Timeless Mother of the Bride Gowns

While the trend has its roots in commercial wedding fashion, the Mother of the Bride (MOB) gown has become a staple fashion piece in traditional weddings. These gowns first started appearing around the 1940s when department stores like Macy’s began to carry a collection of wedding gowns that most closely resemble modern wedding attire. Prior to this commercial introduction, bridal gowns varied widely based on social class–and white wasn’t even the most common colour.

As far as style goes, navy blue is the most common choice for a dark-coloured gown and a soft champagne colour is the most common choice for a lighter tone. Proper MOB gowns are full-length, formal, and modest. Many styles come with intricately detailed lace tops or two-piece gowns with lace jackets. And for a MOB who wants to remain youthful and avoid any styles that might appear to age her, a modest A-line gown with an off-the-shoulder top can provide just the right amount of modesty.

Popular Styles for Mother of the Bride Gowns

The mother of the bride’s gowns should match the formality of the wedding. For traditional, full-formal affairs, we love the idea of putting mom in a ballgown or a modest off-the-shoulder look. And for the ladies who want a little more flair without upstaging their brides, a non-traditional high-low cut gown with modest details works best.

Ball Gowns

A ballgown is a formal dress that features a fitted torso, low neckline, and full skirt. When a ballgown style is used for a MOB gown, we recommend keeping a close eye on the neckline to keep the style appropriate.

Off-the-Shoulder Gowns

These gowns can feature a variety of cuts, but the most common for a MOB gown is a simple A-line silhouette. Fitted dresses should feature modest detail and just the right amount of drape. The mother of the bride should embrace her femininity but we don’t want to draw the wrong kind of attention with seductive silhouettes. The one thing all of these dresses have in common is an off-the-shoulder neckline which provides just enough interesting detail to set the dress apart.

High-Low Cut Gowns

Asymmetrical hems signal a more modern design trend in formal wear. These gowns can be very appropriate for a mother who wants to feel youthful and fashionable without overshadowing the bride. We especially love a high-low-cut hemline paired with a modest neckline.

Trendy Patterns for the Mother of the Bride

When it comes to formal affairs and patterns, specific floral patterns are really the only thing that works. If you’re dressing a mother of the bride for a spring wedding, then a beautiful floral gown can be just the right amount of a style statement that adds a little pizzazz to the wedding party.

The Best Materials for MOB Gowns

Almost any traditional material for formal gowns is also appropriate for a mother of the bride gown. However, you will likely find much more detail on these gowns compared to other types of formal gowns. Lace, beading, and embroidery all seem to be exceedingly popular for the mother of the bride.

The MOB gown is commonly featured in a variety of neutral shades, relying on embellishments to provide the biggest impact for elegance. Beading, or adding a little glitz by sewing tiny glass beads onto the bodice of a gown is a classic embellishment choice for the mother of the bride.

For accents that offer a little more shine, sequins can be used in a similar manner by sewing them onto the bodice of a gown.

Popular Colors for the Mother of the Bride

As with any formal occasion, the season will play a big part in the colour selection for the whole affair and the MOB gown is no exception. Next to that, the bride’s selection of colours for the wedding will dictate an acceptable colour palette. This leaves the mother with a narrow selection of colour options for her gown.

The most popular colour palettes are:

  • Pastels
  • Neutrals
  • Jewel Tones
  • Rose Gold & Other Metallics

Pastels

Pastels are almost exclusively worn for spring weddings. In fact, spring provides the perfect opportunity for the mother of the bride to pair a pastel colour palette with a large floral print for something that is just a little different. This works best when the bridesmaids are wearing a pastel colour like lavender.

Neutrals

Neutrals work year-round and are an easy fit into most wedding colour schemes. For winter weddings, choose navy as your neutral and for warmer weather go with a nude colour. One of the most classic MOB gown styles is a nude or champagne-coloured two-piece gown with detailed lacework, embroidery, or beading on the cape.

Jewel Tones

Summertime can be a great excuse to go a little more bold with jewel tones like deep pinks, teals, and bold purple hues. These vibrant jewel-toned colours generally speak for themselves and need very little embellishment.

Rose Gold/Metallics

For fall weddings, ditch the traditional humdrum of deep reds and yellows and go for something metallic instead. Rose gold is one of those metallic hues that are soft, feminine, and elegant. Metallic shades like rose gold pair well with a little shimmer so consider adding detail with a glittered fabric or a little sparkle to your sheer sleeves.

Sleeve Options for the Mother of the Bride

A mother of the bride gown does not require sleeves–but many women, especially as they get older, appreciate a little extra coverage. You’ll find hundreds of styles that offer everything from cap sleeves to full-length sheer sleeves. And, you’ll find plenty of styles that offer no sleeves at all. And, it’s all perfectly okay. When it comes to choosing an appropriate mother of the bride gown, there are many different ways to balance her feminine beauty with age-appropriate modesty that compliments the bride.

Final Thoughts on Mother of the Bride Fashion

The mother of the bride (and often the mother of the groom) are important part of the bridal party. The wedding is often as much about these women giving away their babies as it is for the couple who are coming together in the union of marriage. And, therefore, it is only fitting that these ladies are decorated and celebrated with full formal fashion, wearing something that is a little more than a typical gown.

In conversation with Make-up Artist Ambreen

A summary of my conversation with UK’s Celebrity Make-up artist, Ambreen. We talked about all things makeup and some amazing beauty tips & tricks.

interview with makeup artist ambreen

When it comes to bridal makeup or makeup in general, we all have various questions. We are always looking for some tips from the experts of the beauty industry, especially during this time when the world is going through so much. With this thought in mind, I recently did an Insta live chat with Make-up artist Ambreen, where she shared her insights on all things makeup. Ambreen is a celebrity make-up artist based in the UK, she has worked with various top celebrities and brands like M.A.C, OK magazine, etc. So, here are the things that she shared with me on the live chat. You can checkout more such blogs here.

Celebrity makeup artist

I started the conversation by asking her how the lockdown has been and how it has impacted the beauty industry, and she gave a very positive answer. According to her, it has been a tough time, but social media has played a very important role during this time and has helped people connect more. It has allowed people to know and get in touch with people we don’t usually have a chance to speak to. She thinks now people are doing more things online. Everyone is doing lives, online tutorials, sharing their daily routines, their favorite products. It has given a lot of make-up artists a great platform and a chance to connect with their audience.

Bride in red lehenga

She also thinks that the way we look at weddings will change after this. According to her weddings will be lavish and beautiful but, they’ll become more intimate. People will focus more on who they want at their wedding, rather than inviting 400-500 people you don’t even know. She believes that the lockdown has given us all a new perspective on a lot of things, and we have started to look at life differently.

simple bridal makeup

The work of a make-up artist has always fascinated me, so I asked her about the best thing about her job, and she says, “The job of a make-up artist is a very feel-good job. When you get someone ready, be it for their wedding, shoot, or an event you make them look a certain way that they want, and when they look at themselves, they feel more confident, and it gives great job satisfaction. Especially for weddings, as it is the most important day of a woman’s life and it feels amazing to be a part of it.”

She also gave some great advice for all the aspiring makeup artists out there. She asks them to always be prepared for early and long hours. She advises them to remember that things take a while to build up, to get to a certain stage where you are comfortable with the work you are getting, but you must not give up. It can take weeks, months, years, but you will get there if you are determined. She asks them to focus on what you have as an artist and to always stay on trend as people are drawn to what’s trending.

glittery eye makeup

I was very curious to know one make-up tip that she would like to give to people and she emphasized that one should always prep the skin before doing makeup, as it gives the makeup a good base and helps it last much longer. Her suggestion was to use a moisturizer, primer, eye cream, and something to condition your lips. And when asked about the 5 must-have product in a woman’s vanity, these are the products she recommended, “For me its concealer, mascara, lip liner, blush and something for your brows. With these 5 products, you have got the whole face covered.”

wedding portraits

On being asked about the one product she can’t work without she said, “I will have to say my brushes. If I didn’t have my brushes, I wouldn’t be able to apply any product on my brides and I can’t apply it with my fingers.”

Looking at Ambreen’s amazing skin, I couldn’t resist myself from asking her for some skincare tips and she advices to read about your skin type, try a few products and brands to see what works best for you. She recommends following a skincare routine, using a good face wash, eye cream, moisturizer, toner, and exfoliating followed by a mask once a week.

indian bridal makeup

I really love all the bridal makeup looks she creates, so I wanted to get her insights on the key bridal make-up trends of the year to which she says, “I think less is going to be more.” According to her brides nowadays are already stepping away from the flamboyant makeup that we had years ago, they want to look more natural. And with weddings getting more intimate brides are going to opt for less makeup than they normally would.

My chat with Ambreen really helped me gain an in-depth knowledge of the beauty industry  and I would like to thank her for that. I hope it is helpful for you too.

The Groom’s Wedding Day Survival Kit: 10 Essential Items for Husbands-to-Be

Enough talking about the brides, it’s time we talk about the groom’s wedding day survival kit. Here are 10 essential items for all the grooms-to-be.

wedding day essentials for grooms

Most wedding survival guides on the internet tend to focus on the bride, and for good reason. The occasion is widely recognized as a woman’s Big Day. However, grooms would do well to remember that it’s one of the most important days of their lives, too, and that they aren’t as immune to last-minute mishaps as they might think. Checkout more wedding related blogs here.

For their peace of mind—as well as their brides’—we’ve put together a list of indispensable items that every groom should have readily available on his wedding day. From quick solutions to common outfit-related crises down to basic staples that might be lost or forgotten in the whirlwind days leading up to the ceremony, this groom’s survival kit leaves very few things to chance.

On-the-Go Fixes for Fashion Emergencies

A Miniature Sewing Kit

mini sewing kit

Men usually take clothing emergencies in stride. They don’t mind living with a loose button or an undone hem for a day. Grooms beware, though; not taking precautions to fix that tiny rip in your suit jacket can and will come back to haunt you. Every move you make on the day of the wedding will most likely be immortalized in film and video, so it’s worth making sure that you look your best for the cameras.

A wedding day emergency sewing kit should contain safety pins, sewing needles and thread in white, black, and your suit’s colors, a pair of scissors, some extra buttons for your shirt and jacket, and hem tape.

Stain Removers

stain removal pen

Nothing ruins a look more than an errant stain on the front of your shirt or your collar. A stain remover pen can help you get ahead of any smears, spills, and splatters. These usually contain a detergent base and hydrogen peroxide, a chemical that can break down stains without bleaching the colors out of your clothes. They’re best used on small spots from food or drink—aka the ones you’d typically encounter on a wedding. Simply apply immediately and blot, don’t rub. Rubbing will push the stain deeper into the fabric, making it more difficult to lift.

If you’re going to be wearing crisp white sneakers to your wedding, you’ll also want to keep them pristine. Experts recommend applying a sneaker protector to them right out of the box. To spot-clean your kicks onthego, use a magic eraser product. A bottle of matte white nail polish should also cover up scuffs and scratches in a pinch.

A Lint Brush or Roller

lint roller picture

Lint and hair look painfully obvious against a dark backdrop. Some guys think they only need a lint roller if they’re rocking a black suit, but lint shows up against blues and some grays, too. Keep your suit clean with a lint brush or roller. You can also use masking tape to lift lint off fabrics in the absence of those items.

A Couple of Basic Necessities

Extra Socks

socks pair

Most guys think that socksare a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at just how many men who can’t tell the difference between dress socks and gym socks. Packing an extra pair of Burlix standing over-the-calf socks isn’t too much of a hardship. With it, you can quickly rescue a buddy from wearing thick cotton socks under his suit pants, no muss and no fuss. They’re also nice to have around if you happen to step on a puddle and get your own dress socks all wet.

Extra Cuff Links

wedding cufflinks

This is yet another accessory often taken for granted. You may not forget your cuff links, but it’s never a bad idea to insure against that one friend of yours who just might. It’s also useful to have an extra pair on hand in case one of your own falls out while taking outdoor photos or during the reception.

The Day-of Grooming Kit

Deodorant

deodorant spray

Even if you don’t sweat a lot normally or are holding the wedding someplace cool like a mountain side resort, deodorant is non-negotiable. You’ll want to stay fresh for all the hugging you’re going to do! Go for dry spray antiperspirants and clear stick or gel formulas, as they leave the least amount of residue.

Breath Mints

mouth freshner

If all goes well, you’ll also be doing a lot of kissing throughout the day. Unfortunately, you probably won’t have time to step away for a quick brush once that wedding ball is rolling. Keep your breath fresh with mints; they’re a far more subtle choice than chewing gum.

Lip Balm

lip balm for men

As an adjunct to the above, kissing can actually result in drier, flaky lips that look awful in photos and feel even worse. Protect your lips with a good lip balm made with natural ingredients such as cocoa or shea butter. If you’re having a daytime wedding, go with a product that also offers sun protection.

Miscellaneous, but Still Essential!

Cash

money

You may have already pre-paid your wedding vendors, but it’s still nice to give them something extra before packing it up. Have enough cash on hand to tip your DJ, the driver, the bartender, and any other member of the staff that helped make your day so special. Hold it in a money clip to minimize bulk.

Medication

medication

The last thing you want is to get caught without relief from a headache or a queasy stomach on the day of your wedding. Stock up on pain relievers and antacids, as well as any maintenance or allergy medication that you take regularly.

Being prepared for (almost) every eventuality will allow you to enjoy the day more! We recommend putting these items in a Dopp kit or toiletry bag for easy access even as you move from one location to the next. Best wishes!

Sarees have always been in trend and will always be. If you want to steer clear of bridal hues for at least one occasion, pick an elegant Designer Saree with a sexy blouse to stun your beau on the cocktail night. Most Talked About Weddings 2018 – Top Trends

2018 will be remembered as the year of celeb weddings, with several big names having walked the aisle. While some couples took us by surprise with an announcement popping out of nowhere, others had us anticipating their big day with a bated breath. Apart from some biggies in Bollywood, we witnessed two royal weddings as well and each one was an extravaganza in its own right. Here’s a throwback to the most talked-about celeb weddings of 2018.

Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja

The couple highlighted trends like fusion looks, with sneakers worn by the groom and a unique Indo-western style worn by the bride at the reception.

2018’s celeb wedding season started with the big fat Punjabi wedding of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja that was held in May. After two-day revelry with a lavish mehendi and sangeet that was attended by Bollywood whos-who, Sonam and Anand tied the knot in a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony. Sonam looked eclectic in a ravishing red Anuradha Vakil lehenga with regal jewelry, Anand looked dapper in a sherwani.

Sonam Kapoor looked breathtaking in a subtle Chikankari lehenga by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla Couture which she wore for her mehendi and sangeet ceremony.

For the reception, she picked a unique, graphic lehenga by Anamika Khanna, but it was Anand who stole the thunder by pairing sneakers with a bandhgala.

Kareena and cousin sisters Jhanvi and Khushi were the most talked about celebrity guests.

Meghan Markle-Prince Harry

Meghan brought her glamour and style into the wedding but made sure that it blended with the elegance and class that the royals are so well known for.

May witnessed the biggest wedding of Britain as well, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took the vows at Windsor Castle. Meghan is a former American actress and her celebrity status reflects in her sartorial choices as well. Her wedding dress was designed by the British designer Clare Waight Keller from the House of Givenchy. The diamond bandeau tiara was the statement piece that was the highlight of the entire look. For styling, she wore subtle makeup with a face-framing fringe that was tucked behind her ears.

The celebrity guests who made waves were Kate Middleton and Priyanka Chopra.

Princess Eugenie- Jack Brooksbank

The trend that was spotted at this wedding was about celebrating your imperfections as the bride chose to flaunt them rather than hide them.

Another royal wedding that made it to the headlines this year was the autumn wedding of Princess Eugenie, who said yes to her long-time boyfriend Jack Brooksbank in October. The venue was the same where Meghan and Harry were married in May. The princess settled for a stunning outfit by Peter Pilotto for her wedding dress. It was designed with a corseted silhouette that teamed perfectly with full pleated skirt. She chose to flaunt the surgery scar on her back by wearing a low neckline. Like Meghan, Eugenie wore a headpiece lent by the Queen, this time a Greville emerald Kokoshnik tiara.

As expected, it was the both royal daughter-in-laws who were the most searched celebs at this wedding.

Deepika Padukone- Ranveer Singh

The couple has been a trendsetter in their own right and once again they chose to show that brides and grooms should be comfortable in their skin.

Coming back to Bollywood, it’s time to talk about the wedding of the two most successful stars if the industry- Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The couple that has been setting relationship goals for years decided to put a ring on it with a private affair at Italy’s exotic Lake Como on 14 and 15 November. It was a Mangalorean wedding ceremony, followed a traditional Sindhi wedding ceremony. DeepVeer opted for Sabysachi designs for most of the ceremonies.

The couple threw three reception parties, one at Bangalore and two at Mumbai, and carried each of their looks with aplomb.

Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas

The couple and their families set family goals and set a new trend with an extraordinary fusion between the East and the West to create a wedding to remember.

Perhaps the most-talked-about wedding of the year is the cross-continent extravaganza which had the Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra saying “I Do” to the American-singer Nick Jonas. A grand event at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, it was back-to-back Christian ceremony and a Hindu ceremony that had the guests and the public going gaga. The couple, as well as their families, chose bespoke Ralph Lauren outfits for the Christian wedding, while Priyanka picked a pure red bridal Sabyasachi lehenga for the Hindu wedding. The couple looked ravishing in Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla designs for mehendi and sangeet ceremonies.

A reception at Delhi was followed by two bashes in Mumbai. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the Delhi reception, the two parties at Mumbai had all the big names in Bollywood in attendance.

Lavish was the go word for the celeb wedding trends this year, whether it was with private affairs or the one in public eye. Wishing all these celebs years of togetherness and happiness ahead!

Best Of Festive Fashion 2018

With the festive season just around the corner, you’d probably be thinking about making an impression with some outstanding sartorial choices. This festive season, it is going to be all about innovation as contemporary trends blend effortlessly with ethnic vibes. From fabric to cuts, embellishments, and patterns, everything is just going to be about being experimental. Perhaps, you could go creative and try to mix and match some pieces that you already have in your wardrobe and create something that is extraordinary. Before you decide the look that you would want to flaunt this festive season, here are some fashion trends that you should know about:

1. Crop top with ruffled skirt

Here’s the most significant trend for the season, crop tops paired with flared skirts. The last year and this one have seen a lot of ruffles, and now these are making it big on the ethnic landscape too. While crop tops are designed in stiff fabrics, the ruffled skirts use softer ones like nets and georgettes to get the right silhouette.

2. Shirt and lehenga

Say hello to shirt style tops teamed with traditional lehengas this festive season. The quintessential collared shirts are worn with heavy lehengas made in luxurious fabrics like Banarasi silks and Mysore georgettes. For those who follow subdued styles, there is an option of simpler, floral fabrics for the lehenga. Try soft satin for the shirt to set off its masculinity and give it a feminine touch.

3. Dhoti suits

If your idea of festive dressing is inclined towards blending comfort with style, try a dhoti suit this season.  A smartly cut and well-fitted kurta teamed with a layered dhoti will make you look like a trendy diva. Team the outfit with dangling earrings to enhance the party look.

4. Saree with churidar

Try to modernize your saree by wearing it with a matching churidar instead of the good old petticoat. Complete the trendy outfit with a broad metallic belt that accentuates your waistline. And don’t forget the blouse; a sexy backless one can add to the glam quotient. Alternatively, you can pair it with a long-sleeved zari blouse to go fully festive.

5. Sharara with long kurta

Step out in a delicate sharara with a long kurta and make heads turn. This cute outfit is a perfect mix of femininity and elegance. Accessorize with a stylish potli bag, embellished mojri and heavy traditional jewelry to look like a queen.

6. Long jacket with palazzo pants

Long jackets have been in vogue for quite some time now and they are here to stray.  They make a perfect layering option as you can team them up with a lehenga or even a saree. Try to create a new look by pairing a printed or embroidered long jacket with a crop top and palazzo pants.

As the festive season is fast approaching, it’s time to get your wardrobe sorted out for each of the upcoming occasions. Try these fantastic ideas and be the talk of the town!

Let’s Bring Some Wedding Magic To Life, Your Perfect Gift To Make Those Memories Last Forever

When it comes to beautiful jewellery, Links London is one of my favourite brands, for their unique designs, dedication to craftsmanship and commitment to using the finest materials, and when I laid my eyes on their new wedding collections, I fell in love, and truthfully, the pieces took me back to my own special day as well.

Products Featured:

Your wedding is one of the most important moments in your life – not only because of the beautiful union that marriage entails, but also, because of the people who are present in the moment. The happiness that you feel in celebrating your special day with loved ones is incomparable, and the memories last forever. For a bride, the ladies by her side – her bridesmaids on the big day – are some of the most important people at the wedding. And what better way to remind them of your love and appreciation for them, than with a gift that will always be associated with the memories of the wedding? And that’s where Links London comes into play.

Their wedding series features gorgeous pieces of jewellery that would make the perfect bridesmaid gift (or if you’re a bridesmaid, the perfect bridal gift!). In the run-up to wedding season, I decided to bring some wedding magic to life and choose three of my favourite pieces from the collection to style into a chic bridesmaid look.

The first pieces that caught my eye were the Sterling Silver and Blue Diamond Stud Earrings. I loved these for their subtle sophistication – the hint of the blue and O-shaped style of the earrings makes them different from classic studs and allows them to be dressy enough to wear at a formal event like a wedding. And after the wedding is over, you can continue to wear them out and about – whether it’s for a brunch date with your girlfriends (to catch up on wedding details!), or even, to work. I chose to pair the earrings with Hope necklace in silver – another simple piece that complements a wedding ensemble in an elegant way.

Finally, for some arm candy, I chose the Diamond Cuff in silver. I loved the open style of this cuff and the fact that you can wear it on its own, or layer it with other bracelets or your watch. Either way, it looks beautiful on the wrist and is very comfortable to wear.

Of course, when you have jewellery this beautiful, you must wear the pieces with an outfit that is equally gorgeous. For this bridesmaid look, I wore a lovely floor-length dress. The jewellery pieces pulled the entire look together, creating the perfect bridesmaid ensemble – simple, sophisticated and subtle. This outfit took me back to happy, fun-filled memories of some of my best friends’ weddings and now, I am eager for a wedding to come up so that I can recreate this look again!

The Links London wedding series features many more products, including the Narrative Cuff, which can be engraved, the Sweetie collection, where you can add charms to the pieces and the Splendour collection which features beautiful jewellery pieces a four-point star motif. Whether you’re looking to gift something special to a bride-to-be or to your favourite ladies who are going to be your bridesmaids, you don’t need to look any further than Links London for the perfect piece of jewellery that will capture memories to last a lifetime.

Trending Bridal Hairstyles in 2018

Wedding bells bring out the diva in all of us. We want to look our best on that special day and go to great lengths to find the perfect outfit, the perfect jewellery, the perfect everything – right down to the shade of lipstick. But what often gets ignored in the exhaustive rush of planning your bridal look is the all-important hairdo! The way you fashion your hair can make a huge difference to your overall appearance. A last minute “do your best” directive to the salon hair-stylist can go very wrong. In order to avoid any such issues on D-day, it’s best to plan your wedding hairdo in advance, just as you plan your outfit, footwear, and makeup.

If you are looking for some wedding hair styling ideas, the recent trends in the bridal couture industry could be your inspiration. We have picked up two of the popular hair trends from this season that have universal appeal and suitability. Regardless of your height, face-cut, and wedding dress style, these hairdos will complement your bridal look. So read on for our top picks for bridal hairdos this season!

Bejewelled Up-do

Traditional Indian brides typically wear their hair in a bun since they need an up-do which their heavy dupatta or palu can be attached to. But modern brides have begun experimenting with the classic bun and also the way they drape their dupatta. We say, why not do the traditional up-do with modern stylistics? Perfect balance, isn’t it?

hair

This season, bejewelled hair accessories are all the rage. Go in for a soft bun and highlight it with hair accessories that match your jewellery. From the front, keep the look relaxed, with tendrils and wisps in a careful disarray. This will give you a soft, delicate appearance and also prevent the discomforts of tightly styled hair.

Waterfall Braid

Brides in the western world wear their hair in many different ways. Some leave them open with a little bit of styling while others go in for complex buns, braids, or even ponytails. Our favourite this season in the waterfall braid which can be as simple or fancy as you please. Just make sure to discuss it with your hairstylist before because they can take a while to get right.

Waterfall braids can be further enhanced with hair accessories or even flowers. We suggest using pearl accessories and/or white flowers since these add much elegance to the final bridal look. And the best part is, you do not have to worry about too many pins or clips in your hair since as far as keeping the hair in place goes, waterfall braids are rather low maintenance. Sounds great, right?

While these are our top picks, you can customize these further to better suit your sensibilities or even go in for something else. But keep two things in mind when selecting your wedding hairdo; one, it should be as comfortable and fuss-free as possible, and two, it should be distinctive enough to add more glam to your bridal turnout. You’ll not go wrong if you follow these rules!

On Ode to Modern Indian Woman – A Perfect Combination of Tradition and Modernity

The journey of the modern Indian woman has been an exemplary one. She has made a phenomenal transition, shedding her conservative avatar and stepping into the shoes of a bread-earner, a financial contributor. At the same time, she is still close to her roots as she understands the significance of being a daughter, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother. Truly, she has evolved as an individual and today, she emulates a perfect combination of tradition and modernity.

Yes, there are hindrances that curb her growth as an individual in her own right, but the modern Indian woman has proved her mettle by emerging strongly in the face of every single challenge. She has successfully managed to walk the tightrope and balance the roles of a homemaker and a professional. She has traditional values but her modern frame of mind aligns these values with the current lifestyle. Marriage is perhaps the most challenging phase of her evolution as she has to live up to the new family’s expectations without losing her individuality.  However, she is all set to embrace this challenge and use it as an opportunity to show her true colours.

Marriage should come at the right time

Today, the Indian woman has to be very sure about taking the big leap otherwise she would not do it. For her, marriage has to come only when she is ready for it, not when parents set up a timeline or as they seem to approach the “societal deadline”. The same goes for the choice of a life partner, whether the match is arranged or otherwise. Living with in-laws is no longer a cause for concern as this confident young woman usually looks to sort things out before stepping into the relationship. She would prefer an open discussion with her partner so that there are no misunderstandings once they begin their life together.

She is ready to be different and challenge conventions

The confident Indian diva is ready to think differently and challenge conventions. She is a leader and not a follower. She expects respect and love from her partner and is willing to give it back, but without making any compromises. And the same goes for her workplace. She is totally effortless as she slips into the role of a corporate professional from that of a homemaker. This is the woman who would love to try out a saree with a pair of jeans or take up a job which is quintessentially a part of the “male arena”. This is the woman who does not hesitate to voice out her opinion at home or at her workplace.

She loves being herself in her relationships

Whether it is marriage or work, the modern Indian woman is keen to be who she really is instead of wearing a fake face. To her, being different is about loving her personality and not changing it to make others happy. She is assertive, clear about her aspirations as well as her boundaries. She is not afraid to portray herself as an individual with her own needs as opposed to the notion of being a traditional homemaker who is willing to give up her wishes for others. She values her happiness and independence as much as those of her partner, children, family, and colleagues. Faking happiness is no longer her way of life as she is who she is, a unique individual with her own opinions, values, sensibilities and intelligence.

She loves the Indian culture but does not follow it blindly

Today’s woman is progressive in thinking but still, has a deep-rooted respect for the Indian culture and traditions. Whether it is about adorning “sindoor” or fasting on karwa chauth, she loves following the traditions yet is not staunch while she follows conventions. She holds customs close to her heart but has the flexibility to adapt according to the situation. Both her home and career are important to her and she makes sure that neither of the two is compromised for the other one.

Things are easier for single Indian women but marriage definitely spells change for them. However, the mindset in the country has undergone a significant change as people are opening up to the idea of having a daughter-in-law who would not give up her career post-marriage. The positive change in this direction has to come from the woman as well as her family, and of course, her partner.

Lehenga Styling for Pre-Wedding Rituals

A wedding is a plush affair in India and it is celebrated on a grandiose scale. Every bride to be is very eager to pick out her outfits, be it a wedding lehenga, cocktail dress or reception saree. The colour of the outfits, the matching jewellery, the contrast with the wedding décor are all the things that run in a bride’s mind before the big day. And it is obvious because it’s her special day and she wants to look nothing short of perfect for the groom and the camera.

Indian weddings are a grand affair. They are always celebrated with a lot of colours, themes, rituals and functions before the big day. Starting from the functions like Mehendi or sangeet to the main event a bride has to pick multiple outfits which make her look her best for all the events. Before finalizing on any of outfits a bride needs to do some market research.

Make sure to check out the local stores, online shops and the runaway designer style to check out the latest trends before picking out your outfit.

If you are getting hitched sometime soon and on a hunt for a stunning outfit for your pre-wedding rituals, then check out this monotone lehenga styled by me. A bridal lehenga is incomplete without some detailed handwork and embroidery.

I have styled this flared lehenga with embroidery work from Priti Sahni. The lehenga is a bold deep purple shade. If you are a bride who wants to break the stereotype and move away from the typical reds and pinks, then this colour is your pick. For brides who love to experiment this deep purple colour is very sultry and makes for a sophisticated look for any evening events.

This lehenga is perfect for a Sangeet. This colour block lehenga with detailed zardozi embroidery on the choli and the skirt is stunning enough to let you sizzle on the stage. An ode to Indian crafts and design, this lehenga set can make your evening even more memorable.

For a complete look, you need to pair your lehenga with the right type of jewellery. I paired this extravagant lehenga with Kundan, Emerald and Ruby studded jewellery.

Kundan Jewelry is very traditional and classic. The elegance of these stone studded jewellery is no match to any other contemporary styles. The light gold colour of the kundan perfectly matches the gold dupatta and the work on the lehenga.

Since the blouse is very heavy I would recommend to not wear too many statement pieces of jewellery. But that doesn’t mean you don’t flaunt some crystal. You can always pair a Maang tikka and bring some oomph to your outfit. Maang tikkas have come back in style and are a great way to style your outfit. The boat neck of the blouse allows me to wear a choker necklace which is traditional yet fashionable.

Now when it comes to makeup and hair, this outfit would look great with some subtle makeup. You can either go for bold lips or eyes, but not both. I also prefer open hair and loose curls for a girly look. One can always tie up their hair into a bun for a sophisticated look but I believe buns are better for post-wedding events like the reception.

What makes this piece even more special for me is the woman behind it. Priti Sahni was an engineer by profession, who quit her job to pursue her passion of designing. Known for her hand embroideries and Indian Craft, Priti’s designs have an interesting mix of colours and fabric which are woven into the most beautiful sarees and lehengas.

Red the Colour of Love.

Every girl desires to look their best when it comes to traditional wear. We all spend a lot of time deciding which accessories to pair up, which hairstyles to do. But when it comes to celebrations and cultural festivities, Indian Lehengas are always on our mind

Since I always try to put a twist on my outfits. Then, why not to this lehenga style?

I enjoy dressing up and love to use my creativity on my outfit ideas. Lehenga is a synonym and reminds of traditional wear. The fashionista in me always strives to look better and even more stylish than before. I, myself, wear western on daily basis, so, I experimented with the traditional look of Indian Lehengas to give it a peculiar and modern look. A little experiment with subtle of twist is just adding glamour to my attire.

Lehenga generally reminds one of Gagra choli paired with a matching blouse, then let me show you how I created this modern style lehenga for myself.

I chose this gorgeous peplum top and skirt from Nakhra by Parthivi. I love this brand and its flair to explore and keep bringing such new chic outfits to serve their customers. Crafted by master craftsmen, using finest fabrics, they keep in mind what modern women want and always aim to make their customers happy by creating various gorgeous looks including fabrics and embroideries for the modern women.

Initially, I was a bit sceptical to style an all plain red outfit, but then getting creative with this look had me excited. This plain red dress looks so gorgeous, great flair and fit, which makes the appearance look even more versatile.

The peplum top is so pretty and well fitted. You can also wear this along with jeans. Even, this skirt can be perfectly paired with another blouse or any other top. The opportunities and outfit styles you can create with this outfit are numerous, even while writing this I can think of more than 10 more ways I can style it.

More than anything, the simple lehenga and the beautiful red colour adds the elegance into action. No doubt, the red makes it brighter and prettier.

Always remember jewellery is a perfect spice that complements what’s already there. I went with this Kundan neckpiece and added a maang tikka with it. Since the lehenga is plain, I wanted to balance the look. My kundan accessories blended with my look perfectly and added oomph to the complete look.

A lehenga is incomplete without dupattas, chunis. People usually say a dupatta enhances a woman’s look to a whole new level. I paired this with a  silk dupatta. Breaking the monotony of red, I chose this green colour dupatta which added a perfect edge to my outfit. This dupatta is a cherry on the top. It just completed my quirky modern lehenga look by adding extra glamour to it.

Well, this one is worth investment. If you wish, you can play with different items from your wardrobe and create one such personalized outfit for you. Just experiment and be comfortable.

Do you like this idea of incorporating this modern look on Indian lehenga? What did you like? Let me know if you want me to do more posts on outfits that can be styled in more than one way in the comments section below.

“In The Garden” – Summer Wedding Floral Lehenga Look

Indian weddings and festivities are an experience filled with colours, rituals, laughter, joy and family. There are so many functions before the actual wedding that make the whole affair more memorable and fun. From sangeet, mehndi, pheras, and cocktail Indians know how to celebrate and enjoy.

I love seeing everyone decked up in different ethnic outfits like Lehengas, Anarkalis, and Sarees. But at times you get confused which outfit or colours are appropriate for the occasion. You don’t want to be overdressed and look like the bride or immediate family member or underdressed and feel like you don’t belong.

Since it’s Summers on Now, I have decided to write this post focusing on a look for daytime functions. For this garden party look I went in for a light and printed lehenga paired with a gold choli and a bright mauve dupatta with gold bootis. The choli is more like a crop top than a traditional choli as I wanted a modern twist to the entire look. Florals are perfect for spring and an outdoor daytime event which is why I went for a floral printed lehenga in summery shades of pink. The floral print screams out outdoor, colourful, fun, and spring it’s a good twist to the traditional Indian lehengas with embroidery and hand work. It is very light and easy to wear since it’s printed. What I love about lehengas is that you can twirl around in them and it makes you feel like a princess.

The outfit is a customised outfit from Anaya textiles. They specialise in fabrics like chiffon, silk and cotton and have a wide range of designs. The best part is that they do “made to order” outfits where you can create your own outfit, whatever you desire right from the fabric to the colour palette it can all be customised.

I paired up my floral lehenga with traditional Kundan earrings and necklace. I went in for key jewellery pieces to enhance my overall look.  I also added a matha tikka to highlight my outfit. You can match your tikka to your earrings for an elegant and graceful look. To complete my outfit I have also worn bangles, ring and a hath phool. Hath phool or a hand bracelet is a globally loved Indian ornament. Traditionally it was only worn by brides but with designers coming up with modern and lighter variants of the jewellery it has even become a party wear accessory. I have gone for a simple hairstyle to keep the focus on my outfit and jewellery and a very romantic look with my makeup. One of the best parts of this outfit is that you can even reuse the skirt for a western look if you want. Pair it with a white tee or a crop top for a modern look. This look is a great day look and perfect for a garden party like a mehndi or a sangeet function.

Indian Wedding Make Up Trends

One cannot possibly miss a very important aspect in every Indian bride’s list: Make up! With a myriad of wedding themes available, zeroing on a particular theme is tough, not to mention deciding the corresponding ‘look’ is even tougher.

Thus, prospective brides fussing around every minute detail and expecting high standard is not uncommon; aka move over salons and hello professional make up artists. After all, every bride wants to look her stunning best to be able to show off on all the numerous social media sites and photo opportunities. So, what does a bride keep in mind in the current wedding season? Here is our little pick-:

Eye Makeup:
When brides decide their outfit, one of the first questions that pop up in their mind with respect to make up is; what colour eye shadow and lip colour should they be using? The eyes speak a thousand words and Smokey eyes will never fail to impress. But this year we are ditching the blacks and opting for candid colours like metallic greens, gold and pinks. Here is a little tip; throw in some glitter or jewel tones to make a bolder statement. Don’t  forget to get those fake eye lashes out and make them long and doll like. Mickey Contractor, the brand ambassador of MAC cosmetics recommends using fake eye lashes in all your events.

Lips:
Now coming to the next important aspect; your lips! While dark colours are definitely in, but we are recommending berry hues like bright strawberry, black current and even reds. Make those lips plump and pouty with some gloss. Ladies, don’t be shy in trying a maharani pink with your orange lehenga and dark purple pouts with your green lehenga, it is all about contrast and standing out among the crowd.

Face:
After the colours have been taken care of, what about the base i.e. your face? The makeup moguls suggest skipping heavy bronzing, highlighting and sticking to the glow. Just a neutral blush and a pinch of highlighter on the cheek is enough to make you rule the day.  Remember to  keep it simple and natural. For all those getting married during the day, our stylists recommend it to keep the entire make up fresh and dewy. The neutral base on your face along with peachy pink lips and glittery golden eyes will make you summer-y stunning. Techniques like air-brushing, though a bit expensive would also help in ensuring that the make-up lasts long.

Hairs:
Now give those long straight tresses of yours a welcome break and make way for wavy braids and side swept fish tail braids. We are not saying goodbyes to those waves, but we just want them tighter and curlier.  We also recommend keeping accessories like padding, hair donuts and sausages handy to create that bohemian or romantic look in a short span of time. This way the hair stays secured for a longer duration as well. Thanks to Kate Middleton, seashell-shaped buns are also making a wave, although they may not suit everyone.

We always keep a watch out for all the trends and recommendations. But nevertheless, we also believe in staying true to one’s style and intuition. Yes, we believe in letting your heart speak when it comes to deciding on your make-up and hairstyle.

So, before blindly following a make-up trend, we advise you to discuss your options with your make-up and hair professionals and decide these much in advance, so as to save you those last minute panic attacks. Remember that despite the makeup, the most stunning bride is the one who has a natural glow, which stems from her inner happiness. So, here is to a colourful future for all those stunning brides to be.
