Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio, London Shopping Experience

I visited the Pernia’s Pop-Up studio, London to try some outfits, and it is a one-stop-shop for all the wedding and Indian wear shopping.

Designer Seema Gujral

Shopping is always fun, but nothing is more exciting than Indian bridal shopping. And what makes bridal shopping even more exciting is finding everything one needs from outfits to jewellery in one place. All the Asians settled in the UK will agree with me that shopping for Indian wear is a bit tricky here as there are not a lot of good options. One has to do a lot of research and go from shop to shop to find everything they need. I recently visited the multi-designer Pernia’s Pop-Up studio in London to try some outfits, and I am happy to report that our search is over. It is a one-stop-shop for all the wedding and Indian wear shopping. Checkout more Indian bridal shopping blog here.

Pernia's Pop-Up shop
Designer Yashodhara

Located in London’s luxury shopping district, Mayfair, Pernia’s Pop-Up studio is home to some of the leading Indian designers. This is Pernia’s first international store and they have a beautiful collection of outfits to choose from. No matter what someone is looking for, there is something for everyone. With gorgeous lehengas, elegant anarkalis, chic indo-western pieces, and stunning accessories, Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio is a traditional wear heaven for all the would-be brides and fashion lovers out there.

Collection & designers at the Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio

Pernias Pop-Up Studio, London

The thing that I love the most about the collection is that it’s not just limited to heavier pieces, there are light outfits as well, that is ideal for smaller functions or evening parties. The collection is carefully selected and there is a perfect combination of pretty prints and edgy embroideries.

Designer Anita Dongre

Some of the designers available at the studio are Payal Singhal, Anita Dongre, Masaba, Abu Sandeep, Kalista, Aisha Rao, Yashodhara, Seema Gujral, Nupur Kanoi, Anushree Reddy, Tarun Tahilani, and more. Women’s clothing is not the only thing they have, there are great options for men as well. So, the grooms get to have some fun too.

Services they offer

Pernia Pop-Up shop

Pernia’s has an online store too, but I think being at a physical store is an entirely different experience. One gets to look at the outfits, see what they like the best, and then make an informed decision to buy them. There is a beautiful trial room at the studio, where one can try on the outfits. They have jewellery, footwear, and clutches too, so it’s easy to see what the final look will look like after adding all the accessories. In my opinion, it’s always a good idea to try and buy heavy Indian outfits, as they are an investment and we wouldn’t want to go wrong with those.

Designer Aisha Rao

They offer fitting services as well and there is also an option to get an outfit customised as per our preference. If we like something and want it in a different size, colour, or style, we can order and if it’s doable, they’ll get it made. I think it’s amazing to have a specially made designer outfit in our wardrobe.

Designer Nupur Kanoi

I had a great time at Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio and it lived up to my expectations. I loved the collection and was so mesmerized by the outfits. Whenever I have to shop for Indian wear next, I am going to buy it from them. If you are in London or are looking to buy good, designer Indian clothes in the UK, I would recommend you to check out Pernia’s Pop-Up studio. You won’t be disappointed, I promise.

How to Style a White Shirt in Indo-Western Ways

There are a lot of ways of styling a white shirt in western ways, but the Indian in me has always been very keen to pair it with my ethnic pieces to create Indo-western looks. Here are my favourite white shirt ethnic looks.

Indo-western looks with white shirt

It is said that you can never go wrong with a shirt dress and I totally agree. A white shirt is that piece of clothing that goes perfectly with almost everything and you don’t even have to put much effort into styling it. No matter what piece of clothing you pair it with, it just fits like a missing piece of puzzle and that maybe that’s why it’s called a wardrobe essential. There are a lot of ways of styling a white shirt in western ways, but the Indian in me has always been very keen to style my white shirt with ethnic pieces to create Indo-western looks. I have done it quite some times and absolutely loved it. So, here are my favourite white shirt ethnic looks and if you are looking for more fashion and styling inspiration click here.

  1. With a Sharara
Sharara with white shirt

I love myself a sharara moment and therefore pairing my white shirt with a sharara was a must. I chose a printed, colourful sharara as I wanted a vibrant look. You can go for a solid one as well. This look is ideal for wearing to small ceremonies. All you have to do is add a golden necklace, a matching dupatta, a gorgeous pair of juttis and ta da.

  1. With a Statement Dupatta & Belt
Dupatta with white shirt

When it comes to styling your white shirt into ethnic ways, a nice statement dupatta can go a long way. Pick out your favourite dupatta, put it over your simple white shirt & denim outfit like I did and add a belt on top to keep it in place.  You can also go for a simple dupatta if you like. Add some ethnic jewellery and footwear to complete your look and you are all set.

  1. With a Palazzo
Palazzo with white shirt

Easy-breezy and perfect for a day out, this is what this next look is. Pair your bright coloured or solid ethnic palazzo with your white shirt to get a relaxed look in minutes. You can wear to go shopping or a casual day out in the park. Complete your look with a statement chunky silver necklace and an ethnic sling bag and you are ready.

  1. With an Ethnic Skirt
Ethnic skirt with white shirt

Your flowy ethnic skirt is excellent to give an ethnic twist to your white shirt and believe me it looks great. Wear your favourite ethnic skirt with a white shirt, add a matching dupatta and there you have it, a perfect outfit for small wedding functions, like mehendi. I chose simple jewellery for this look, but you can go for heavier pieces and take it up a notch.

  1. With an Ethnic Jacket

What’s better than an ethnic jacket to add an Indian touch to your white shirt? Amp up your look instantly by adding a long ethnic jacket over your basic white shirt and blue denims.  You can wear this outfit to lunch with your girlfriends. To complete your look, add some silver jewellery, a nice pair of heels and a handbag.

These are the ways in which I give an ethnic twist to my white shirt. I hope you like the looks and try them next time you are looking for some Indo-western outfit inspiration.

Say Hello to Spring in Style

Say Hello to Spring in Style

With the Spring-spun bonanza of merry sunshine, blooming flowers, and fresh fragrances comes an endless stream of sartorial inspiration. I love experimenting with trending Spring styles and try to incorporate my personal fashion preferences into every look. Here’s a list of my favourite Spring trends – read on for some Spring-fashion winners!

Frills Dress

Outfit Featured from Very.co.uk

The youthful vibrancy of frilly clothing is a perfect match to Spring-time merriment. Though some ladies avoid frilly clothing, fearing it may have them looking silly, if you style them right, rocking those frills is a cake walk. For my Spring frills look, I teamed up a black frilly dress with flat leather boots and statement earrings. The dark color of the dress and the minimalist accessorizing created an outfit that’s perfect for day outings as well as evening events. The final effect is cheery and youthful; perfectly reflecting the Spring season’s glory.

Jeans Jacket

Outfit Featured from Fatface.com

I love denim fabric and when in jacket-form, it’s even more delectable. Jeans jackets have made a comeback this season, and I’m loving it! You can wear jeans jackets as comfy accessories to dresses, jeans, shorts, and skirts. My go-to style is pairing a sleeveless jeans jacket with a printed dress or skirt to add depth to the outfit. The contrast of uber-feminine clothes with rugged denim accessories is bold, beautiful, and great for the inner-boho-diva in you.

Culottes

Culottes are Spring-fashion’s favourite child. They never go out of fashion and re-invent themselves year after year. Casual and comfy, culottes are a great option for daytime outings and informal evening dos. You can go in for printed or embroidered culottes for charming, feminine ensemble. For a more bold, androgynous look, go in for dark-hued, plain or striped pieces. Pair them with fitted tops for a morning outing and jumpers/jackets for evening-wear.

Star Print

Outfit Featured from Hush-uk.com

Floral motifs are Spring staples, but this year, the stars have taken over! The star print is trending and I’m all for it. In my starry look, I’m sporting a grey jumper with a huge star applique on the front. But there’s are loads of other options to choose from. Small-starry prints are great for flowy dresses and strappy blouses. Mid-sized colourful prints are great for quirky top and bottom wear. Large or single-print stars (like the one on my jumper) create a striking yet casual statement effortlessly. So find your kind of star print and have some fun with it!

Jeans with Statement Lining

Jeans from Hush-Uk.com

One would think that innovating with jeans is something of a lost cause. Everything’s been done, from funky colours and cuts, to embellishments and rips. But there’s a new trend brewing and it’s statement lining. The lining on jeans’ sides have become head-turning stylistics this Spring season. I’m wearing a pair with darkened and chafed lining for a casual, chic look. I’ve spotted several other interesting statement lining styles too. Beaded, pearl lining looks wonderful, as do embroidered and sequined linings. I’m sure to pick up some more denim with statement lining soon. What about you?

Floral Headbands

In the accessories department, one of the fascinating trends is of the floral headband. While a few years, floral motifs were a go-to for Spring clothes, shoes, and bags, they’re now oft used in hair accessories too. Floral headbands are a feminine quick-fix for any outfit. Yes, they’re not the easiest to pull off, but channel your inner princess and you’re good to go. I’ve worn floral headbands to daytime outings such as brunches and picnic. But you could also experiment with them as party accessories.

Belted Suits

If you’re wondering about some desi trends for this Spring season, I feel belted suits are quite charming. Blending a traditional style with western stylistics perfectly captures the essence of the modern woman. Team up a classic leather belt with a floor-length kurta and watch the magic happen! This fusion look is sure to win you many compliments, as it did for me. I wore a brown twisted-leather belt with a blue, printed kurta and matching dupatta. The brilliant sunshine and noontime beauty was the perfect accessory to my elegant belted suit.

Statement Jackets

Jackets are a great accessory all year ‘round. But wear them in Spring season and you’re bound to invite a lot of attention. I prefer to wear jackets that are off-beat in their stylistics – that makes you stand out from the crowd. I have a whole section of my wardrobe just for jackets and have put them to good use to beat the Spring-time chills. I’ve enjoyed wearing long printed jackets, short embroidered ones, and also some sleeveless styles. The point is to use jackets as elegant accessories to an otherwise simple ensemble. Yes, they bring the jazz to the outfit!

Crop Tops

Crop tops have arrived in a big, big way. They have been topping the chic charts since last year and Spring is just the time to whip them out. Ending just below the abdomen, allowing scintillating peeks at the midriff, crop tops can be fashioned to suit all kinds of looks for almost any occasion. Since summer has not hit us yet, I’ve been wearing longer crop-tops that do not expose the belly yet. They look great with jeans and skirts, and effortlessly stylish no matter what the occasion is.

Floral Prints

This is most certainly a no-brainer. Spring fashion and florals are a match made in heaven. Floral prints are one of those classic styles that I never want to shun. I love the delicate femininity that such motifs bring out in all kinds of clothing. While wearing floral tops, bottoms, and dresses, is rather familiar, if you want to experiment, go ahead and put on some floral accessories. Wear floral scarves, jackets, or even socks. You could also sport handbags, clutches, and hats with floral prints, to try something new. Simply put, if it’s springtime, you can’t go wrong with floral prints.

Nothing says fashion-forward like a pair of well-crafted shoes. If you want to make a statement with your Spring attire, make sure to stock up on some beautiful statement pieces that are hard to miss. I’ve got myself a pair of floral-print sneakers which perfectly complement my casual outfits. I’ve also been wearing a pair of silver brogues quite often, on account of their versatility. They go with casual as well as formal outfits and are quite the eyeball grabber, I must say. If you, too, want to Spring to be a fashion feast for you, do stock up on some statement shoes this season. You’ll not regret it!

Celeb-Trends
1. The Two-Piece Ensemble
Be it at the Coachella Music Festival, the prestigious red carpet or even casual outings, a lot of Hollywood A-listers have been spotted in the two-piece ensemble of a printed crop top and matching high-waisted skirt. Such outfits have a fun, flirty appeal and promise just the right amount of skin show. And the summer season is the ideal time to don on a two-piece ensemble; go ahead and dazzle the onlookers.

Who said flip-flops are meant just for the beach? If celebrities can wear them to the supermarket, park or impromptu lunch, so can we. Off-late, novelty flip-flops with thick soles, fabrics such as velvet and fur, sequined detailing and so on, have been sported by numerous stars. Pair them with a pair of cut-off or jeggings for any casual outing.

3. The White Hats
Celebrities have been big on white hats this summer season. From sturdy straw hats to delicate woven ones, hats in all shapes and sizes with a white base have been captured by the shutterbugs very often this season. You too, could take inspiration and get yourself a cool white hat. The best part is, it would also make for a very useful accessory on sunny days, shading your pretty face from the harsh sun.

It all started with Dior’s 2016 collection of mirrored sunglasses. While reflectors never really went out of fashion, with this leading fashion brand releasing a whole range with coloured mirror finish and numerous shapes and sizes, the glamour industry wasted no time. Every fashion bigwig is known to own a pair of mirrored shades. Maybe you could consider getting one too?

Cropped jeans have been trending high this summer season. With their above-the-ankle tailoring and/or upturned edges, they add an edge to your informal attire. No wonder numerous celebs have been seen wearing cropped denims when out shopping or completing outdoor chores. And cropped denims are the perfect choice for when you want to flaunt your shoes or anklet.

Fashion Lessons From Five Eternal Style Icons

FotorCreated

One cannot think of fashion without certain people coming to mind. In the midst of the fast fashion and flash trends that are bountiful in the world of style today, there are certain titbits of advice by these immortalised style icons that transcend time, generations and the fleeting nature of fashion as we know it today. These five snippets of advice from five infamous style icons will stick with you through everything!

Audrey Hepburn

The leading lady of Breakfast At Tiffany’s definitely knew a thing or two about fashion outside of cinema. In fact, her signature style was rather boyish, proving that menswear can be really sexy when carried off the right way. If there is one tip that you should take from Audrey, it should be that you can never go wrong with a crisp collared shirt, a pair of perfectly tailored trousers and loafers.

Edie Sedgwick

Whilst the life of young Edie ended rather tragically, this damsel was the ultimate style icon in her heyday. Her bold winged eyeliner was a hot favourite during the 1960’s; however, it was her eternal love for stripes that stood out the most. Edie loved everything with black and white stripes and a boat neck was the icing on the cake. Today, I firmly believe that a striped, off-shoulder top can save the day.

Coco Chanel

The mind and talent behind one of the world’s leading luxury fashion brands was a style guru in her own right. Coco Chanel was loved for tossing out the status quo, for her bold statements and for her undeniable strength of character. When it came to fashion, Coco was known for clean cuts, comfort and a minimalistic aesthetic. In fact, she once famously remarked said, “I get rid of every¬thing I can, every thing that is not useful. Until I reach simplicity…” The lesson here is easy: less is more.

Grace Kelly

Have you ever wondered who inspired the classic Kelly bag by Hermès? Well, wonder no more, ladies! Grace Kelly was a talented actress who was always at her stylish best, both on and off the silver screen. The greatest lesson that she left behind was the importance of carrying a fabulous handbag with you at all times. It mind sound intuitive, but I reckon that you should take stock of your handbag collection from time to time and ensure that every piece you own is perfect.

Jackie Kennedy

For someone with a political association, Jackie Kennedy had an unbelievably strong sartorial sense. Heavily influenced by European fashion of the era, Jackie always looked picture perfect and poised. Though she furthered the conversation of style in many ways, she will always be remembered for her infamous sunglasses which quickly came to be known as the “Jackie O Glasses.” Her love for shades was so strong that she was rarely seen without them. Ladies, take a cue from this first lady and remember that a good pair of sunglasses is simply non-negotiable!
