I know that for a lot of us, sugary treats are the ultimate enemy. But we also know that sweet indulgences are the best moments of our lives. Which is why, the grand opening of the Treat Kitchen in Coventry has me all excited and raving.
For those of you who don’t know of this local English confectionary retailer – I can only say, you’re missing out! The Treat Kitchen is a family run business, based out of Nottingham and rapidly expanding on account of its roaring success. So far, they had shops on their home turf, as well as in Leicester Highcross and Intu Derby. But now – God bless their kind, sweet souls – they are also opening a shop in West Orchards, where they’ll dish out their delicacies to nearby folk.
Their menu boasts of 300 hundred varieties of sweets, chocolates, handmade cream, fresh fudge and innumerable mouth-watering delights. I have tried several of them and trust me, I was in saccharine Heaven! The first treat I got to taste was their Diddy Pear Drops. It is part of their collection of Traditional Boiled Sweets which are made using the age-old English way in copper boiling pans. Fresh, juicy and incredibly flavoursome, these Diddy Pear Drops took me back to my childhood when I loved munching on this lovely tropical fruit. Next, I attacked a sweet they call Coconut Mushrooms. It is part of their Sweet Shop Heroes range where the classic candies that have been cherished for generations are given a new life. But the most fun-filled experience was munching on the bunch of Radioactive Sours I got! And these sour treats totally live up to their name. A shockingly sour chewy exterior, with sweetness within to counter the delightful assault on your taste-buds; what more could I want! These Radioactive Sours are the equivalent of a rollercoaster ride, only for your tongue – the kind of crazy ride you want to be on again!
Now, having tasted the Treat Kitchen’s gobsmacking goodies, I can’t wait for their new store to open in Coventry. Mark the date, you all – August 27 is the day. And here’s a little bit of inside info – the Lord Mayor of Coventry is going to be there to cut the ribbon and open the doors to sugary yumminess.
I can already feel that I’m going to skip breakfast that morning and go indulge myself once the store opens. I love sweets and am an unabashed romancer of candied goodness. So, my trips to the Treat Kitchen are going to be rather frequent. What about you? Ready to try some delicious, bite-sized candied?
