Fresh New Colours for this Season

It feels that the moment the sun comes out, the world becomes a frenzy of colour. As fashion-forward women our reaction is, of course, to reciprocate and adorn ourselves with every beautiful hue there is going. But, when it comes to choosing which colours are not only stunning, but actually on-trend, the season can be a little confusing. Of course, we have our old favourites – those spring/summer-time pastels, but if you’re after something with a little more umph, you’ve come to the right place.

Here is this season’s colour chart, as told by Pantone:

As you can see, those trusty pastels are still, as ever, present, but there are some more unusual tones to experiment with, too.

My personal faves are of the mid-tone variety – all bouncily bright but definitely with the potential to work as understated flashes of colour, if that’s more your thing.

The first is Pantone 18-2436. This gorgeously deep, dark fuchsia is a much more grown-up version of pink and, let’s face it, everybody loves pink. Pink is, after all, the new black, and there’s no classier a way to wear it then with this lovely shade.

The second is Pantone 19-4053. Blue’s one of those colours that looks great on everyone, working with every skin tone. It’s also wonderfully easy to wear, as blue is renowned for being the least clashing colour out there. If you’re looking for one statement item you can wear with anything and everything, this is the tone to go for. Bags, shoes, jackets, accessories: here we come!

The third is Pantone 16-5421. Ah, fresh sea air anyone? This striking shade is everything beachy and more, perfect for a day at the seaside, or even if you just want to feel that fresh ocean breeze where you are. The slight minty tone adds a whole other layer of freshness, too!

The fourth is Pantone 18-1652. This sumptuous berry red is simply to-die-for. The slight ashy, husky hue adds a super sultry vibe, just emanating passion. If you’ve got a hot date or two this summer, this colour is undoubtedly for you. The bluish undertones of this particular shade of red make it easier to wear than warmer reds, too, so don’t be put off.

So now it’s time to hit the shops, we insist! And try something daring this season. We all love pastels, but why not shake things up just a little? You never know, you might just find your new navy.

Five Cool New Seasonal Prints in 2015

prints

It’s all about prints this season, and it’s got our creative fashion juices flowing. If you love your prints and have no problem pattern clashing your way through summer, then by all means, go right ahead! If you’re a little more apprehensive, however, then you’re in luck. We’ve cherry-picked five of the best prints that are super hot this season to get you inspired to try something new.

Gingham
Ah, that old favourite – gingham. Love it or hate it, it’s totally in this season. If you’re a little unsure when it comes to wearing prints, gingham’s a great place to start. You can go for colours that you love and feel comfortable in, and there’s even a great deal of choice in terms of the size of print you go for depending on how bold you’re feeling.

Graphic Floral

It’s practically impossible to go through summer and ignore the overwhelming amount of floral in high street shops, but if you’re tired of chintzy pretty florals, go graphic. Graphic florals are certainly bold, but they’re certainly now and, when done right, can look down-right fabulous.

Aquatic
Aquatic print is the new nautical. We’ve migrated from the sea-side and yacht deck right into the sea, so dive in and embrace this trend. Anything aqua, sea foam, or general sea-like greens and blues goes, with gorgeous mermaid-inspired frocks and gowns. This is our personal favourite of this season’s trends.

Candy Stripe
Again, if you’re a tad nervous about going too loud with you prints, simple, geometric prints like candy stripe are perfect. Traditional candy stripe print is red and blue, but any colour goes. We think that pastels work perfectly here for that effortlessly breezy summer vibe.

Artistic
Think abstract expressionism: Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Cy Twombly. This painterly trend is wonderfully fun, so really go to town with it. This is not something to do by halves, so try pairing the splattered paint look with another decadent print for extra-awesome impact.

Summer Jackets for Every Occasion

jackets

Yes, summer is here, but as much as we’d like to be able to venture out jacket-free without a worry, it’s perhaps sensible to have a jacket on hand. Summer jackets can take a nice summer outfit right up to fabulous, so don’t be afraid to make the most of your jacket collection this summer. Here we’ve compiled a list of eight summer jacket styles that are all well-worth investing in, to keep you looking cool but feeling warm this summer.

Leather
You simply can’t go wrong with a leather jacket. They are classy, timeless, and there’s one to suit everyone. Dress down a slightly more formal dress, or go casual chic with jeans, the leather jacket is as versatile as they come. Find the shape that works for you, and trust us, you’ll be living in it.

Denim
Oh the good old denim jacket. They went quiet for a little while, but they’re back with a vengeance and we love it! Nothing says summer better than a pretty sundress and denim jacket, so this really is a staple for summer. Buy it and love it, or if you can find a vintage jacket, even better!

Kimono
The kimono is the perfect throw-it-on jacket that’ll fit neatly in your handbag and can be whipped out at a moment’s notice. For that bohemian festival look, a kimono is perfect, and they’re great for the beach. What’s more, Japanese is totally in this season.

Embroidered
If you’re after something super special and a little bit different, an embroidered jacket is the perfect solution. Of course, they look stunning, and you can choose and colour palette or style you like. The embroidery just adds that lovely extra texture, creating a more premium look.

Print
Prints are totally in this season, so liven up a plain outfit with a printed jacket if you aren’t quite ready to go prints all over. A print jacket will instantly lift your wardrobe, making every outfit look as though it’s been planned in detail rather than just thrown on at the last moment.

Sequin
Sequins galore! Every girl loves a bit of sparkle, so why not take it a step further into a lot of sparkle with a stunning sequinned jacket. This piece will transition any outfit from day to night perfectly, so it’s great for those after-work drinks when you don’t have time to go home and change.

Slouch blazer
If you’re after the smart-casual look, a slouch or deconstructed blazer is the summer jacket for you. Slouch blazers are perfect for work when you don’t have to wear a suit but want to look professional, or just for smartening up your standard casual outfit.

Military
Military jackets are fabulous for festivals, so if you’re festivaling this year, invest in one of these babies. Not only do they look effortlessly glam, but the pockets make for a super-practical jacket that means you don’t have to worry about carrying a bag with you at all times.
