Hotel Du Vin, York – Yorkshire Hotel Review and Travel Diary

One would think that staying at manor houses and mansions was only possible in a setting of an Agatha Christie’s book; Mysterious Affair at Styles. But I was in for a breath-taking surprise when I was invited to the Hotel Du Vin York to visit their property that was tucked away in the Mount Area, very close to the city centre of Yorkshire.

We reached the property around 2 p.m.; as soon as I entered the hotel building, it gave me a feeling of an old world charm of high ceilings that is typical of the classical 19th-century architecture and some contemporary soothing decor of leather upholstery. After checking in, we wandered out to the quaint village outlet for shopping and then to the Christmas market to simply absorb all the Christmas cheer.

We came back to our extremely spacious rooms which had sprawling custom made beds, complete with hand-sprung mattresses, soft Egyptian cotton duvets and fluffy pillows that were inviting meyou to roll all over them like a kid simply! But, there was more room to explore in the room.

The room had an open plan tub, big enough to sleep in and comfortable enough to have your meal in. There was an option of a monsoon shower as well, for those of us who do not like to wallow in a bubble bath. To my utter delight, the little toiletries were from the house of Ren, which only use 100% plant and mineral derived actives. After a relaxing bath, I snugged into one of their soft Egyptian cotton bath robes that are as fluffy as cotton candy and if in mood for a quick snack or drink, I could just head over to the mini bar which is stocked with different liquor brands and yummy snacks. The best part is that the room has a unique decor, which makes me look forward to the whole experience so different to the bigger hotel chains where the décor in the rooms is sometimes too impersonal to make one feel relaxed or at home.
Later in the evening, we headed over to their in-house bar for a drink, to relax. For dinner, we headed to their Bistro which had a very earthy warm decor of dark wooden floors, restored fireplaces, paintings and soft lighting making it a perfect setting for a relaxing evening. Now comes my favourite part of food and drinks.
I was very impressed with their selection of wines, and we were recommended a perfect wine to go with your meal. To my surprise, the a-la carte was equally delightful for a vegetarian like me and a non-vegetarian like my husband. My husband ordered some seafood which had combined the taste of some freshly caught fish cooked slowly with some of their homemade mayonnaise, shallot vinegar sauces and condiments. Vegetarians like me did not have to fret because they had fresh green Super food kale salads, Tomato Consommé for starters and baked sweet corn and courgette cakes in the main course. All their food was cooked in a beautiful French home-style cooking enhanced with some traditional British flavours. Coupled with beautiful presentation and perfect wine, the meal was most satisfying for all the senses.
Next day, was beautiful in every aspect.Starting with breakfast which was simply out of the world. I was felt spoilt for choice with a wide range of fresh yummy goodies laid out on the country table that included freshly squeezed juices in cute small bottles, quirky mini jars of natural yoghurt porridges, baked pastries, and homemade granolas. After digging into some continental bits, we ordered the traditional cooked breakfast and a serving of poached eggs and avocado. As they say, breakfast should be fit for a King and it was fit for so many Kings!

We checked out of the hotel and headed out to the city of York to enjoy the rest of the beautiful day that included a visit to the York Minister which is Northern Europe’s largest Gothic Cathedral, a medieval castle that took us back to the Roman and Viking era, the old railway museum and last but not the least some little street shopping that always comes in handy to make us merry with Christmas round the corner.

Even though we stayed only for one night, we were blown away by the old manor charm coupled with modern luxuries and the outstanding service that Du Vin had to offer. If you are looking for a comfort, style and a bit of old school romance head to Du Vin York, I am sure you would not be disappointed.

Resorts World Birmingham – A perfect destination for a day out or date night

Recently I was invited by the Resorts World in Birmingham, one of the perfect leisure destinations in town to experience a spread of their bars, restaurants, spa services, cinema, hotel and fashion labels like H&M, GAP, Next, Nike and so on.

Located near the Birmingham Airport and NEC (National Exhibition Center), Resorts World is a great place when to visit if you are in town for an exhibition or business meeting or don’t want to drive into the hustle bustle of Birmingham for a fun time. It is also a perfect destination for a day out with family, friends or a date night since the mall has so many food, shopping and fun activities.

The mall has a host of options from shops such as Phase Eight, Windsor London, Northface and many more, to eating outlets like Costa Coffee, Nandos, Pizza Express, Andy Waters, Sky Bar, Robata Bar & Grill, Las Iguanas and more.

The Genting Hotel is a good option to spend the night if you have to take a flight next day. They even have a children’s play area so it’s a great place to be with your kids too. But the best part about the property is that it is a lakeside property, it is located next to the Pendigo Lake which gives adds a very serene and calm look.

I started my day with a cup of hot coffee at Costa Coffe and then went on to have a relaxing time at the Santai Spa in the Genting Hotel. I was totally pampered with their services like head massage, facial, and facilities like heated pool, hot bed and outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake.

After my de-stressing spa experience I went with my husband for a date to Robata Bar and Grill for High Tea. Robata is a luxurious fusion restaurant which serves Pan-Asian Delicacies. I had an evening filled with delicious beverages and mouth-water dishes. Then we ended the day with a movie at Cineworld.

Since there is so much to do there you can begin your day with a relaxing spa, have high tea in Robata Bar and Grill and end your day by trying your luck at the Genting Casino. If you don’t want to spend the entire day at Resorts World, then you can also visit with your friends for some retail therapy and a brunch since they have a lot of yummy food options to choose from.

It’s also a great place to visit with your family. You can have lunch at one of the eateries, take your kids to Hamley’s or the play area, watch a movie at Cineworld and end the day.  Apart from this they also have offers and themes running around the year so it’s a good location to go and visit again and again.

Robata Bar & Grill – Resorts Worlds- High Tea Experience

Recently I indulged in the High Tea Experience at Robata Bar and Grill at Resorts World, Birmingham. It is a fusion Asian themed restaurant with a breathtaking view of the Pendigo Lake. With high ceilings and full-length glass windows with a lake view, the minimalistic décor is cozy and elegant with a serene and calm ambience which goes well with the cuisine and experience they have tried to create. What’s different about this place is the great fusion menu of European, Australian and Pan-Asian delicacies which compliments the unique and delicate beverage options. I went for the high tea experience with my husband as a date. The food, the atmosphere, and the ambience made it a memorable experience which I wanted to share with you all.robata-bar-1The high tea comes at the cost of £19.50 for the non-alcoholic option and £24.50 with cocktails per person. They also have champagne and other options available. The menu is extensive and has a right balance of sweet and savory bites with a Pan Asian twist to the delicacies.

FIRST WAVE – Served with Ginger and Lemon Iced Tea

• Robata Grilled Chicken Yakatori Tender pieces of chicken thigh in a fragrant soy marinade
• Prawn and Tofu Ball Minced king prawn and tofu with chilli and ginger in a panko bread crumb coating
• Duck Long Bao Shredded Cantonese duck leg with hoisin wrapped in a soft steamed bun

robata-bar-4 SECOND WAVE – Served with your choice of Nespresso coffee or Newby of London tea

• Avocado Maki Roll Traditional soft rice wrapped in nori and filled with avocado and wasabi
• Squid Ink Tapioca Cracker with Beetroot Cured Salmon and Grapefruit Crisp tapioca cracker with beetroot cured salmon and grapefruit gel
• Yuzu and Lime Curd Tartlet Graham cracker tart filled with sweet yuzu lemon and lime curd
• Hazelnut and Chocolate Delice A rich hazelnut and chocolate layered mousse cake glazed with fine chocolate
• Spiced Strawberry Trifle Layered trifle with compressed intense strawberries and spiced biscuit crumb
• Orange Scone with Orange Curd Orange blossom scone with orange curd

I am a vegetarian so the first wave options which are offered for the high-tea could not be consumed by me. But when I told them about this, the staff brought out a special alternative first wave options for me and they were heavenly. They also do make special alternatives for people who may be allergic to certain types of food items. So don’t be disappointed if you can’t have a few options on the menu.robata-bar-2

We enjoyed the high tea experience at this venue. Out of the tantalizing spread of delicious food and beverages, I really enjoyed the ginger and lemon ice tea. It was divine, refreshing and flavorsome. I also loved their dimsums and cocktails. From the second wave of sugary treats I enjoyed the Hazelnut and Chocolate Delice and Yuzu and Lemon Curd Tarlet. They were rich, succulent and, unlike any other dessert I’ve ever had. Since the second wave of the course is filled with sugary goodness, the Nespresso coffee, and the Newby tea are perfect accompaniments. The coffee is a bit strong and bitter which balances out the sweetness from the desserts. The tea is light, refreshing and flavorful since it has loose tea leafs which is just wonderful. And the best part about the whole experience is the fresh, handcrafted food.robata-bar-birmingham-1

Overall it was an evening well spent. I loved the atmosphere and the attentiveness of the staff. I also liked that fact that this is not like a standard English high tea experience with sandwiches and pastries in the menu. What makes this experience unique is the fusion of Asian food into the high tea. Even if you are not a tea person, there are numerous other options you can choose from.robata-bar-3I highly recommend the high tea at Robata Bar & Grill. It’s a must try experience even if you have tried high tea before, as it’s very different from the others.

Shoes I Can Wear All Day Long

Have you ever faced any of those days where you have to meet your friends for a casual brunch and then head to the office for some work. Dressing up for such days can be a little tricky. You don’t want to look out of place at any of those occasions. So I styled an outfit which is perfect for a girl’s day out and office wear. This is a chic style which take can you from brunch to beyond.hotter-shoes-1-3hotter-shoes-1-5

I paired a black full sleeves blouse with a bow neck along with a classic pair of dark blue skinny jeans and a statement bag. Tuck it in with a plain black belt, and you are good to go for work. For a presentation or a meeting, you can also tie up your hair for a more formal look. For a brunch or a day out with your girls, you can keep it casual by keeping the blouse tucked out, throw on some basic makeup and style your hair in beachy waves. This outfit is also appropriate for autumn. There is some light breeze, and it gets a little cold by the evening, so the full sleeves and boots come in handy.hotter-shoes-1-6The most important aspect of any outfit is comfort and he most comfortable thing about my outfit was the boots. Well you might think I am trying to sell the shoes here, but no that is what I said to my hubby dear after walking in London for more than 15 km in a day “I can wear these shoes all day long.”hotter-shoes

I got these boots from Hotter.com, who design and make all types of shoes for both men and women. The boots were brand new and even without breaking into these they were extremely comfortable. Generally, for most shoes, you need to break into them to make them comfortable and avoid any shoe bites. The first few time you are bound to get some sores or bruises. That is why I even carry Compeed in my bag, which I usually use when I am out in heels walking all day long or have bruises from new shows. But I honestly didn’t feel the need to swap, not with these new babies. I wore these shoes all day long and still no ache or no discomfort.hotter-shoes-1-4I rank them highly on comfort which is a winner and will make you wear your shoes again and again. It’s been two weeks since I have had them and it is only by force or them not matching with the outfit that I have to wear something else. These boots are perfect for the season as they keep my feet nice and warm. Plus they are super comfortable and snuggly.

Things To Help You Make The Most Of Your Garden This Autumn

Now that the autumn season has kicked in, pumpkin is in the air, sweet scents, and new gardening projects are just around the corner for homeowners. But, for those who want to make the most out of their garden and want it to truly bloom, regardless of weather, there are a few simple things you can do when planting and caring for the garden, to ensure this is the case. Consider some of these tips to make the most out of the garden space, and truly create an area you are going to enjoy for your home.

Know your zone
Yes, it is important to know the zone you are gardening and planting in. Not only so you choose plants and trees which can grow there, but also to ensure they can thrive through cooler months, with limited sunshine. Making sure you know what to plant, how to plant, and where to plant it, will allow you to develop an excellent gardening area, and one which will thrive, even during the colder months ahead.

Mulch
Perennials remain dormant, protect roots and bulbs, help keep freezing at bay. Yes, simply adding fresh mulch and properly caring for it when cultivating your autumn garden, will help it thrive. Due to the limited growth, limited water production, and plants which require moisture during this season, mulch is essential for your garden’s success. Add it regularly, properly care for it, and ensure it is evenly spread during these months of the year when planting.

Choose the right veggies
With colder weather, you also have to choose the right items to plant. Collards, mustard greens, and darker, leafy greens, are the ones which will typically thrive during the colder months. Root veggies, such as beets, are also a great option for you to add to your garden during this season. Avoid items like tomatoes, fruity or scented veggies, as they can’t survive the colder months or frost which is sure to pop up at some point in time or another during the winter months.

Tilling
If you live in areas where frost and snow are eventually going to show up, make sure you perform proper tilling regularly. Choose mulch and grass which remain dormant and do not grow during the season. Not only so you don’t have root build up, but also to avoid the “dead” growth in the garden. It will also help in preventing the soil which is below the surface from freezing, and potentially killing out the entire harvest you have cultivated during the autumn months when you choose these dormant soils and fertilizers during the season.

Hosting friends

If you are planning on hosting a few friends at your house this autumn then why not make the most of your garden. Garden parties have become quite popular since more and more people have started to buy fire pits for the colder months of the year. Fire pits are great to sit around with your friends and family and toast a few marshmallows. With bonfire night and Halloween approaching a fire pit would be a brilliant addition to your household. If you would like to look at a few fire pits then gardenflame.co.uk is a good place to start.

Of course every garden is going to differ a bit, especially depending on the zone where you live and plan to do your planting and gardening in. But, with these things in mind, anyone can have a garden which thrives during the season. These are a few simple tips anyone can follow, which are sure to help your garden thrive, and allow you to enjoy this hobby, even during the colder months of the year to come.

Coventry Calls: 10 Funs Things To Do Here!

War Memorial Park

Those who follow my blog probably realize that I absolutely love vacationing. New places, new people, new cultures; they excite me. But having travelled far and wide, I’ve come to realize that sometimes, you don’t need to go miles and miles away to find fun and excitement. You could find them right where you live!

Coventry Cathedral

Now you would think that since Coventry isn’t a particularly touristy town, there couldn’t be too much to do here. But I’ve been living here for sometime now and I’ve discovered some great pleasures that lie within. And that’s why, even as I was previously living in bustling London and I miss it sometimes, I have now discovered all the fun things to do in Coventry and here’s a list of them for you!
Before I get into specifics though, I need you to understand exactly what Coventry is all about. It’s a charming township that has seen many ups and downs in the past. The tragic legacy of the World War bombings lives on even today. The industrial sector, premised mostly on automobile production, is also an important part of the city’s identity. Most notably, Coventry’s local population is simple and compassionate. What’s not to love about this place?

Coventry Cathedral Night View

So, if you ever stop by here, and I would strongly recommend that you do, these are all the fun things to do in Coventry.

  1. Fargo Village – Anybody who loves unique, handcrafted exhibits and endless possibilities for shopping, Fargo Village is an experience you must treat yourself to. It is a brilliant creative space where talent from all over the country gathers to showcase their artworks, foods, music and so on.
  2. Godiva Festival – Music lovers will also enjoy the Godiva Festival which lasts for three days, takes place in the fabulous War Memorial Park and is absolutely free for all! It usually takes place annually and if you enjoy such events, make sure you visit in sync with the festival dates.
  3. War Memorial Park – Now what’s so great about a park you ask? This one is Coventry is so much more than just a memorial tribute to the local lives lost in WWII. It is now a place where lots of sports, festivals and leisure activities are enjoyed by locals as well as visitors.
  4. Coombe Abbey – This is a lovely hotel to be staying at, but I’ve always felt that dining here is another experience altogether. You can enjoy the gardens and the lake-view before sampling their delicious food. This is fine dining Heaven!
  5. Belgrade Theatre – This one is for the culture vultures who love live performances. A historic Coventry landmark that hosts regular live shows, this is where you go for an evening of entertainment and intellectual stimulation.
  6. Ricoh Arena – Sports lovers flock to this stadium complex where the adrenaline is high and no moment is boring. But this is not just for the sporty folks alone, since watching a game here is an experience that is exciting and entertaining in equal measure.
  7. Kenilworth Castle – This historical site is a great place for a day outing, especially when the weather is good. A little outside Coventry, this castle has many interesting stories attached to it. Visit if you have a fascination with royal households and their many secrets.
  8. Coventry Cathedral – Also known as St. Michael’s Cathedral, this site has many stories of its own to tell. From the ruins of the medieval church which collapsed during WWII bombings, to the cathedral erected later, Coventry Cathedral is an architectural marvel and important cultural symbol.
  9. Herbert Art Gallery and Museum – Those interested in the history of local art and culture should definitely stop here. Its huge collection of paintings, sculptures and artefacts from different time periods is truly exquisite. Tourists tend to be fascinated by the rich interiors and unique exhibits.
  10. Coventry Transport Museum – This museum is a car-enthusiast’s paradise! Since Coventry was the epicentre of Britain’s motor industry for many decades, it has a wealth of vintage exhibits that would delight any automobile-lover. Best part is, entry is absolutely free!
City Center

And that’s not all. Coventry allows for easy access to tourist mega-sites such as NEC Birmingham and Resort World. The best part about our little town is that it’s not as crowded as the bigger cities of England; you’ll get to enjoy the famed English green environs and visit all near and far tourist attractions. If you’re headed this way, don’t hesitate to get in touch for more ideas on what to do in Coventry!

Strawberry Picking – Summer Fun Activity for All

Pick Your Own Fruits – PYOF or PYOS – pick your own strawberry is a very popular British summer activity for families and kids. You go to farms who are open and welcome visitors for this activity and can pick your own fruit and vegetables fresh from the field. These usually include strawberries, raspberry, and so in summer that is in the mainly in the month of July and other fruits like blueberry towards the end of August or September.
Strawberry-picking-uk-1Generally the produce available and other details are listed on the website of various farms. Also, there are several farms in UK that one can visit.

Pick your own fruits holds nostalgic memories for many of us.  Earlier there were thousands of farms in the country but now only a few hundred remain. If you are someone who likes to know where their food comes from and look for seasonal and local produce then pick your own fruits is a perfect summer time activity for you. On a nice sunny day, you can enjoy the fresh crisp air and connect with the nature by picking seasonal delights like strawberries, raspberries, rhubarbs and blueberries in a wide, huge and open field.

It’s a great day out and one a fun and healthy activity for the entire family. We stay so cooped up in the city that a day out refreshes our senses and rejuvenates us all. It’s also a great activity for kids and a fun way to bring them close to the nature. The best part of the entire activity is that you get to take fresh fruits like strawberries back home and make yummy puddings, smoothies, jams and so on with it. Usually the farms provide baskets or containers to pick the produce. There are signposts to spot the crops. And you weigh the produce and are charged per kg for the fruit.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you going to a pick your own farm:

  1. When picking strawberries choose firm and fully red berries because strawberries don’t ripen after they have been picked.
  2. Make sure your feet or knees don’t damage the plants near the edge of the row.
  3. You can help the farmers by removing the defected or damaged berries by placing them in the mud. Because if they are rotten then the rot will spread to the other berries quickly as well.
  4. Try to consume berries immediately after they have been picked. If you plan to store them then try to pick them on a cloudy or cool day. Berries picked in the heat become bruised and soft easily.
  5. Place the picked berries in the shade of a tree or in your car to cool them after picking.
  6. You can store berries in the refrigerator for 2-3 days and maintain the freshness.

Have you visited any pick your own farms? Share your experience in the comments below.

Where Taste Meets Healthy Goodness! Luscombe Drinks – My Love!

If you follow my blog, you probably know that I’m a fitness enthusiast to the very core. I like to live a healthy lifestyle, which sometimes, given my busy schedule and numerous commitments, isn’t too easy.

But I manage to eat right, exercise and mediate on most days. It really helps that in this day and age, there are a lot of commercial initiatives that can aid your wellness goals. And Luscombe Drinks is one such production that brings you a sure step closer to good health and organic living.

Luscombe-Drinks Let me tell you a little bit about the Luscombe Drinks team. A family business that is the brain-child of Gabriel David, this company is known for their minimally-processed natural drinks, made from the finest fruits and flowers. I came across their soft drinks recently and fell in love with them.

I tried their Sicilian Lemonade, Strawberry Crush and Wild Elderflower Bubbly. The Sicilian Lemonade is this sharp, citrusy drink with a hint of vanilla that gives you an immediate kick. It makes for a great drink after a long, hot day in summertime. Strawberry Crush, on the other hand, is perfect for long, cool evenings. Its sour-sweet taste is a tangy mood-setter and complements salty snacks and hors d’oeuvre brilliantly. But my personal favourite is the Wild Elderflower Bubbly which is like a blast of flavour with just a hint of fizz. I have served it at parties and it has been a great hit – better than your average soda; yummier and more healthy even!
Luscombe-Drinks-2I believe that the reason Luscombe Drinks are so addictive is because the makers’ emphasize all too strongly on quality and taste. Their ingredients are sourced from the best of places and small batches are prepared in one go to maintain levels of freshness. Often, their drinks are sedimented too, so you know there are no additives at all. I’ve just tried three flavours so far but given how delicious they are, I’m sure the others taste absolutely yummy too.

I’m going to be trying new flavours as soon as possible and what’s best is, it’s a guilt-free indulgence. What’s better to snack on than natural beverages filled with fruity goodness? These soft drinks strike the right balance between taste and healthiness which makes them an ideal addition to my daily diet. I’m all for Luscombe Drinks now. What about you? Would you want to try?

Hey Sugar! Want Some Sweets? Head to The Treats Kitchen Grand Opening in Coventry

I know that for a lot of us, sugary treats are the ultimate enemy. But we also know that sweet indulgences are the best moments of our lives. Which is why, the grand opening of the Treat Kitchen in Coventry has me all excited and raving.
The Treat KitchenFor those of you who don’t know of this local English confectionary retailer – I can only say, you’re missing out! The Treat Kitchen is a family run business, based out of Nottingham and rapidly expanding on account of its roaring success. So far, they had shops on their home turf, as well as in Leicester Highcross and Intu Derby. But now – God bless their kind, sweet souls – they are also opening a shop in West Orchards, where they’ll dish out their delicacies to nearby folk.

Their menu boasts of 300 hundred varieties of sweets, chocolates, handmade cream, fresh fudge and innumerable mouth-watering delights. I have tried several of them and trust me, I was in saccharine Heaven! The first treat I got to taste was their Diddy Pear Drops. It is part of their collection of Traditional Boiled Sweets which are made using the age-old English way in copper boiling pans. Fresh, juicy and incredibly flavoursome, these Diddy Pear Drops took me back to my childhood when I loved munching on this lovely tropical fruit. Next, I attacked a sweet they call Coconut Mushrooms. It is part of their Sweet Shop Heroes range where the classic candies that have been cherished for generations are given a new life. But the most fun-filled experience was munching on the bunch of Radioactive Sours I got! And these sour treats totally live up to their name. A shockingly sour chewy exterior, with sweetness within to counter the delightful assault on your taste-buds; what more could I want! These Radioactive Sours are the equivalent of a rollercoaster ride, only for your tongue – the kind of crazy ride you want to be on again!
The Treat Kitchen 2Now, having tasted the Treat Kitchen’s gobsmacking goodies, I can’t wait for their new store to open in Coventry. Mark the date, you all – August 27 is the day. And here’s a little bit of inside info – the Lord Mayor of Coventry is going to be there to cut the ribbon and open the doors to sugary yumminess.

I can already feel that I’m going to skip breakfast that morning and go indulge myself once the store opens. I love sweets and am an unabashed romancer of candied goodness. So, my trips to the Treat Kitchen are going to be rather frequent. What about you? Ready to try some delicious, bite-sized candied?

Diaries – For That Perfect Personal Touch

Toad Diaries

Over the weekend, I decided to take a breather, rest a little and use free time to introspect. After a good night’s sleep, I realized that I needed a wee bit of fresh air to revive my spirits. I put on a comfy outfit, the all-important suntan and grabbed my favourite diary.

And once I made it to the park and began penning my thoughts in said diary, I was reminded of just how much I love it! I’ve always used diaries to keep track of all fashion stuff; my wishlists, blog ideas and so on – are all cataloged in a diary before I take action.

Off late, I’ve been using a customized diary from Toads Diaries UK. It has my name embossed on the cover leaf, which has a picture of the London skyline. I designed the diary for myself, choosing everything to my liking, from the cover to the pages and the size, etc.

You can order custom-designed diaries from www.toaddiaries.co.uk. They offer this wonderful service where you can choose exactly the kind of diary you want. There are options in terms of size, the type of paper, binding, cover leaf design and more! If you’re sick of typical, store-bought diaries that all look the same, check Toad Diaries UK out.

And it’s not just for personal usage that their stuff comes in handy. They take up orders for professional purposes and office stationery too. But you know what I think their customized diaries are best for? Gifting to a loved one! What’s more thoughtful than a diary that is tailor-made to one’s tastes and personal style? Anyone would love such a gift!

Now I’m thoroughly enjoying my Toad Diaries’ hardbound beauty. You go get yourself one too! Don’t forget to share your design with us when you do!

Divine Fragrances by Farringdon & Forbes

I have a question for you all. What’s your favourite way to unwind on a weekend? I’ll tell you mine – enjoying a home-spa session aided by Farrington and Forbes products!

“Home-spa session” may have you mystified. Yes, it’s something I do from time to time – turn my own bed and bath into a spalicious Heaven and rejuvenate my senses. And Farrington and Forbes has been my partner in crime for this. It is a UK based initiative that has been gaining much popularity in the recent past. They produce handmade-candles and diffusers using locally sourced ingredients and the finest crafting techniques. I am in love with their vanilla scented candles which smell heavenly and make me feel like royalty.
Farringdon-Forbes-2The company vision is to offer luxury at affordable prices. Environmental consciousness and support to local businesses come next in the list of their prerogatives. From personal usage to gifting to big events such weddings, corporate dos and more, Farrington and Forbes offers fragrances for everything. Even though the brand is just 8 months old, they have been quite successful in creating a sizable customer-base. This is primarily because once you have been exposed to their exquisite products, you just cannot settle for something lesser!
Farringdon-ForbesThough there are dozens of reasons to love Farrington and Forbes fragrance collections, I’m a loyal customer now for 3 reasons. One, the quality of their products is significantly superior. They use only 100% soy wax and hand-pouring techniques to create their marvellous candles. Their fragrances are made with combinations of organic essential oils to create authentic, rich fragrances. The second reason is that Farrington and Forbes sources all its ingredients from local producers to ensure freshness and quality, as well as give the smaller businesses a small boost. Finally, their offer of 10% discount to customers who bring back the empty glass bottles from previous purchases is also great. Can you imagine an easier way of contributing to recycling initiatives? I think not!

Given the pace at which Farrington and Forbes is growing, I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes an industry leader in years to come. They have already launched flower walls for wedding decoration and their products are being stocked in several spas, hotels and restaurants too! They were also acknowledged at the White Party and Safety in Beauty Awards held in Connaught Hotel, London. You can stop by their shop located in Resort World Birmingham and enjoy their products too. I promise you will not regret your visit!

Best Bouquets, Better Celebrations: Prestige Flowers Review

I have been meaning to write a post about the art of gifting for a while now. In my opinion, giving good gifts is a skill that you develop over time. What you present to a loved one should be a reflection of your own personality as well as their tastes. Simply put, your gifts need to be sophisticated, tasteful and appropriate for the person and occasion.
1-Prestige Flowers Recently, I received a bouquet from Prestige Flowers in my mail. You have no idea how delighted I was to receive such a gift. And it’s not just the unexpected delivery or the touching gesture that made me happy; it was a combination of the presentation, the arrangement and the exquisite flowers themselves that made it an ideal present.

I was so impressed by the bouquet that I immediately searched the company online. Unsurprisingly, Prestige Flowers is one of the market leaders in the flower delivery industry, with umpteen different products and services available to customers. From birthdays and anniversaries to corporate events and funerals, Prestige Flowers caters to all kinds of events and occasions. You can pick and choose your delivery time alongside selecting the size and type of floral arrangement that is perfect for your needs. What I love is that they do same day deliveries as well which is a life-saver for people like me, who often struggle to arrange for gifts at the very last moment.
1-Prestige Flowers-2If I am to be very honest, I have never seriously considered the option of online flower deliveries in the past. This is because I’m always concerned that since I haven’t seen what is being sent out, it won’t be up to the mark. However, having received the stellar products Prestige Flowers delivers, my fears have been put to rest. The flowers they sent me were beautifully packaged with a vase in which to prop them up. The stems were also of superior quality with absolutely no marks or wilting. They even lasted longer than the usual flowers I buy off the street.
1-Prestige Flowers-3And now, I’ve become a great proponent of Prestige Flowers and gifting through their service. It’s convenient and classy, and most importantly – a wonderful way to surprise someone. I can feel that I’m soon to be quite a loyal customer to them! What about you? Tips on Airport Fashion for Summer Travel

Airport-fashion-2

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a fabulous pair of shoes and a killer style. I love travelling but, sometimes deciding what to wear when travelling can sometimes be more exhausting than the journey itself. You may either look too dressed up or like you just got out of your bed and decided to take a holiday. When it comes to flight fashion I don’t like wearing tight clothing like skinny jeans as they make me uncomfortable, especially if it’s going to be a long journey. But at the same time, I also don’t prefer travelling in my pajamas as it looks too shabby. After checking out these Best Vacation Ideas articles I was really inspired to share a post about travel and airport fashion

  1. The flight dress – It’s comfortable, chic and stylish. Pair it up with slip on shoes and throw on a light jacket or a scarf to keep you warm when the air conditions gets too cold. The dress should be a casual dress which you can layer up or down easily.
  1. Totes: A tote is a perfect handbag for travelling. It’s big, fashionable and practical. Make sure your tote is big enough to pick up some last bits of shopping from airport or a book that you plan to read while travelling. A metallic finish tote would be the perfect accessory to sport when travelling.
  1. Scarf: I love to carry a scarf or head wrap to protect my hair and you can also wrap it around when you get cold or tie it around your neck in a double knot for a style statement.
  1. Denims: If you are someone who loves wearing denims then you can opt for a pair of boyfriend jeans as they are pretty loose and comfortable. Match them with a graphic tee, jacket and sneaker and you are good to go! If you don’t like wearing denims you can also wear a pair of joggers which are super comfortable and stylish at the same time.
  1. Tailored Pants: Tailored pants, blouse and a trench coat is a great combination if you have a professional dressing sense or are travelling for a meeting.

Basic Travel Tips:

  • Make sure your pair of footwear is comfortable. Avoid wearing high heels as you will have to walk quite a lot when travelling.
  • Carry some basic cosmetics like a blush brush, lip gloss, moisturizer, eyeliner, comb and dry shampoo. Dry Shampoo helps give a bounce to hair if you want to look presentable after a long flight.
  • Avoid wearing linen clothes as it gets crumpled easily.
  • Carry a good book or two depending on the length of the journey, headphones or any other form of entertainment you prefer.
  • Try to sleep for a bit, especially if it’s a long haul as it will help you adjust to the time zone and deal with jetlag.
  • Last but not the least, drink plenty of water to avoid water retention.
  • Bring you’re your sleep mask for a better sleep.

Practicing Yoga everyday makes one flexible and supple. Asanas such as Surya Namaskar involve comprehensive stretching of almost all the bones and muscles of the body. Regular practice tones up the muscles and imparts strength to them, and at the same time, improves the general body posture. Flexibility and correct posture ensure that a person gets rid of chronic muscular pain and related problems.

Natural Weight Loss1-Yoga-2Yoga comes up as a highly effective, natural and pocket-friendly method of weight loss, as compared to sweating out for hours in gym and spending a good deal of money too. Moreover, the weight loss achieved with Yoga is sustainable and keeps one in good health, besides making one fit.  Yoga even helps one control food cravings as it strengthens the control over body and mind.

Yoga not only heals disease but curbs it too. My Post-Pregnancy Fitness Regime-How I came back to shape after delivery!

Motherhood has been the most splendid phase of my life, yet the extra pounds it brought for my body had my excitement waning for the first few months post-delivery. Fortunately, I was able to resolve the problem as I unlocked the key to getting back to shape by framing a balanced fitness regime that worked for me. The results were so fabulous and quick that I had people asking my secret and I am more than happy to share.

Jogging-The Best Exercise
Jogging
My little bundle of joy makes sure that I have sleepless nights but I am very particular about my morning or evening jog as it not only helps me burn the calories but also de-stresses me after the long nights. One of the easiest exercises, jogging is super-effective for eliminating the stubborn post-partum fat and getting you back to your original shape. It also gives your lungs the much-needed oxygen ad relaxes your body and mind.

Gym-The Ultimate Fitness Destination
Besides my morning fitness spree in the park, I try to spend at least an hour in the gym 2-3 days a week. For me, mix and match of cardio and CrossFit worked as a great way to do it, as it added variety and made workout less boring. I started with a 20 minute session and gradually worked it up to 45mins to an hour a day, with warm up included. The idea is to bring the muscles back to shape and impart strength to the bones at the same time. I have been able to counter the post-partum issues like stress, depression and insomnia with the routine. My advice to new mommies is to consult their doctor for approval first, particularly if they have delivered through C-section.

Dance-Let your hair down!
Another amazing formula that helped me shed those stubborn post-delivery flab is something as amazing as shaking my leg a few minutes a day. Sometimes, those 15 minutes I spend dancing to my favorite song seems like the best time of the day. I make sure to steal this “me” time everyday between dirty diapers and unsterilized feeders and believe me, I love to do it!

“Smart” Lifestyle
For me, regaining my shape after the baby was a lesson for a lifetime, as I realized that I need to lead a balanced and healthy lifestyle to be fit in body and mind. I made some diet rectifications, such as eating fresh food rather than preserved ones, cutting down on sugar, oily food and alcohol. Drinking plenty of water, during workout and otherwise, is another tip I can give to fellow mothers as it clears toxins and suppresses appetite. I also perform some simple yogasanas that make my body supple and alleviate stress.
Yoga
The final word I have for new mommies is to be patient with their bodies and not punish them as rewards may come gradually but they will be there for sure. You just have to frame the right fitness regime as I have because everybody is made different and loses weight in a different manner.

#VacationShoppingGoals – My Holiday Wishlist

The holiday season is upon us and that calls for some shopping! I’m the kind of person who hunts for excuses to go out and explore the world of buyable things. And vacations are a pretty solid reason, so I’m quite excited around this time every year.
Vacation-Shopping-Wishlist
Mostly, I already have a wishlist prepared before the shopping spree begins. It helps me keep track of exactly what I want/need so I don’t get too carried away. It’s actually a great way to prevent too many impulse purchases and exceed my budget. So here’s what I want to treat myself to these vacations. Have a look for inspiration for your own Holiday Wishlists.

  1. Blue Reflectors – Everywhere I look these days, I spot someone wearing a pair of reflectors. And since it’s sunny enough for one’s sunglasses to be put to good use, I think I need to buy a new pair asap. I have a feeling it’s going to be blue reflectors! They’ll look great with casual outfits.
  2. POM POM Sandals – The boho-diva in me is quite active these days and I need to get my hands on some pom pom sandals. You know, the kind that have little fur/wool/rubber pom poms on them? They come in both ethnic and western styles and I need to decide which I’d prefer. Some help, please?
  3. Printed Shoes – I was going through my shoe-closet when I realized that it is full of mostly classic styles and colours. I want to stock up on more striking, bold footwear as well, especially for semi-formal wear. So I might pick up something from Jones Shoe Collection – they have a good collection of floral pumps!
  4. Wheeled Carry On Case – If one is travelling, there’s nothing more convenient than a wheeled carry on case. I have a few of course, but now I want something new. Perhaps in some pretty colour like pink or red. Don’t you just love it when people have interesting, colourful luggage?
  5. A Floppy Hat – Beach bags and hats are a match made in heaven. And I just realized that my mind is obsessed with the idea of a beach vacation! Whether I go on one or not is another thing, but a floppy hat will surely wind its way into my closet. Maybe I’ll get a lacy vintage hat – oh, that sounds so good!

These are the things I really want to buy for the holidays and not on the holidays.
What about you? Share your suggestions on how I could improve this list!

DIY Bedroom Decorating Ideas

My bedroom is my sanctuary – a place where I can escape from the chaos of the world, where I can unwind after a tiring day, where I can forget about your worries and where I can simply exist. Along with beautiful clothes, I have a penchant for beautiful spaces, so having a bedroom that looks good and therefore, makes me feel good, has always been important to me. I’ve come to realise that you don’t always need to splurge in order to make your bedroom look good – the smallest details and a little bit of creativity can make a world of difference.

Bedroom Decor

When it comes to creating a dreamy, inspirational space, fairy lights are your best friend. You can pick up a few strings of these lights from your local hardware store; they’re available in a host of colours and are usually priced very reasonably. You can use them in so many different ways – I’ve draped mine over the frame of my bed and I love the gorgeous glow that they bring to the room. You can also arrange them around the frame of your mirror, or carefully place them in a large glass jar to create a unique lamp.

Candles are another great way to bring some personality into your bedroom. You don’t have to opt for a pricey brand (though I do love a White Company candle from time to time, no lie!) There are so many inexpensive options available in the market, and you can find them in all kinds of shapes, shades, sizes and scents! I find that candles always make a room feel cosy and comfortable, which is exactly what your bedroom should be. Plus, you can tell so much about a person from the types of candles that they burn.

Another easy way to spruce up your space is to display some of your key (inexpensive!) jewellery pieces in a fun way. You can find a good range of jewellery holders at most homeware stores, or you can easily make your own with a slab of wood and a few quirky knobs. Hanging up a few of your favourite necklaces will not only spice up your room; it will also bring a smile to your face every time you enter it! Alternatively, you could pick up a quirky jewellery box to add some pizzazz to your dresser and creatively drape your necklaces in and around it.

Finally, it’s always a good idea to pick up some art, prints, posters or photographs. I’m not a fan of bare walls, especially in bedrooms. Dressing up your walls with a few frames is one of the easiest ways to bring your room alive. You don’t even have to invest in expensive art – you can easily snap up some cheap, eclectic prints from online stores like Etsy, or print out your own and get them framed. You could also create your very own Instagram wall by printing out your favourite ‘grams and using them to dress up a bare bedroom wall – a fun collage that is always a good trip down memory lane. You could do the same with Polaroids as well.

When it comes to bedroom décor, always ensure that whatever you choose to do is a reflection of who you are – just like fashion!
