Easy Aloo Tikki Recipe at home

Aloo Tikki is a North Indian street food made with a mixture of boiled & grated potatoes, peas, and spices. Here is my Aloo Tikki recipe.

aloo tikki

Aloo Tikki also known as Aloo Patties is  a crispy and delicious street food that is a comfort food for almost every Indian out there. Its crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside texture makes it one of the most popular chaats in India. Every time I have Aloo Tikki, its unique flavours take me back to the good old days. If you love street food, checkout my Pav Bhaji recipe here.

Aloo tikki recipe

It is a North Indian street food that is made with a mixture of boiled & grated potatoes, peas, and spices. It is super-easy to make at home and can be enjoyed in a number of ways. One can make a burger or aloo chaat with it or have it with chole ki sabzi. I personally love to have it with green & red chutney. In the traditional recipe, the tikkis are deep fried or shallow fried, but I like giving my own healthy touch to the recipes, so I make them in the oven. They come out just as yummy & tasty and I can enjoy them without getting off track my health goals. Here is my healthy Aloo Tikki recipe.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Grater

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Boiled Potatoes
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp. Coriander Powder
  • 1 tbsp. Roasted Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tbsp. Chaat Masala
  • 1 small bowl Chopped Coriander
  • 1 small bowl Boiled Peas
  • 1 small bowl Cornflour
  • 2 tbsp. Oil
  • 1 tbsp. Red Chili Powder or Chopped Green Chilli (optional)
  • Bread Crumbs (for coating)

Instructions

  • Peel the boiled potatoes and grate them using a grater.
  • To the grated potatoes, add salt, coriander powder, chaat masala, cumin seeds, chopped coriander, boiled peas and cornflour.
  • Mix everything together using a spoon and then mash it using hands to make a dough-like mixture.
  • Put a foil paper in the baking tray and then coat it nicely with oil.
  • Take some potato mixture, and using the hands make ball-sized tikkis.
  • Roll the tikkis in breadcrumbs until they are covered nicely and place them on the baking tray. Repeat this step for the entire mixture.
  • Once all tikkis are placed on the baking tray, bake them in the oven for 35 minutes at 200 C.
  • When the tikkis are golden brown in colour take them out.
  • Your tikkis are ready. Serve them hot with chutney of your choice. I like them with coriander & mint chutney and tomato ketchup.

Notes

  • Let the boiled potatoes cool or boil them a day before as it helps the tikkis to bind better.
  • For more flavour, add onion, garlic and ginger powder.
