair easily and evenly. There is no greasiness or residue and once the styling is done, but I do find my hair heavy with product after this but I am comfortable as I know I am not losing any moisture or healthy sheen. The antioxidants and UV-filter protection infused into this crème’s formula make it an ideal choice for hair subjected to heat-styling and ample environmental stress.

The REGLOSSE™ SMOOTHING SERUM has wonderful restorative properties as well. It has a dense consistency but easy applicability. A small amount – just about two to three pumps – is sufficient for my hair. I use it after showers when I’m intending to leave my hair natural, without any styling. As my hair soak up all the goodness of the serum’s constituent grape seed extract and tocopherol, there is significant improvement in their texture when completely dry. My hair, which is sometimes prone to frizz, becomes smooth, shiny and easy to tame. This serum is a great way to nourish hair over an extended period of time and should be an essential part of the hair-care regime of divas having dry, frizzy hair.

Coming to the RECORRECT™ LEAVE IN TREATMENT, in my case, this is the product I didnt use at the start but in the end it became my favourite of all, used of my haul from Salon Science. Not because it is unsatisfactory or does not deliver what it promises, but just that the other products are effective enough – I don’t need this as much since the crème and serum are enough to have my hair looking good and staying healthy. Nonetheless, let me tell you about this leave-in treatment. The product has a somewhat thick consistency and mild, inoffensive smell. I use it after a headwash on days when I have been styling my hair using heat-based appliances too frequently. It is thick and spreads through my hair evenly. Though it doesn’t leave my hair greasy, I wouldn’t recommend it to people whose hair gets weighed down easily with product usage.

I have to say though, this trio of hair-enlivening wonders have made my tresses healthier, shinier, bouncier with just a few weeks of use. I may even try the PhytoCellTec™ Swiss Apple Range that’s has benefits of Anti-Ageing and Restored Volume. These products may not be inexpensive, but I feel they’re worth every penny spent. After all, any expenditure on haircare which actually makes a difference is not a waste but an investment! That’s what I believe. What about you? Share your thoughts!

Heatless Curls With Sea Salt Spray

How’s your summer spirit? Mine is soaring and I find myself experimenting with summer fashion trends every other day. Off late I have been trying out new hairstyles and soft, curly hair is my favourite look for this season.

My Look with Sea Salt Hair Spray
Beach Waves The thing about soft curls or wavy hair is that are suitable for any kind of occasion – a causal outing, evening event or party, or if styled properly, even for office. And there’s loads of ways to get your tresses all fluffy and curled. Of course, the most popular way to curl them using curling wands or irons. But guess what? You can get the look without any of the harmful heat treatment too! All you need to do is use sea salt spray and a bit of your ingenuity and you’ll be good to go.

Now even if you go down the sea salt spray route, you have several options. You can always go in for a store bought spray, but where’s the fun in that? I say, make your own spray! And trust me, DIY sea salt spray is both easy to put together and very effective too.. Let me tell you how you can make some at home with ingredients that are just lying about the house.

Here’s what you’ll need – sea salt, coconut oil, hair gel or leave in conditioner, some water and a storage bottle (preferably one that has a spray nozzle). Warm up one cup-full of water and add in one tablespoon of sea salt. Stir the solution till the salt dissolves. In a separate container, mix one tablespoon each of coconut oil and hair gel/leave-in conditioner. Now add the two mixtures you have prepared and shake/stir well to combine. Pour into the storage bottle and use when you want to get those lovely curls.

Things you will need to get this look (4 Products only)
Beach-waves-salt-sprayIt’s really simple, isn’t it? But maybe you don’t want to put in that much effort. If that’s the case, you can always go in for a store-bought concoction. I have used Mark Hill Holiday Hair Beach Babe Wave Sea Salt Spray and it’s quite nice. If you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive option, this product would be ideal.

This Mark Hill product is good if you want to create loose curls and give your hair a little bit of texture. The spray is light and allows your hair to remain wavy for several hours with ease. The best part is that is contains real sea salt as well as other beach-sourced ingredients which makes it very mildly chemical. You can use this liberally, without having to worry about your hair quality being compromised due to use of harsh products.
Beach-waves-salt-spray-mark-hillNow the question is, how does one use sea salt spray – be it homemade or store-bought – to style their hair? All you need is a comb, spray, two rubber bands and a dryer (and that too if your hair is wet and you’re short on time). There’s two ways to go about it. The more fuss-free one is when your hair is damp and you need a quickly put together curly do. In that case, ensure your hair is not wet but has some moisture. Spray on the sea salt solution on separate sections of your hair. If you don’t want too much volume, avoid using it on the roots. After spraying it all over, comb your hair for even distribution of the product. Then scrunch and twist your hair to give them the desired curly texture. The scrunching and twisting will activate the sea salt and help your hair retain their twirled form.

If you want a more intense look with tighter curls, you’ll need some overnight styling. This technique is actually quite rustic, but hey, it works! All you need to do is wash your hair and wait for them to lose enough moisture so they are just slightly damp. Then spray on ample quantities of sea salt solution and comb your hair. Part your tresses and make two plaits (yes, quite like you used to when a little school girl). Secure the braids with rubber-bands and leave them that way overnight. If you don’t have that much time, you can blow dry your plaited hair with your dryer, but use only the cool setting. Open your plaits when your hair is dry and voila! You’ll have these tight, beautiful curls that make you look like you just stepped out of a salon!

So this is how you get curls without heat treatment, right at home. But if you want to use a curling wand or iron, you can read my upcoming post on how to use such curling implements instead. Follow my blog to keep yourself updated!

Amphora Aromatics – Rose and Pomegrante Shampoo & Conditioner Review

When I stumbled across AA Skincare, a natural skincare range by Amphora Aromatics, I knew that I simply had to try this brand for myself. For starters, I was completely taken in by their philosophy of creating naturally effective skincare products that do not harm our earth and natural resources. As if that wasn’t enough, Amphora Aromatics strong background in aromatherapy and natural skincare meant that these products were going to be truly effective. As you might expect, essential oils and natural ingredients play a key role in this skincare range – think Rose, Almond, Sandalwood, Seaweed, Aloe and more!Amphora-Aromatics-Shampoo-ReviewWhen I got my hands on the Rose & Pomegranate Hair Care Kit, I couldn’t contain my excitement! Imagine a heavenly combination of rejuvenating rose and anti-oxidant rich pomegranate, which complement each other wonderfully and work together to create magic for your mane.

I completely fell in love with the light rose fragrance while using shampoo, and could not get over how lovely my hair smelled after washing it! The conditioner is really good too – sweet smelling and very nourishing. Personally, I feel that these products would be better suited to ladies who have dry hair rather than oily hair, as it is noticeably milder in comparison to other high street products, and does not lather quite as much, either. But hey, I’m not complaining!

To my mind, the best part about this range is the fact that it is natural, so you can rest assured that their products don’t contain any of the other nasty, harmful ingredients that others might. What’s not to love?

If you’re looking for the perfect mix of nourishing hair care and a heavenly scent that puts you in a good mood, this is it!

Summer Skincare Tips

Warm weather is upon us  and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m dreaming about beaches, mojitos, summertime sunsets and stylish swimwear…but I’m also thinking about skincare and hydration, and you should be too! The strong rays of the sun can really suck the life out of your skin, and I believe that it’s always best to prevent the damage rather than fix it afterwards. Ladies, here are my top ten skincare and haircare tips for the summertime:

Summer-Skincare

  1. You have heard it before and I will say it again: there is no replacement for drinking water. Yes, it is absolutely essential all year round, but it is especially important in the summer, when the heat sucks the hydration out of your skin. Remember, eight glasses a day keeps the skin doctor away.
  2. Like water, sunscreen should be part of your skincare routine throughout the year, but when the sun is out, sunscreen is non-negotiable. Wear it before you apply the rest of your makeup and save yourself some nasty burn (or worse!)
  3. For extra skin protection, switch to makeup that contains SPF. Most products will mention their SPF content, if any, on the label, but ask your sales representative for help if you’re not sure!
  4. Treat your skin to some cooling facemasks. Ingredients like cucumber and yogurt are very soothing on heated skin, while lemon and lime are great de-tanning agents.
  5. Never leave your home without moisturising your face and body, to replenish the hydration that they’ve lost to the warm air. If you are prone to oily skin, use a light, oil-free moisturiser to prevent unwanted shininess.
  6. As far as possible, use oil-free formulations when it comes to makeup. These products are less likely to clog your pores when you sweat.
  7. When it comes to your lips, use a lip balm that contains SPF. You can wear it on its own or apply it below lipstick or lip gloss for protection.
  8. Invest in a hydrating mist for your skin, or make your own by simply putting some water and a drop of essential oil into a spray bottle. Spritz this onto your face every few hours to revitalize your skin and prevent it from drying out.
  9. We’ve spoken about your skin, but what about your tresses? Again, use products that have SPF wherever possible, and never step outside without applying a protective leave-in conditioner to guard your hair.
  10. Always carry a hat to cover your hair from the harmful rays of the sun. If they’re not your cup of tea, use a cute headscarf instead!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer – Swatch Medium Neutral

Blemishes, Pigmentation, Dark circles are no woman’s best friend. That’s where concealers come in. They make flawless skin possible by brightening your skin, hiding your acne, pigmentation and dark circles.  Concealers give a good finish if applied before your foundation. Dab a little product where required and blend well for a flawless look.Urban-Decay-Naked-Skin-ConcealerToday I will be reviewing the URBAN DECAY NAKED CONCEALER which I recently came across. The URBAN DECAY NAKED CONCEALER is a high coverage weightless concealer which gives a luminous, demi-matte finish.

I use a concealer to cover up my pigmentation around the lip area and under my eyes. I opted for a shade lighter than my other concealers and found that it works well for both, my eyes and around the lip pigmentation. Also, a lighter shade of concealer can double up as a brow or cheek bone highlighter to enhance your features.Urban-Decay-Naked-Skin-Concealer-2Pros

  • Creamy
  • Weightless, but provides a full coverage
  • Covers scars, redness, dark circles and pigmentation well.
  • A lighter shade of the urban decay concealer can also double up as a highlighter to give a good glow to your face.
  • Product comes with an applicator; you can either dab on dots of the product or apply more with the wand.
  • No Parabens

Cons

  • The product settles into the fine lines around my under eye and forms creases. To avoid this, I make sure that I don’t use too much product around my under eye and really blend it well into my skin.
  • Little on the expensive side
  • The applicator tends to pick up too much product.

Final Thoughts: It’s a good product if you want a medium coverage which gives a more natural look.

Dior Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder Review

I hope all you divas are enjoying a fab, couture-filled week. I certainly am, for if nothing else, I’ve been trying out a lot of new makeup and cosmetics, which is always so much fun! This review is based on my experience with the Dior Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder; here’s what I feel about it…Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder-3 The loose powder comes in an elegant box with a silver cap having the classic Dior quilted finish and brand-name embossing. The packaging is fairly sturdy and can be carried in your purse, but I think they could have made it more travel-friendly. It comes with a white puff which is great for fuss-free application, though I usually use a foundation brush, especially when putting it on at home.

Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder-5

Now coming to the powder itself; it’s incredibly light and airy so your skin will never feel cakey or heavy after application. It blends in with your foundation seamlessly, though on looking at it, you might think the powder is too pink or too pigmented for a subtle “barely-there” finish. But as you put it on, it’s completely sheer and locks in the base makeup wonderfully.Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder-4What I love about this product is that is gives the face a nice matte finish, without drying out less oily areas like the cheeks. I don’t have to worry that the mattifying effect will leave my T-zone non-greasy but make the rest of my face look dull and lifeless; trust me, that happens with a lot of such products!Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder-1 There is one problem though – the powder is somewhat shimmery. And that’s okay if you’re wearing it on an evening out or to a party. But for office-wear, this may not be the ideal choice. I usually keep my makeup subtle at work and the distinctive sheen of this loose powder is hard to miss in well-lit rooms.

The bottom line is that I really like the subtle finish the Dior Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder offers; light and sheer, mattifying yet hydrating. But I mostly use it on special occasions and not for daily wear. I really wish Dior would come up with a non-shimmery variant of this loose powder so I could use it for more causal and official outings too.

Here is the pic of when I am wearing a very light dusting of this powder on my face. A lot more and my face lights up like a light bulb *wink* *wink*Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Invisible Loose Powder-6

But that’s just me. How did you like this Dior product? Any alternative powders you found better or worse? Share your experience too – I’d love to know!

10 Tips to Get Rid of Dandruff

hair treatment
Do you find yourself dusting dandruff off your shoulders all the time? Are you afraid that someone may notice the white flakes on your clothes?

Dandruff may be an embarrassment, but it’s also a serious health issue. Here are ten reasons why you may get dandruff:

  • Dry Scalp: A dry scalp tends to flake and leads to frizzy hair. This invites dandruff.
  • Excessive shampoo: Shampoos contain chemicals that could strip your scalp of its natural oils, thus causing dandruff.
  • Oiliness: Two of the most common causes of dandruff are oiliness and dirt. A greasy scalp accumulates dirt and leads to dandruff.
  • Styling: Styling products contain strong chemicals, which may cause skin irritation. Serums and hair sprays, when used in excess or too frequently, may be harmful for your hair.

Now that you are aware of the causes, the next step is to prevent dandruff. Follow this simple hair care routine to get rid of it.

  • Massage: Massage your scalp with mild essential oils, followed by a regular wash.
  • Shampoo: Use an anti-dandruff shampoo, and brush your hair after the shower.
  • Diet: Consume foods which are rich in zinc, as it helps to prevent dandruff.

Here are some tips to help you part ways with dandruff:

  • Hair wash: Wash your hair regularly with an anti-dandruff shampoo and keep your scalp clean.
  • Natural products: Make use of products that contain natural ingredients and avoid chemicals, as they are harsh and cause flakes.
  • Itching: White flakes lead to itchiness and irritation.  Control the urge to itch, as it may lead to bleeding in the skin of the scalp.
  • Coconut oil: Massage your scalp with coconut oil, as it is one of the most effective solutions to treat dandruff.
  • Aspirin: This may seem strange, but aspirin tablets have been known to control dandruff. Mix aspirin powder with your shampoo, leave it on for 2 minutes and wash it off. Aspirin contains salicylates that treat dandruff.
  • Fuller’s earth: Popularly known as multani mitti, Fuller’s Earth absorbs the extra oil and dirt which are the major causes of dandruff. Apply a paste of Fuller’s Earth with water, and leave it on for 20 minutes for a dandruff-free scalp. Applying multani mitti hair pack is one of the easiest home remedies for dandruff and has no side effects either!
  • Tea tree oil: Tea tree has anti-inflammatory properties and a high rate of dermal penetration, thereby making it an excellent solution to get rid of dandruff.
  • Salt: Salt is the easiest remedy for dandruff. It helps to scrub off flakes easily. Rub salt into your scalp for 10 minutes and wash off.
  • Henna: Henna has the ability to bind to the keratin in hair strands. It also provides relief from scalp irritation and oiliness.
  • Travelling: Pollution increases the likelihood of dandruff, which is why you must always cover your hair while travelling.

Follow these tips for a dandruff free scalp and hassle-free grooming.

Be it a 9 a.m to 5 p.m commitment or a day out with your bundle of joy, women are always on the go with very little time to focus on themselves let alone how they look. Nevertheless, beauty giants and renowned makeup artists have put down their heads together to come up with not only smarter and less time consuming makeup techniques but also certain tools that not only make application smoother but effective every time.

If you are an eye makeup junkie, you would have perfected your cat eyeliner by now with flying colors but if you are a beginner new to the world of eye makeup then cat eyeliner can be a little tricky. Cat eyeliner gives the illusion of a larger eye that not only looks elegant but gives off a chic and an appealing look. Mastering the art of cat eyeliner may seem intimidating to few but with the right tools and guidance it can be a piece of cake!

Companies like Beth Bender Beauty have come up with cat eye stencils that can work wonders for beginners. The Original Cat Eyeliner Stencil & Smoky Eye Makeup Stencils set in particular claims to create top liner, cat eyeliner, cat eye makeup and winged eyeliner! Quite a claim there! Renowned beauty magazines and websites like Seventeen magazines, Cosmopolitan and Teen Vogue have given their stamp of approval and stressed the importance of having one in your makeup stash. Sounds tempting? Let hop on the eye-liner-stencil-bandwagon and see for ourselves how we can create a glam eye look using these simple steps below.

eyeliner stencil

Step 1: Using the Eye brow Kit the pigmented brow wax to define and shape the brows with an angled brush for precise lines and use the brow powder to set in the color. We want our eyebrows to be on point this season.

Step 2: After prepping your brows, apply a small amount of Eye shadow Primer to the eyelids and blend in. This will act as an eye shadow base and help prevent the transfer or creasing of eye shadow and keep it in place.

Step 3: In order to create a nude eye we will be using the Need It Nude Eye Shadow Palette. Sweep a light color all over the eyelids. Now placing the Smokey Eye side on top of the eyelid we will use an eye shadow brush to apply a layer of metallic bronze color inside the space left by the stencil. Lift up the stencil and you have the perfect lid color.

Step 4: Use a blending brush to get rid of any harsh lines.

Step 5: Using another clean shader brush add a medium brown color in the crease in C shape to create a gradient. Now add a comparatively darker shade of the same hue in the crease and extend it outwards to give the big eye illusion. Again take a clean blending brush and fuse the three shades together for a flawless and super sexy look.

Step 6: Now using an eyeliner Pencil in Coffee Brown we will line our upper and lower waterlines. This step adds definition to your lashes.

Step 7: Now place the “Cat Eyeliner” side of the stencil on top of the eye. This gives you the space which needs to be filled in order to create the perfect cat eye. Using the Liquid Eyeliner Pen fill in the space with the product and make sure not to go outside the area of the stencil.

Step 8: Take the other stencil and place the “Bottom line” side just below the lower waterline and fill in the space with the eyeliner. Lift it up and join the lower eyeliner with the wing for a synchronized look. Use a kohl pencil if you like matte cat flicks and layer it on top of the liquid eyeliner patterns drawn with the help of the stencils.

Step 9: Take a lighter shade from the eye shadow palette and apply in the inner corners of the eyes and on top of the brow bones. This step will brighten up your whole look.

Step 10: Use 2-3 coats of 3 in 1 Mascara on your upper and lower lashes for a false lash effect. A pair of false lashes can also be used if you want excessive drama to your look. This is an optional step and can be skipped if you are going for a lesser dramatic look.

Step 11: Use a makeup setting spray to lock in the look and you are good to go.

Useful Tips:

These stencils have proved to be a life-saver for most of us but with the help of some useful tip we can extend the use of these stencils and get professional results every time!

Tip A: Avoid using kohl pencils to fill in the gap for the cat eyeliner. Kohl pencils have creamier textures and they might add layers of products around the circumference of the stencil. This will not only waste the product but also make the application of the liner comparatively difficult. Liquid or gel eyeliners are perfect to work with such stencils.

Tip B: The closer you place the stencil to your lower lash line the thinner eyeliner pattern you can draw.

Tip C: Your eyeliner stencils are made of high quality plastic hence in order to extend their use washes them after every use. Take a flannel dipped in Luke warm water and clean the sides of the stencils properly. If the product doesn’t come off then dip a cotton ball in eye makeup remover and clean the stencils. Always store your stencils in a clean dry environment.

System Professional’s Solar Range in Time for Summer

Every summer has a story to tell. Love to spend a day in the sun, but scared to sacrifice the conditioning of your hair? Fret not, thanks to the Solar Range of System Professional.

System-Professional-Solar-Range

Summer is synonymous to beaches, sand, crystal clear sea and carefree days tanning in a bikini. But it is often accompanied by damaged and lifeless hair if one is careless about moisturizing your hair. The sun, harmful UV rays, sea water, chlorine and the air conditioning can suck the life out of your tresses. It can make your hair frizzy, dry, dull and brittle. But why does this happen?

The hair has pigments and proteins in the inner cortex and a protective layer called the cuticle. The cuticle is responsible for the look and feel of your hair. A smooth cuticle makes the hair look shiny and soft. But an open cuticle which gets exposed to harmful UV rays can penetrate the inner cortex which dehydrates and dulls your hair. If you have colored, dyed or bleached hair then your cuticle is already compromised thus causing a greater damage by dehydrating your hair further. Thus your strands require extra love and conditioning during the summer. To manage sun damaged hair the beauty industry recommends a range of products and home remedies to suit different hair types to retain moisture and keep your strands smooth shiny and protected from the sun.

System Professional’s has come out with a innovative SOLAR range which caters to all the hair needs during summer by protecting your sun kissed tresses while you relax and enjoy your summer without worrying about the consequences of sun damage. The System Professional’s Solar Range is formulated with a special Helioguard complex which nourishes and protects dry and damaged hair. This high performance range of products offers great defense against summer elements like chlorine, UV rays, and air conditioning. It contains UV filters which safeguard your locks from the harsh rays of the sun. The SOLAR Range also includes essential Avocado Oil which nourishes and hydrates damaged hair fiber. The Solar Range also limits dryness with the help of cationic polymers which repairs the damaged tresses. Whether you are enjoying an afternoon tanning on the beach or taking a dip in the sea, the System Professional’s SOLAR range provides a immense protection against the damage of chlorine and UV rays, by preventing damage of the hair fiber lipids and protecting against undesired bleaching of your strands. Thus making weak, dull and lifeless locks damaged by harmful UV radiation, sand, sweat and sea salt a history and flaunting glossy, soft and healthy hair all summer long a thing of the present.

The SOLAR range, like the entire System Professional range boasts the benefit of exceptional EnergyCode technology which is designed to offer complete care to fulfill individual needs of all hair types.

Hair type differs from person to person just like your personality. No two people will have the exact same hair type, however closely related. Thus System Professionals website offers a Mapping tool which has a unique diagnosis process that shows an ultra customized product prescription from the widespread System Professional Range. Know if the SOLAR Range is a part of your EnergyCode by visting www.systemprofessional.com.

The torture that my hair goes through with all the heated treatments like curling, ironing, blow-drying or even swimming makes my hair very coarse – thus they need their TLC once in a while.

The Solaris Solar Cream is a good option to nourish dry and damaged hair. I totally recommend everyone to give it a try.
The only thing is you do need to apply this a decent quatity for it to work properly.

 Solaris Helio Spray (SOL6)

System-Professional-Solar-Helio-Spray

The Solaris Helio Spray is a non-sticky and non greasy modern damage repair spray. The Solaris Helio Spray is a water-resistant product which provides UV protection for all hair types. The product also helps prevent bleaching, protein damage, loss of moisture and color fade.

  • Add the product to an emulsion or hair mask treatment; it transforms the treatment by offering additional strength, resilience against hair breakage and reconstruction.

  • A great product which protects your tresses from sun damage and helps repair the damage.

I have been using these products for past week and I feel that the entire System Professionals Solar Range products are top class professional level quality products. It’s a complete hair care solution which protects your hair from and sun damage and a definite essential for the summers.

Just like sun screen is essential for our skin for everyday use, similarly, it is important to protect and nourish your hair during the summers. Since the harsh sum, sea water and chlorine takes its toll on the hair it is essential to nourish your hair as our heads face the sun more directly than our face.

101 Beauty & Makeup Tips

For Your Skin – Always wear sunscreen when stepping out during the day, regardless of whether it’s sunny or not.

For Your Eyes – Use a high-quality eye-cream every night to prevent/lighten dark circles and/or wrinkles.

For Your Lips – Chapped lips are such a turn-off; be kiss-ready with well-moisturized lips at all times.

For Your Hair – Always shampoo and condition your hair for maintaining optimal quality and texture. If worried about slathering on too many chemicals, go in for herbal products.

For Your Nails – Do not bite your nails; apart from having unsightly fingertips, you also become more prone to skin infections

For Your Outfit – Always dress for the occasion – there is nothing as off-putting as an inappropriately dressed person.

For Your Accessories – Never go completely bare in terms of accessories, even if you are a minimalist. Add character to your outfit by adding a unique touch with some trinket.

For Your Makeup – To ensure that your makeup stays on for long without getting patchy, always start with a good-quality primer suited to your skin quality and complexion.

For Your Body – Drink plenty of water for keeping your skin, hair and body healthy.

For A Healthy, Happy You – Wear only those clothes that make you happy and you are comfortable in. If you are conscious and/or fidgety in an outfit, it won’t look good, no matter how stylish it is.

Makeup Basics 101: Foundation and Primer

Over the last weekend, I spent some time organising my vanity when I realized just how much makeup I own. And if I’m really honest, I own a lot of it, so the simple task took a long time. But it got me thinking about how I built up my makeup collection over the years, trying new stuff and cherishing each item. What I suddenly remembered was that in my early years of learning and experimentation, what I was most clueless about was prepping my skin. Applying liner, lipstick and blusher were easier skills to hone, but skin correcting bases always made me nervous.

“What foundation should I buy?”  “Do I really need a primer?”  “What does it really do?” Such questions plagued my mind often. In a few years of regular makeup usage though, I mastered the art of skin prepping too. I tried out all kinds of foundations and primers to understand what works best for me. But I know that many a times, women, especially makeup novices, tend to struggle with this. So, I decided to write a long, comprehensive post on the various types of foundations and primers available out there and what they do. Read on and find out!

(A peek into my makeup stash)

Foundations-and-primer

Foundation

Foundation is a makeup product for the skin which is supposed to even out skin tone and provide light to heavy coverage for skin flaws (like blemishes, spots, etc). Since everyone has a different complexion in terms of gradient, texture and clarity, you need to be very careful in choosing a foundation that complements your skin. Using one that doesn’t exactly complement your skin tone and type can completely ruin your entire look, no matter how well you have done up your eyes or lips, etc.

So, you should know which kind of foundation is good for you in terms of its base, form and sun protection factor (SFP). In terms of ingredient base, you have water-based, oil-based and silicone-based products to choose from. You can go in for liquid formulations or powder foundations in terms of form. And of course, there are both SPF-containing and non-SPF varieties too. Here is a brief introduction to what all this categorization means.

makeup-foundations

But Before you read all that do remember to:

  1. User Primer for a good foundation coverage
  2. Try to use silicone based foudation with silicone based primer and water based foundation with water based primer.
  3. But sometimes when the foundation is not too heavy you can get away with using a silicone based primer with a water based foundation but the key thing to remember is to test this before hand
  4. You can get medium to light coverage from a heavy foundation by mixing primer in the foundation

Ingredient Base

As the cosmetics industry grows and expands, newer formulations are being introduced in the market. However, before you can even attempt to understand those hybrid varieties, you need to get your basics right. Primarily, there are three ingredient bases – oil, water and silicone – that are used in foundations. Here’s some insight into what they’ll do for you:

Oil-Based Foundations

The most primitive form of skin-coverage cosmetics, oil-based foundations have been around for a long time. Though they have lost much of their popularity to water-based products, professional makeup artists still rely on these a lot. Such foundations are prepared by adding pigments to an oil or emollient based formulation and naturally, these products then have a thicker consistency and dense, heavy feel. High quality oil-based foundations are largely so waterproof and do not cake though cheaper variants may not be so kind to your skin.

In terms of application, oil-based foundations are tricky due to their dense viscosity. Use even a small amount and it feels heavy on the skin. If you try to use a wet sponge or diluted product, chances of streaking are high. Having said that, oil-based foundations have their own pros. One is that they offer the most opaque coverage to flaws, hydrate very dry skin and also hide wrinkles effectively.  Keep in mind though that oil-based formulations may change colour if worn for very long due to oxidising of ingredients; this can give your face a darker, orange-ish hue.

Water-Based Foundations

The core ingredient in water-based foundations is water and not oil or emollient though either of the latter may still be an active ingredient in the product. The combination of water and oil as base gives such products are moderately thin in consistency and a less heavy feel on the skin. Some variants are water-based and oil-free too, and you may go in for these if you have extremely oily skin. Most women go in for simple water-based foundations though, for they suit the widest spectrum of normal to dry and even combination skin.

Given the relatively thin consistency of such products, water-based foundations blend beautifully and typically provide medium coverage, giving your face a natural look. You may use a moisturizer alongside depending upon how dry your skin is though for most women will do well with just the foundation. Good water-based foundations stay on for many hours without smudging, fading or streaking. These are the best option for novice makeup-users for there isn’t much to worry about really. The only thing is, oily skin appears shiny with usage of water-based products, unless you dab them with loose powder.

Silicone-Based Foundations

Silicone-Based Foundations use silicones or a combination of silicone and water as the main ingredient. The silicones assure a smooth texture and great viscosity, which typically gives an even finish. Generally available in creamy or liquid-y form, silicone-based foundations are popular with makeup artists who can use them effectively to hide flaws like large pores, dark pigmentation and so on. These are best suited for those with normal to dry skin, since silicone is a sealant and does not allow moisture to escape. Naturally, these aren’t the best option for oily-skinned beauties.

During application, silicone-based foundations blend extremely well and give you a flawless finish in terms of hiding skin flaws and uneven texture. The downside however is that if worn for very long, silicone-based foundations tend to settle into fine lines of the face, giving it a wrinkly finish. Also, it may settle into large skin pores and lead to acne breakouts on acne-prone skin. For those who do not have much experience with makeup, silicone-based foundations may be somewhat tricky. However, you can give them a shot if you want medium to heavy coverage and do not expect to be wearing them for too long.

Form

Foundations are widely available in two popular forms – as a liquid/cream or powder. Some people prefer to go in for the familiar liquid-y goodness while others like the impactful powder. Personal preferences aside, it is not their characteristics in isolation that determine which is better. Instead, it depends on the nature of your skin and the purpose of application that’ll determine what the better option is for you. Here is all you need to know about liquid and powder foundations.

Liquid Foundations

Most people are more comfortable using liquid foundations because they are more familiar and comforting. We have all used them or seen them being used at some point in time or the other. They are easier to blend into all nooks and crannies of your face as compared to powder foundations. They have more hydrating power and you may not need to use a moisturizer with liquid foundation. High end products won’t settle into fine lines, wrinkles and pores even, and you can choose the kind of coverage and finish you desire (light, medium or heavy coverage, matte, dewy or regular finish).

The only drawbacks of using liquid foundations are that you have to find one that is an exact match for your complexion. Also, you need to master the application technique so you do not end up with streaky makeup. With less advanced formulations, the chances of fading, smudging or discolouration exist are also a concern. All in all though, less experienced makeup users can trust liquid foundation to be the better bet since it is more forgiving than powder foundations; the scope of faux pas is less and that’s all a newbie can hope for.

Powder Foundation

Foundation in powder form is a relatively new formulation. While pressed powder has been used as a finisher to lock in foundation for a long time, it is only in the past two decades that powder foundation has been used for full coverage as a makeup base. The biggest advantages of powder foundation are its mattifying effect and staying power. You can whip this product out on hot days so this oil-soaking formula keeps your makeup intact. And that’s not all, powder foundation generally does not seep into your skin pores, thus reducing the chance of acne breakouts on acne-prone skin.

There are certain things to be worried about though. The first is that no matter how good you are at applying makeup, the finish with powder is almost always cakey. The more coverage you desire, the more unnaturally made up you’re going to look. Also, with many hours of staying power comes the negative effect of powder settling into fine lines, wrinkles and dry patches, thus making them more prominent as the day progresses. To avoid the cakiness, you can mineral powdered foundations for they tend to give a better finish. In conclusion, we may say that this kind of product is much more suitable for people with oily, acne prone skin, when applied for shorter periods of time.

Sun Protection Factor

In this day and age, almost no one can be ignorant of the evils of sun damage vis-a-vis one’s skin. In fact, more and more beauty products – from creams and lotions to wet wipes even – come with Sun Protection Factor or SPF. Some foundations have this too, while some do not. So what should you do? Are foundations with SPF a better option? Or could you do without them? Let me help you out here.

Foundations With SPF

Most reputed brands are now producing foundations that offer SPF. You should go in for products that promise at least SPF 15. When the SPF is this low, make sure you wear a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 underneath as well. Also, watch out for the label of “Broad Spectrum” on foundations. Products with SPF as well as broad spectrum protection will protect you against both UVB and UVA rays.

Non-SPF Foundations

Foundations that do not promise sun protection should be reserved exclusively for nightwear. If worn in the morning, they will leave your skin vulnerable to sun damage which can have dire consequences including skin cancer. If by chance, you have no other option but to use a non-SPF foundation in daytime, make sure you apply a strong sunscreen underneath. Non-SPF foundations are less expensive, yes, but not worth meddling with your skin’s health.

Primer

Face-primer

A lot of ladies are hesitant to invest in primers. The reasons are numerous, ranging from lack of awareness about exactly what they do to being unsure whether they are actually worth the investment. To dispel all doubts; primers are a kind of makeup base that is the first product to go on, even before your foundation. The purpose is to ensure that all subsequent products adhere to the skin better and last longer, throughout the day. The chief advantage of using a primer is that product usage in terms of foundation, eyeshadow, etc reduces. With the thinnest layer, effect is visible. In the long run, investing in a primer will thus lead to savings with lesser product usage!

There are several varieties of primers available today, distinguishable based on the finish the promise and their base ingredient. In so far as the finish goes, you can choose a mattifying, moisturising or glow primer. Other than that, you have water-based and silicon-based products to choose from. Now, one has to be careful in choosing their primer for its quality and finish will determine how the rest of your makeup comes on. Read on to find out more!

Finish

What do you want the final effect of using makeup to be? Do you want to reduce the oily, shiny look your face acquires after several hours of makeup? Does your skin crave hydration instead? Do you want a dewy or radiant finish? The final outcome will depend upon your choice of product. Choose intelligently and you can rest assured that your makeup will look infinitely better!

Mattifying Primers

These primers are basically meant to give your face a matte look that does not look greasy or shiny. People with oily skin will benefit highly from usage since mattifying primers soak up excess oil and even with layering of products, do not allow for excess sebum production. Those with normal to dry skin will find these primers to be dissatisfactory in terms of hydration and feel their skin is dry and stretched with usage.

Moisturising Primers

Primers that promise hydration are best suited for those with normal to dry skin. They infuse the skin with enough moisture to allow for seamless blending of makeup. They provide a smooth, supple canvas for you to layer products on, without the appearance of dry patches and visible streaking in a few hours. These primers can be used in place of moisturizers that dry-skinned beauties use underneath their foundation. These are not the best option for those having oily or combination skin.

Glow Primers

Glow primers are largely so suitable for all skin types. They give the face a well-hydrated glowy finish which brings out the pigments in your foundation, eyeshadow and blusher even. For someone who has no skin woes such as too much sebum production or very dry skin, glow primers are the best option. They do have a moderate hydrating effect too, so people with combination skin should also use them only when applying makeup for a short duration.

Ingredient Base

The core ingredient that goes into the making of a primer determines the manner in which your skin will respond to it and how makeup layered on it will look. There are many varieties available in the market today, though most are either water-based or silicone based. You should choose your primer based on your skin type as well as the effect you are hoping to achieve.

Water-Based Primers

Primers that use water as the first ingredient have a light, smooth finish and leave the skin feeling mildly hydrated. They are best for those who have combination to oily skin; such primers facilitate layering without the risk of your face becoming shiny and blotched over time. Foundations react well with water-based primers and adhere longer on the skin ensuring you are worry-free for many hours since you slather on makeup. If you have dry or normal skin, go in for a foundation that offers a dewy finish to ensure your skin doesn’t look dry and lacklustre.

Silicone-Based Primers

Silicone-Based Primers have a denser consistency and are best suited for those who want to hide flaws such as lines, wrinkles and pores. Silicones act a sealant and fill in the irregularities in texture on your face. Keep in mind though, that these are heavier on the skin and may not be suitable for those with oily skin. High quality silicone primers do not clog pores but it would be better if you reserved such products for times when the makeup is going to come off soon. Those with dry skin should pick these over water-based primers for better hydration.

Ah, now that was one long post. I tried to cover as much ground as I could with respect to foundation and primers. If you have any doubts or questions, feel free to ask!

My Make-up Bag This Month – April 2016

April is a bag of mixed weathers this year in UK with warm in the first half and the cold again, and the stuff in all our makeup bags naturally undergoes a change. And that’s exactly how it should be. The products you use should be suited to the weather outside and the changes are particularly demanding on our skin. So here’s a peek into my makeup bag and all the goodies I’ve been enjoying this month.

Makeup-bag-April2016

  1. MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation – This powder foundation is ideal for summer season. It has a mattifying effect, prevents oiliness and shine, and does not give a cakey appearance. I use it over my sunscreen on days when I don’t need too much coverage or otherwise team it with an SPF-rich liquid foundation.
  1. Rimmel London Scandaleyes Lycra Flex Mascara – What is life without a little bit of drama? And off late, I’ve enjoyed sporting dramatic eye makeup by using this “oversized volume mascara”. What I love about it is that all you need is one swipe and your lashes become thick and voluptuous, without becoming stiff or brittle.
  1. Clarins 50+ SPF Sunscreen For Face Wrinkle Control Cream – This is a wonderful product that offers a combo of sun protection and anti-ageing benefits. It has a high SPF rating yet doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on my skin. I’m very particular about keeping my skin sun-safe and this happens to be one of the best sunscreens I’ve used.
  1. L’Occitane “Lavande de Haute-Provence” Hand Cream – This is a lightly moisturising hand cream with a heavenly smell that is so soothing to the senses. I use it in the summer season for it is light on the skin, absorbs quickly and does not have a thick or buttery consistency which is best suited for winter-care.
  1. Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer (Garnet) – This is a recent purchase and has been working quite well for me. This lip lacquer is marketed as a gloss, but trust me, it can be easily substituted for lipstick too. It is highly pigmented, stays on for a 2 – 3 hours without touch-ups and has a hydrating, creamy formula. And this Garnet shade is beautiful – works for both day and night looks!
  1. Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes – Keeping wet wipes handy is a good idea during summer season. I use these ones by Simple for they are suitable for sensitive skin, thus having no harsh chemicals, strong perfume or alcohol base. On usage, these wipes do not dry out the skin, nor do they make it oily. A must-have for those sweaty mornings and sultry nights.
  1. A folding compact comb to keep hairs in check all day 🙂

So this is what I’ve been lugging around my makeup bag these days. What about you? Do share

8 Ways to Grow Hair Faster

Sponsored Post:

We all love long and healthy hair. Don’t we, and here is all will need to know to make sure you get the hairs you desire and also combat hair fall.  If you are facing the same issue, then here are simple remedies that will solve your problem. Adopt these easy practices in your daily routine and get remarkable results:

4-guidelines-for-stronger-hair-1-size-3

  1. Trim : Are you missing your haircut appointments in anticipation that your hair will grow? This is incorrect. Frequent trims will make your hair grow faster because trimming chops off the dead hair and eliminates split ends. Get rid of split ends as they are one of the major causes of hair breakage.
  2. Brush before Bed: Brush your hair before you go to sleep at night. This is a vital trick for hair regrowth. Comb your hair well with a boar bristle brush around the scalp. This will help to evenly spread the natural oil on the hair and keep it moisturized throughout the night.hair-wash
  3. Wash with Care: Manage the delicate tresses with care while washing. It is advisable to comb them before a wash. Do not wash them daily. Shampoo them two or three times a week and use conditioner, too. Never use very hot water for washing your hair and always rinse it with cold water. Do not wrap wet hair in a towel. Dry them softly. Finally, comb them once dried.
  4. Oil and Massage: One of the best home remedies for hair regrowth is to oil your scalp and keep it healthy. Castor oil is rich in vitamin E and omega-9 fatty acids, which are essential to boost hair growth. Mix castor oil with coconut, lavender, almond, or rosemary oil and warm it to get the best results. Massage the scalp thoroughly and wash it after leaving the oil for around 45 minutes.
  5. Flip the Hair: Flip all the hair in front and face towards the ground. Stay there for a couple of minutes. Follow this every day. It will enhance the circulation and promote faster hair.
  6. Change the Pillowcase: Do you see a lot of hair on your pillow in the morning? Changing the pillowcase is a good hair fall treatment. Use a satin or a silk pillowcase. It avoids tangles and friction, and thus reduces breakage.
  7. Do Not Over-style: Styling and heating tools damage the hair strands and restrict hair growth. Reduce the frequency of usage. Do not set the heating tool at a high temperature. If you are using a blow-dryer, then ensure that you coat your hair with a protective styler.

Now you know how to increase hair growth naturally. Follow these steps every day and fulfil your dream of having long and healthy hair. Find more hair care tips at www.rewardme.in

Hair Smoothening Treatment – How to do it right

Sponsored Post:

Maintaining and managing frizzy hair can be infuriating. Hair smoothening treatments can help people who struggle with this hair type.

Hair Smoothening

Our hair is made up of amino acids, which are basically the building blocks of proteins. Keratins are the main protein in hair and they contain long sequences of amino acids. These typically form a helical structure and coil around each other. Cysteine is one such amino acid that helps form these connections with other coils. The more connections or interactions, the more tightly coiled the hair becomes, giving you curly hair.

Hair smoothing or smoothening is a process in which different types of solutions may be applied to the hair, breaking down those natural bonds of cysteines. Once these natural bonds are broken, the hair is then artificially set and given its structure with a flat iron.

hair-washHair smoothening is often confused with hair straightening. While both treatments give you smooth and manageable hair, straightening leaves hair poker-straight while smoothening gives it a more natural appearance. Chemicals used in smoothening hair make them tangle-free, and any effects of straightening will only be temporary. It is ideal for people who have naturally straight or slightly wavy hair that is problematic because of frizziness.

Hair Smoothening at a Salon

The entire process lasts for about an hour and includes the following stepshair

  • Before your stylist applies the chemical rebonding agent, he/she will wash, condition, and then blow-dry your hair.
  • The rebonding agent, which is usually in the form of a cream, will then be applied evenly on the hair. This will be left on for close to half an hour.
  • The solution will then be washed off and your hair will be straightened with a ceramic hair straightener. This will not only help to straighten the hair, but also increase the effectiveness of the treatment.
  • After this, another cream will be applied across the hair and left on for close to twenty
  • The hair will then be washed and blow-dried to give you the final touches.

Useful Tips

A smoothening treatment rebonds your hair. For best results, keep in mind the following tips for three days after your treatment:

  • Do not tie your hair or tuck it behind the ears as these could leave a long-lasting curved
  • Avoid washing or wetting your hair
  • Let your hair remain as straight as possible while you sleep

If you would like to try out the procedure, make it a point to visit a reputed salon, where they use only high-quality products. Likewise, if you wish to experiment with hair smoothing at home, only buy products from the best brands and make sure to adhere strictly to instructions. A good hair smoothening product can certainly work wonders for your hair.
