Ladies, let me be really honest with you: I am the most comfortable in my trusty jeans and fuss-free tees. In fact, I have had a soft spot for both basic and funky t-shirts ever since I can remember and I am perpetually on the hunt for the perfect white V-neck. Of course, I totally understand that tees are not appropriate everywhere and sometimes, you need to spice them up to make the look more fun and flirty. So, without further ado, here are my favourite ways to dress up a t-shirt!
With A Statement Necklace
One of the easiest ways to add some extra oomph to an ordinary t-shirt is to pair it with an eye-catching necklace. Plus, I absolutely love the juxtaposition of a laidback tee with a glamorous necklace – it makes for the perfect edgy look and is an easy way to instantly up the ante. Chunky jewellery is all the rage right now so head over to your local high street to snag some baubles for yourself!
With A Printed Scarf
If jewellery is not your thing or you simply do not feel like sporting heavy embellishments, a printed scarf is a wonderful way to add some fun to your t-shirt. Since summer is approaching, I would recommend opting for scarves that are made from light cotton material. This season, I am really feeling pastel prints, as pastels are one of the hottest trends for summer. I have also noticed that scarves with unique prints make for great conversations starters – I’ve lost track of how many times I have been approached with the question, “I love your scarf! Where is it from?”
With A Cute Skirt
I mentioned before that the classic combination of a pair of jeans with a good old t-shirt is my favourite; however, I strongly believe that jeans are not always the best companions to tees. In fact, switching out the denim for bottoms that are more chic makes for a bold, stylish look. I love the combination of a tomboyish t-shirt with a feminine skirt. Lately, I have been pairing my graphic print t-shirts with flowing midi skirts for an easy, sophisticated look. Ideally, look for bottoms that are textured for an interesting combination.
With A Jacket
When the weather and/or occasion call for it, throwing a jacket over your t-shirt is a great way to take your look from common to chic. I always find that boyfriend blazers paired with tees make for a very classy look that is extremely versatile and can be worn from day to night. Feel free to experiment with jacket options over your tees – depending on the weather, I like to pair mine with leather jackets, woollen cardigans and structured pieces as well. During the summer time, you could throw on a bohemian waistcoat as well.
