Your Navratri Guide – Outfits, Food, Songs & more

Here is all you need to know about the 9 days Navratri festival. From outfits and songs to what to eat while fasting.

The festive season has begun and it’s finally one of my most awaited festivals, Navratri. It is that time of the year when the streets are filled with blingy lights and there are colourful twirls all around. Navratri is a festival celebrated in India, in which people worship Maa Durga and fast for nine days. Apart from the religious rituals, Navratri is also known for Garba Dance. People dressed in colourful outfits, with dandiya in hand and dancing to Graba songs, is what typical Navratri looks like. Even after moving to the UK, it is still one of my favourite festivals and I still get excited for it like I used to get back home in India. So, here I am going to talk about all things Navratri, from outfit ideas & Navratri songs to what to eat while fasting, keep reading. Checkout more festive content here.

Navratri Outfit Ideas

Navratri outfits are all about colours. Bright red, yellow, orange, green are all the shades that will look the best while you’re dancing your heart on your favourite songs. Here are some of the outfit ideas that’ll make you stand out in the crowd and rock this Navratri.

1.       Chaniya Choli

Navratri outfit

Nothing screams Dandiya night like a lovely, flowy chaniya choli and it is without a doubt one of the most common attire among girls. You can opt for a basic chaniya choli or you if you want something with an oomph factor; you can go for one like Deepika wore in Ramleela. You can further glam up your looks by adding some silver jewellery and you are good to go.

2.       Dhoti Pants with Kurti

Navratri look

If chaniya choli is not your calling then go for something like Alia is wearing. Just pair your dhoti pants with a Kurti and throw on a jacket on top and tada. You can even wear a crop top with dhoti pants, and it will look just as good. This look is fun, comfy and so easy to carry. Pair it with juttis and chunky earrings and you are ready.

3.       Denim with ethnic top

If you are someone who loves their denim and doesn’t like to go all traditional, then this look is just for you. Take inspiration from Sara Ali Khan and pair your bright ethnic top with your favourite denim and be ready to rock the Garba night. This look is super chic, effortless and doesn’t require much investment. Complete your look with a pair of juttis and dance the night away.

4.       Lehenga or long skirt with Shirt

Navratri outfit ideas

I bet all the girls out there have a lehenga in their wardrobe that they have worn once and now it’s just lying there waiting to be rescued. Well, now is the best time to take out that lehenga and put it to use this Navratri. Pair your lehenga skirt with a shirt like Daisy Shah or crop top, add some chunky silver jewellery and you will be ready to take over the night.

5.       Long ethnic dresses

dandiya night outfit

Ethnic dresses are something that look super elegant and classy. They are so versatile and they look so good no matter what occasion you wear them on. For the Garba night, you can go for a floor-length dress like Athiya, add some silver jewellery, jutties and that’s it, your look is complete. If you want to dress it up more, you can add an ethnic Indian belt to accentuate the waist.

Top 10 Garba Songs

Now that your dandiya night outfit is sorted, it’s time to move to the next thing that is vital for Navratri are the songs that’ll get you grooving instantly. I still remember my college times when I used to dance for straight 2-3 hours just because I enjoyed the music so much.  Here is a list of top 10 Garba songs that you should add to your garba playlist or here the one I have created for you.

  1. Nagada Sang Dhol Baaje – Ramleela
  2. Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje – Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
  3. Rangtaali – Jankee ft. Arpan Mahida
  4. Udi Udi Jaye – Raees
  5. Chhabilo – Jankee ft. Arpan Mahida
  6. Chogada – Loveyatri
  7. Shubhaarambh – Kai Po Che!
  8. Radhe Radhe – Dream Girl
  9. Odhani – Made in China
  10. Kamariya – Mitron

Heathy Foods during Fasting

Apart from all the fun, dance and colourful outfits, fasting is also an essential part of fasting and it is vital to do it in the right way as you don’t want it to take a toll on your health. There are many things that are restricted during the Navratri fast, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your health. In fact, there are a lot of healthy options out there and also I think these 9 days are the best time to give your body that much needed break and get rid of unhealthy toxins. Here are a few things that I like to have while fasting.

1.     Roasted Makhanas/Lotus Seeds

Roasted lotus seeds

Roasted Makhanas are the most common fasting food out there, thanks to their nutritional value. Just roast them for 10-15 mins until they get crunchy, add chilli powder, chaat masala and they are done. Makhanas are great for maintaining good heart health, removing toxins from the body and improving digestive health.

2.     Fruit Salad

Top view of white bowl full of fruit salad containing strawberries, blueberries, orange, kiwi, pineapple and peach

It is good to add fruits to your daily diet, but during fasting, it becomes even more important as they are the healthiest thing to consume while fasting. Fruits are great to provide your body with the much-needed energy and are a great source of vitamins. Just chop some fruits of your choice, sprinkle some chaat masala and enjoy.

3.     Dry Fruits

roasted dry fruits

Dry fruits are packed with proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and are perfect to get those extra health benefits during fasting and also help in improving the immune system. You can roast them in ghee for 10 mins or have them as it is. They are nutritional, wholesome and will keep you full for a long time.

4.     Boiled/Roasted Sweet Potato

Roasted sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are a great source of fibre, minerals & vitamins and therefore it’s nice to have them while fasting. Boil or roast the sweet potatoes for 10-15 minutes, cut them into small pieces, sprinkle chaat masala, drizzle some lemon juice if you like and enjoy your sweet-savoury chaat.

5.     Lots of water

water

Consuming extra water during fasting is essential as it keeps you hydrated. 20% of your body water level comes from food and that’s why drinking lots of water compensates for the fluids lost due to fasting. Water will also keep you full and you’ll feel less hungry. You should drink at least 7-8 litres of water while fasting.

So, here it is your complete guide to kick-start Navratri. I am all ready to enjoy the festive season to the fullest and I am sure you are too. Let me know how you like this blog and also how you celebrate Navaratri in the comments below.

The Groom’s Wedding Day Survival Kit: 10 Essential Items for Husbands-to-Be

Enough talking about the brides, it’s time we talk about the groom’s wedding day survival kit. Here are 10 essential items for all the grooms-to-be.

wedding day essentials for grooms

Most wedding survival guides on the internet tend to focus on the bride, and for good reason. The occasion is widely recognized as a woman’s Big Day. However, grooms would do well to remember that it’s one of the most important days of their lives, too, and that they aren’t as immune to last-minute mishaps as they might think. Checkout more wedding related blogs here.

For their peace of mind—as well as their brides’—we’ve put together a list of indispensable items that every groom should have readily available on his wedding day. From quick solutions to common outfit-related crises down to basic staples that might be lost or forgotten in the whirlwind days leading up to the ceremony, this groom’s survival kit leaves very few things to chance.

On-the-Go Fixes for Fashion Emergencies

A Miniature Sewing Kit

mini sewing kit

Men usually take clothing emergencies in stride. They don’t mind living with a loose button or an undone hem for a day. Grooms beware, though; not taking precautions to fix that tiny rip in your suit jacket can and will come back to haunt you. Every move you make on the day of the wedding will most likely be immortalized in film and video, so it’s worth making sure that you look your best for the cameras.

A wedding day emergency sewing kit should contain safety pins, sewing needles and thread in white, black, and your suit’s colors, a pair of scissors, some extra buttons for your shirt and jacket, and hem tape.

Stain Removers

stain removal pen

Nothing ruins a look more than an errant stain on the front of your shirt or your collar. A stain remover pen can help you get ahead of any smears, spills, and splatters. These usually contain a detergent base and hydrogen peroxide, a chemical that can break down stains without bleaching the colors out of your clothes. They’re best used on small spots from food or drink—aka the ones you’d typically encounter on a wedding. Simply apply immediately and blot, don’t rub. Rubbing will push the stain deeper into the fabric, making it more difficult to lift.

If you’re going to be wearing crisp white sneakers to your wedding, you’ll also want to keep them pristine. Experts recommend applying a sneaker protector to them right out of the box. To spot-clean your kicks onthego, use a magic eraser product. A bottle of matte white nail polish should also cover up scuffs and scratches in a pinch.

A Lint Brush or Roller

lint roller picture

Lint and hair look painfully obvious against a dark backdrop. Some guys think they only need a lint roller if they’re rocking a black suit, but lint shows up against blues and some grays, too. Keep your suit clean with a lint brush or roller. You can also use masking tape to lift lint off fabrics in the absence of those items.

A Couple of Basic Necessities

Extra Socks

socks pair

Most guys think that socksare a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at just how many men who can’t tell the difference between dress socks and gym socks. Packing an extra pair of Burlix standing over-the-calf socks isn’t too much of a hardship. With it, you can quickly rescue a buddy from wearing thick cotton socks under his suit pants, no muss and no fuss. They’re also nice to have around if you happen to step on a puddle and get your own dress socks all wet.

Extra Cuff Links

wedding cufflinks

This is yet another accessory often taken for granted. You may not forget your cuff links, but it’s never a bad idea to insure against that one friend of yours who just might. It’s also useful to have an extra pair on hand in case one of your own falls out while taking outdoor photos or during the reception.

The Day-of Grooming Kit

Deodorant

deodorant spray

Even if you don’t sweat a lot normally or are holding the wedding someplace cool like a mountain side resort, deodorant is non-negotiable. You’ll want to stay fresh for all the hugging you’re going to do! Go for dry spray antiperspirants and clear stick or gel formulas, as they leave the least amount of residue.

Breath Mints

mouth freshner

If all goes well, you’ll also be doing a lot of kissing throughout the day. Unfortunately, you probably won’t have time to step away for a quick brush once that wedding ball is rolling. Keep your breath fresh with mints; they’re a far more subtle choice than chewing gum.

Lip Balm

lip balm for men

As an adjunct to the above, kissing can actually result in drier, flaky lips that look awful in photos and feel even worse. Protect your lips with a good lip balm made with natural ingredients such as cocoa or shea butter. If you’re having a daytime wedding, go with a product that also offers sun protection.

Miscellaneous, but Still Essential!

Cash

money

You may have already pre-paid your wedding vendors, but it’s still nice to give them something extra before packing it up. Have enough cash on hand to tip your DJ, the driver, the bartender, and any other member of the staff that helped make your day so special. Hold it in a money clip to minimize bulk.

Medication

medication

The last thing you want is to get caught without relief from a headache or a queasy stomach on the day of your wedding. Stock up on pain relievers and antacids, as well as any maintenance or allergy medication that you take regularly.

Being prepared for (almost) every eventuality will allow you to enjoy the day more! We recommend putting these items in a Dopp kit or toiletry bag for easy access even as you move from one location to the next. Best wishes!

10 Accessories to Style Any Outfit

Perhaps every fashionista is aware of the “fashion burnout” phenomenon when one runs out of ideas with outfits. Well, I have experienced it more than once and luckily found solace right in my accessory collection.

It’s just about picking the right pieces and you will surely be able to amp your style in the most effortless ways. Summer or winter, there are several accessories that can come to your rescue with even the most basic outfits such as your favourite LBD or comfy denim that you would want to take a notch higher. Here is my list of accessories that will always be your best friend (besides diamonds, of course!!) 🙂 when it comes to fashion.

Necklace – A statement necklace can instantly transform your look from casual to formal and add the oomph factor that you may just need to elevate even an ordinary ensemble. And you can choose a simple gold or silver chain for chic casual dressing. A beaded, layered necklace is another in-trend accessory for all occasions

Cap – A cap is a perfect accessory if you are looking for a piece that is fashionable and utilitarian at the same time. There is so much to explore with caps, from woolly pom poms and snug beanies in winters to classic fedoras and schoolboy hats in summers. And the best part is that most of the caps are not weather-specific which means that you will literally be spoilt for choice.

Sunglasses or Eyeglasses – How can you forget your favourite shades when it comes to amping up your style! Invest in a collection of sunglasses or eyeglasses that are just right for your face shape and you’ll surely have something to play with when accessorizing your outfits at any time of the year. You could opt for the retro-cat eye sunglasses, classic aviators or oversized shapes to complement your outfits and moods.

Click Here to check some of the latest styles from EyeBuyDirect.com

Footwear- Footwear is an accessory that can make or break your ensemble. So you should bear in mind what is in-trend and what looks good with your ensemble to nail the look. Shoes and boots make ideal winter companion while sandals and slippers are great for summer dressing. Wear heels or flats according to the occasion and you’ll be able to ace on your style quotient.

Handbags – Right now, the slick bucket bags are my hot favourite and I love them for the retro vibe they bring to just any outfit. You can pair your casual look with a sleek Hobo, a classic tote or a cool crossbody bag while a glittery clutch or a shimmering sling bag makes an ideal companion for a night-out ensemble.

Belts- A belt on your dresses or jeans can surely get you all the attention you deserve, besides the utility it offers. While a classic black patent leather will never go out of vogue, you can play with colours, widths and materials if you want to be more experimental with your look. And don’t forget to coordinate it with your footwear and handbag!

Earrings- The right earrings are perhaps the most foolproof way to add a punch to your casual and formal dressing. Stock up on hoops, studs and danglers and you’ll definitely have something or the other every time you feel like going an extra mile to look stylish.

Watch- Watch your watch because it surely has the potential to take your casual and formal dressing to the next level. I recommend adding the staples like a leather strap watch, one with a gold chain and a studded one to your collection because these will have you covered for casual, formals and holiday accessorizing.

Hair Accessories- Hair accessories are the favourite part of accessory shopping because I always find something that I fall in love with and still does not cost a fortune. I love to wear the studded hairpins on parties while the pretty bows and bands are reserved for casual outings.

Rings- Though you wouldn’t think much about rings when it comes to amping up your style, they actually have a lot to do with power dressing. For me, the right ring can be an attention grabber. Of course, you will have your wedding or engagement ring on, but you can slip on a large statement piece to have all eyes on you.

Do experiment with your accessories and you’ll surely be able to nail the look like a trendy diva!

Cool Cafes in Mumbai that We Love.

The financial capital of Mumbai is a melting pot and a growing food hub in India. Every nook and corner has cafes that are teeming with either professional’s meeting to discuss business, friends sitting to catch up over coffee or family members visiting nostalgic nooks for a satisfying Sunday Brunch. And while the list is endless, we have narrowed it down to those cafes that should probably be at the top of your itinerary when you visit Mumbai.

  1. Kala Ghoda Café

Kala Ghoda (Black Stallion) is one of the city’s more iconic areas that is buzzing with history and culture. Perhaps, this is why the café has taken on the same name, because it truly takes on these characteristics of the neighbourhood. Kala Ghoda Café is set in a 20th century barn with rustic furnishings and modern amenities. The cuisine is a mix of Continental delights as well as more of the local Parsi favourites and has a plethora of brews to choose from. It has also recently opened its own wine bar where one can enjoy both Indian and international choices. In support of culture, the café also occasionally transforms in a gallery to promote local talent, and makes for a great place to unwind with friends or a rendezvous with someone special.

Must Try: Akuri (Spicy scrambled-eggs, Parsi style), Salli Boti with Oat and Flax Roti (Parsi Mutton Curry with wheat-free bread), Champa Infusion Tea (Organic Frangipani Flower Petals served in a Pot) and Iced Mochachino

2. Café Mondegar

Standing proud since 1932, Café Mondegar derives its inspiration from retro American diners and is the first café of the city with a vintage jukebox that still booms through the establishment today. Enviously located on the ever-buzzing Colaba Causeway, it is bordered with colourful shops of jewellery, handbags, juttis and more, and is a favourite for both locals and tourists. If you happen to visit the café for breakfast, don’t be surprised to see youngsters flooding the place, dressed up in their finery from the night before – it’s a favourite pit-stop for them to refuel after a long night of hard partying. The vibe is completely relaxed, with murals of Mario Miranda plastered across all walls and classic songs playing all day long. The cuisine is a mix of American Diner picks, Indian favourites and the famous Indo-Chinese derivatives. And each of these pairs well with everyone’s favourite – a pint of good old Kingfisher beer, that the servers are ever ready to help you with a refill.

Must Try: Bacon Wrapped Prawns, Arrabiatta Penne Pasta and Mondy’s Special Steak Cheese Burger

3. Leopold Café

Yet another icon of Mumbai, Leopold Café has witnessed some of the most tragic nights of Mumbai city, one of the main targets of the 26/11 attacks. And yet, it stands tall even today! One can even see the scars of battle till today, where the storm of bullets has left its mark on the walls. But that’s about where the tragedy ends. Again, situated on the bustling Colaba Causeway, the café is just as popular as its neighbour that we spoke of above. The difference in the offerings are not miles away, but if you come here, make sure to pick from the menu of classic Indian dishes that everyone loves to chow down, with pitchers of your favourite beer. The next time you visit the city, insist on the locals to take you here!

Must Try: Cheese Chilli Toast, Hakka Mushroom and Mutton Keema Pav

4. Suzette

Let’s move out of local history, and take a culinary trip to France in Mumbai, shall we? Suzette is an authentic French bakery, café and bistro run by French expats and chefs, who have filled their counters with scrumptious boules and loaves of bread, luscious French pastries and satiating sandwiches, all made from scratch with love and commitment in their very own kitchen. The ingredients for each of their products are meticulously chosen to give one a true taste of France. Located in the more happening suburb of Bandra, in Mumbai, this little café has had a mighty impact, with everyone from the neighbourhood making a pit stop for a coffee run or a gratifying, yet healthy meal if they are feeling peckish.

Le 15 first started out as a small patisserie serving delicious pastries, cupcakes and macarons. Today, it has its various outlets dotted all across the city, serving patisserie delights, French-inspired nibbles and great coffee. The café at every nook and corner of the city is a great place to re-energize yourself with some food and brew before you take on the rest of your busy day. Bon Appétit!

Must Try: Chilli Beetroot Fettucine Aglio A Olio, Avocado Croissant, the Marie, Justina and Julia desserts, and Pink Latte

Attached to the famous Prithvi Theatre that showcases plays, live performances and other cultural facets of the city, Prithvi Café is a quaint and tranquil corner in Mumbai, in the western suburb, Juhu. Splayed out in the open, this little serene place of heaven is surrounded by bamboo and greenery, and comes alive at night with paper lanterns strung along with the trees. You will find many a creative mind here, mingling to bring their vision to life and their creativity to the forefront. It is also, however, a favourite hangout spot for people of all ages, from 18 to 80.

7. Grandmama’s Café

In case you are feeling particularly low or homesick on your travels in Mumbai, we suggest stopping by at an outlet of Grandmama’s Café that can be found at various neighbourhoods in the city. After all, there is nothing more comforting than a meal cooked by your grandma, and these little joy-filled kitchens are an ode to grandmothers all over the world. Serving classic dishes straight from the stove of your childhood, everything at Grandmama’s Café is sure to perk you up and put you in a better mood. With quaint settings and vintage furnishings, it’s like a blanket of comfort in a hug or in a bowl! And if that wasn’t enough, they now even feature Grandpa’s Den – a little nook with plush leather seating for you to sip on 12 famous cocktails that your grandfather learnt of on his travels. With gluten-free and vegan and keto-friendly options, it has definitely become a hub for those seeking a healthier lifestyle. The beachy vibes and rustic stone walls and large windows, make you want to sit there for hours either with a companion or in your own company. If someone you know has been to junior college in Mumbai, then this café on our list needs no introduction. Candies is every 17-year-old Mumbaikars hangout spot, and for all working men and ladies, it is a nostalgic retreat for long conversations over coffee. Although there are three branches in Bandra, the soul of Candies remains the flagship café @ Mac Ronells – a Portuguese style villa. The three levels of this building are filled with vintage posters and unique mosaics and tiles, Moroccan lamps that make you feel like you are on a Mediterranean holiday. And most importantly, nothing beats the taste of your favourite dishes from your late teenage years.

10 Things To Do in Bath, Weekend Getaway

When wanderlust strikes, we typically flock to far off exotic locations which promise novel experiences and ample scope of digital cataloging. This summer I decided to break the pattern and visit someplace close by; you never realize how little you know about your home turf until you vacation there and explore it like a tourist.

About 150 km west of London, Bath, Somerset is a well-frequented tourist destination, which I had never yet visited. We decided to head there for our annual summer break and we did not regret our decision! Bath is a melting pot of diverse histo-cultural influences; discovering its many wonders was a very exciting prospect indeed.

We spent a considerable amount of time at Bath and tried to explore all its nooks and crannies. Here’s my take on the top 10 things to do in Bath when vacationing:

Below is also the Travel Vlog from our Bath Staycation – Hope you enjoy watching it.

Visit the Roman Baths

The Roman Baths complex is arguably the most popular tourist attraction of the city. It ranks high amongst the best-preserved Roman remains in the world. At present, the site has four features of interest; the Sacred Spring, the Temple of Sulis Minerva, the Roman Bath House, and the Museum.

As historic records go, the Temple of Sulis Minerva was created sometime in 60 – 70 AD, followed by construction of the baths in the subsequent 300 years. The hot springs of the bathing complex were presumably a site of recreation and relaxation for the Romans, and interestingly, serve a similar purpose in contemporary times.

When you visit the Roman Baths, you get to explore the bathing complex, with its fascinating features like ancient changing rooms and tepid water plunge pools. But for me, the highlight was tasting the spa water here which is touted as being therapeutic in nature, enriched with the goodness of 43 minerals! You can taste the water from a spa fountain stationed in the west baths or a traditional fountain maintained in the Pump Room here.

A bonus treat is the wide range of archeological finds and ancient relics displayed in the museum. Do explore the museum if you’re interested in the historic significance of this site.

Relax at the Thermae Bath Spa

The epitome of historic confluence with present-day reality, the Thermae Bath Spa proffers a unique experience to visitors. It combines the authenticity of ancient spa water with a modern, luxuriant exterior, which is quite honestly, the best of both worlds.

The New Royal Bath is at the heart of the Thermal Bath Spa, enveloped in glass with fine aesthetics. It encloses two natural thermal baths which are fed by hot springs in the same vein as ancient Roman practice. But that’s not all. The Spa also has a separate open-air, roof-top pool, another indoor pool, two steam rooms, an Infrared Sauna, several relaxation arenas, spa treatments rooms and a few other surprises.

It’s safe to say that the Thermae Bath Spa promises an unforgettable experience of rejuvenation that is relaxing and glamorous in equal measure. In my opinion, this is a great place of a girl’s day out!

Explore Bath Abbey

Bath Abbey is a beautiful Cathedral with imposing Gothic architecture and an a curiously, alluring history. Though it was founded in the 7th century as a site of Christian prayer and worship, it’s current form can be attributed to major restoration work pioneered by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the late 19th century. The vast expanse of the Cathedral is able to house 1200 people with secular ceremonies, lectures, and concerts taking held here regularly. You can drop by here for spiritual pursuit or merely to explore this historic, architectural gem.

Go Boating on River Avon

River Avon is a stunning example of nature’s beauty and boating across its waters is incredibly soothing. You can hop on a boat form the Bath Boating Station and enjoy the gently lapping waters in the navigable section of the river. You can watch the lovely scenery passing by and spot kingfishers, herons, moorhens, mallards, and other beautiful wildlife on the way. If you plan accordingly, you can boat up to the Bathampton Mill for a meal or snack.

Stroll Through the Royal Crescent

The Royal Crescent is emblematic of the opulent lifestyle of the rich and famous in Georgian times. A marvelous example of post-medieval British architecture, the Royal Crescent comprises a series of 30 terraced houses, poised in a semi-circular arrangement, which accords it this name. Having been constructed over 240 years ago, the stone façade is as was over two centuries ago. If you want to delve deeper into the history of the Royal Crescent, you can visit the No.1 Royal Crescent Museum which is a shrine to its past.

Enjoy a Hot Air Balloon Ride

Hot air balloon rides are a popular tourist activity in Bath. There are several service providers that offer such rides, which all begin from the Royal Victoria Park. The direction of your flight is determined by the wind pattern but rest assured that the view is going to be spectacular in any case. Hot air balloon rides are great romantic or family recreation, and if you have young kids, they will surely have a memorable time.

Visit the Jane Austen Center

The famous English woman writer – Jane Austen – is immortalized in the permanent exhibition set up at the Jane Austen Center, Bath. For avid readers and Austen fans, this place provides interesting insights into her life and her writing, especially how life at Bath, her place of residence, is reflected in her work. The most fascinating of all is a life-size wax statue of the author on display, which is presumed to be the closest likeness to the celebrated novelist.

Explore the Bath Botanical Gardens

Bath’s Botanical Gardens were established in 1887 and remain to be a delightful expanse of nature’s many wonders. There is a vast plethora of trees, bushes, herbs, insects, birds, and wildlife here. The added bonus of a picturesque stream, a rock garden, a pool, a scented walk, and an aerial walkway make the Bath Botanical Gardens a mini wonderland for nature buffs.

Discover the Delights of the Parade Gardens

If your lust for natural beauty is not satiated by the Botanical Gardens, the Parade Gardens will get the job done. This garden area, in the heart of the city, is a tranquil spot from which the surrounding architecture, which in invariably extraordinary in any part of Bath, may be observed without distraction. This park has had many historic figures walk through it, has hosted many concerts and events, and even been a wedding location for many. Revel in the richness of the manicured greens and groomed flower beds.

Sign Up for the Open Bus Bath Tour

Bath has an extensive network of Hop-On-Hop-Off open bus tours which are lovely way to explore the city. These tours take you across all tourist attractions, allowing you to explore them at your own pace. Best part is, the panoramic views you are privy to from an open bus give you a different perspective and appreciation for the city. If you are visiting Bath with family, open bus tours are a great way to sightsee!

So, these were my top picks for things to do at Bath. Do let us know if you enjoyed visiting them too!

Top 10 Personal Favourite Outfits for 2017

To do a little breakdown, I decided to do a post on the top 10 outfits for 2017. In this year, we have discovered latest trends in fashion, various new styles emerged. To survive the reality of the everyday life, Fashion is the armour. Fashion in 2017 might be a repetition of few ideas, but what makes it new is the way we have put together in 2017. Consider the trends of mixing of Western and Indian to create a traditional look. The way styling has been transformed in this year was much more interesting than fashion was. Let’s get started and explore the best ten trends for this year.

New Year Party Outfit

December Time, Party Time. It is the most beautiful time of the year. For this party season, I chose a dress loaded with sparkle and loads of style. The feather printed asymmetrical dress is an eye-catcher. Blink the party night in this fantastic outfit. Own the night and stand out in style with this Arabesque dress.

Effortless Party Dressing

Life is a party. So, dress like that. The name says it all about the outfit I selected. It’s just as effortless as it could be. You just need to put on that party dress. The sheer plum swing dress has detailed corner and sheer long sleeves. The outfit by Lavanya Coodly is in itself a complete dress with which you don’t need any accessories. Add shine and confidence to your look with the glamour of this outfit.

Saree Lehenga Trend

Another smooth and elegant trend that emerged this year was of Lehenga Saree. Playing with the conventional style of lehenga and saree, the combination of lehenga and saree is comfortable to handle and convenient to wear. This unique fusion is creative and adorable. I firmly believe that this experimental trend will continue in 2018 because of its fashion trends as a Lehenga saree serves all the purposes. They are vibrant and make us look even more stylish.

Red- The colour of Love

For every woman, there is a shade of red. Adding a twist to my outfits is my kind of style. So, I experimented with this traditional look of Indian lehenga and gave it a modern twist. Pairing skirt with the peplum top turns out to be a great combination. The combination not only serves as a purpose of a Lehenga. You can create numerous looks with the top and the skirt individually. Create your style and let it be unique to yourself.

Out of the Box Festive Styling

Always remember that Glamour never takes a day off. This style is perfect for those who cannot understand the complexity of wearing a saree. A little breakdown of the conventional form of saree. Instead of a blouse, I styled saree with a crop top. This was an out of the box style that possesses modern style and takes care of traditional values.

Festive Makeup – Bohemian Summer Look

Don’t be afraid to sparkle. And this one was about the glitter makeup look I created for the Godvia Festival. The glitter look stands out as a compliment to my outfit. This time, I chose shades of mauve. Playing with glitter is fun, and I will create more looks with glitter in future. Go Insane, Throw some glitter and Make it rain.

Holiday Outfit
Holiday Season is all about the Sun, Sand and Sea. A maxi dress is a perfect piece for this breezy mood. Just put on the dress along with the earrings and the sandals and you’re ready to go. A Maxi Dress is a perfect partner for the beaches. You must include this versatile piece in your Holiday Bag.

Evening Party Look

2017 gave us a fantastic trend of asymmetrical dresses. These type of dresses enhances the proportions of a female body. They are so stylish and trendy and are an excellent choice for summers. Ace the summer evening party with this adorable look. Let your outfit be at work and steal the limelight.

Off-Shoulder Trend and Tassel Love

When we look back at 2017, off-shoulders is a trend that ultimately ruled the year. The trend increased, and more styling patterns emerged with it. This versatile trend has several options regarding patterns and designs. The off-shoulder top I wore had colourful tassel detailing on it. Adding a necklace to the top added more elegance to my look. You can style them based on the occasion.

Summer Wedding Floral Lehenga

It is a fact that Fashion can be bought. What you must possess is the Style. So, again the Fashionista in me decided to play with my outfit and thereby, I created the look. A floral skirt with a crop top along with bright mauve dupatta. Another charming look which is neither overdressed nor underdressed. A perfect way to create a traditional look with this modern pair of outfits.

With this, it’s a wrap for 2017. These were the some of my personal favourite trends of 2017. It was all about the Fashion of 2017 and the way I styled it. Looking forward to new trends in 2018. Which outfit did you like the most? Let me know in the comments section below.

Beach Beauty Essentials

Summer breeze, the sun, sand and the sea all call for a beach day.

With the weather getting better, you can’t stay indoors and the beach is a perfect getaway. But packing for the beach can be tricky. Also, the sun and sea don’t get along with skin and hair very well. Sun burns, tans, frizzy unruly hair and many other issues can ruin your vacation and that’s the last thing you want. Be a beach beauty with these must have beauty products in your beach bag.

Here is a snap of the products I packed into my bag for my last beach holiday.
Take a leaf from my book of advice and don’t forget to take these must have products with you.

Be a beach beauty with these must have beauty products in your beach bag:

  1. Sunscreen: Wearing sunscreen every day is an unwritten rule in the book of skin care so the beach is no exception. You may use SPF 20 – 30 for regular use but for beach holiday go for a sunscreen with UV A/B protection with SPF 50 or more which is water resistant.
  1. Tinted moisturizer with SPF: If you are not in the mood for applying a foundation and want to go for a minimalistic makeup routine then go for a light non-greasy formula when picking a tinted moisturizer. It helps even out the skin tone and keeps your face hydrated and also protects you when stepping out.
  1. Primer with SPF: For a long lasting picture perfect make up invest in a light weight primer with SPF for skin protection. The primer will give you an even base for your makeup and also help cover any redness because of sun exposure easily.
  1. Powder based foundation: Cream based or liquid foundation can give you an oily finish or a melted look. Powder based foundations are great during the summer to achieve a sweat proof makeup look.
  1. Lip balm: The last thing you want is dry and chapped lips. It’s important to moisturize your lips even during the summer. I prefer using a lip balm with SPF, especially if I’m stepping out in the sun. Also, your lipstick or gloss looks way better on hydrated lips.
  1. Blue eyeliner: Ditch the black eyeliner on your beach holiday. Summers are all about vibrant colors. Let your makeup reflect that summer vibe with colored eyeliners.
  1. Sea salt hairspray: The sun exposure, dips in the salty ocean and chlorine filled pools can take a toll on your hair. To add to that you often end up using styling tools to avoid frizzy hair because of the humidity. Switch your styling tools and products for a sea salt spray and flaunt those beachy waves effortlessly.
  1. Body Mist: A body mist is light and perfect for the beach. You can carry a small bottle in your beach bag for a refreshing spray whenever you are feeling sticky or sweaty. Get a floral or zesty fragrance for the summer.
  2. Conditioner: With all the sea salt and humidity in the air, a good conditioner is a must to make sure your locks well cared for no matter what and I have chosen the Redken Volumising conditioner to make sure my hairs are not flat.
  3. Hat, Sunglasses & Book & Magazines – These are some of the accessories that are a must in your beach bag to give you right protection from the sun and also some entertainment when you are sun bathing on the beach.

Are there any products that you never travel without on your beach holiday? Let me know in the comments below.

“Motherhood: All love begins and ends here”- Robert Browning

How beautifully do these words explain the magic of this precious relationship! Mums are always special for children, and the bond they share grows stronger with every passing day. Winter Outfit Styling Tips

There’s something about the winters that makes you fall in love with the season. The hot cocoa, snuggly nights by the fire place, Christmas, the snow and winter wear which makes the season special. But winter fashion can be tricky. You can easily look like a mess or freeze to death if you don’t get your outfit right. Many of us sometime think that winter fashion is boring and you have to replace your cute floral dresses with grey and dull sweaters. But winter fashion can also be interesting with a few tips and tricks. This winter let’s transform your winter wardrobe with these styling tips:
Skinny Jeans: Skinny Jeans are a must have for this season as they are extremely versatile, keep you warm and give a slender look to your outfit. Be it ripped or leather, one can never go wrong with skinny jeans. Team up a pair of skinny jeans with ankle booties and a cashmere sweater for a casual look. Skinny jeans or straight cut pants also look great with oversized coats without making your outfit look bulky. If you prefer wide legged pants then opt for a more structured coat and wedges for a chic look.

Wrap/Scarves: Wraps and Scarves can be your best friend this season. They can make any outfit stylish and fun in minutes. So invest in a variety of colorful and textured wraps and scarves. Also don’t be afraid to experiment with the different styles of wearing a scarf. Make the scarf the hero of the outfit by looping it around a plain black dress and transform your look.

Boots: Boots are a must have this season. Ankle boots are great for daily wear; you can pair them with almost any outfit. Be it a maxi dress and a jacket or turtleneck top and skinny jeans. Over the knee boots are also extremely stylish. Pair them with a printed skirt, a knitted dress or even over your skinny jeans for a trendy look.

Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks are great for winters. They keep you warm and can be worn for office wear as well as casual wear. Tuck in a turtleneck top with your favorite pair of trousers and a well fitted blazer with loafers for a stylish office look. You can also wear it by itself with a pair of jeans and some long necklaces for everyday wear.

Leather Jacket: A leather jacket is a wardrobe essential. Create a biker girl look by teaming it up with a pair of knee length boots, skinny jeans, and a graphic tee. Or pair it over a floral dress for a cool and casual look. You can invest in a basic black jacket or opt for colors like brown, tan, maroon or camel.

Jumpers: Cashmere jumpers are vital for winter. You can dress them up or down easily during the season. They are also extremely versatile, classy and look great with jeans, midi skirts, or dresses. For a formal look wear it with a collared shirt, a pair of trousers and a trench coat. You can also wear them with jeans, a statement bag and peep-toe ankle boots. For windy days you can team it up with a wrap to keep yourself warm.

Hats: Hats are like scarves. They add an element of fun to your outfit instantly. They can transform a boring black sweater to something chic if paired correctly. Team up a beanie with a formal dress, a trench coat and heels for office or pair a fedora with wide legged pants, loafers and a cashmere sweater for relaxed look.

Suede Dresses: Suede, Wool or velvet are the fabrics of the season. Style a suede dress with a cropped jacket, ankle length booties, leg warmers or stockings and a fedora hat for a boho look. You can also invest in suede or velvet skirts in bright hues like red, blue or maroon and create fun looks.

Statement Coat: Add a pop of color to your neutral wardrobe by investing in a statement coat. They can be oversized in vibrant hues like pink, orange or red or be textured and in neutral shades like black and grey. I have created a look with my statement coat by teaming it up with a pastel pink blouse, straight cut jeans and peep-toe boots for a casual look.

However, that does not mean that you compromise on staying in trend.

A blend of your personal style and emerging styles is the best way to go! It would be important to note that more than 73% Indian Brides who live abroad prefer to have their Wedding outfit custom- made to their taste (Source- Indian Hanger).

Keeping this in mind, we’ve listed down our tips on what you should look for when picking out your trousseau. The outfits featured in this post are available on IndianHanger.com.

  1. Play with colours: Gold, Beige and hues of Green are the new Reds. Elegant beige and gold Lehengas with ornate gold embroidery is sure to make any bride look divine! Since it is a classic ensemble, it is suitable for any Bride, irrespective of your personal style. Opting for these combinations also makes the piece versatile, as it can be worn at a later date as well.
  2. Fabrics: You can choose from silk, georgette, and even Banarasi silks with zari work to make a statement. Team your gold saree with a pop of colour in your blouse or choli to break the monotony. The highlight of such outfits is
that you can match them with any kind of jewellery; be it polki, antique gold or diamonds to complete the Royal look.
  3. Add a twist to your traditional outfits: Mix and match and play around your wardrobe a little to create a style statement. You can team a traditional lehenga with an embroidered off-shoulder or cold shoulder blouse just like the runway hits by Sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra. This gives you plenty of room to show off your heirloom polki jewellery or tiered necklaces. Printed or embroidered crop tops in beautiful fabrics such as silk and brocade can be teamed with modern dhoti pants, sarees, high waisted skirts or lehengas to add versatility to your collection.
  4. Indo-western silhouettes: It’s time for Anarkalis and Lehengas to move over, so that we can say Hello to Gowns! Saree gowns and draped gowns are sure shot head-turners during a cocktail or reception party. You can also play around with a one shoulder cut that flares along the hem, anarkali gowns or organza pleats this season. They blend very well with traditional Indian accessories, whilst making a style statement of their own. Just a tip to keep in mind: Make sure that they do not weigh you down as that can be a dampner!
  5. Jacketed in style: Re-usable separates like jackets are quite a hit when teamed with palazzo pants, skirts, lehengas or even a saree. Choose from a heavily embroidered open jacket in dark hues such as brown, navy blue, maroon or black to go along with a simple saree with a gold border. Jackets are the go-to option for a Sangeet, as they are comfortable and will enable you to dance the night away!
  6. Get some velvet: The soft and luxe velvet fabric is a must have for every bride. Watch the intricate zari work/ embroidery come alive in velvet! If you prefer a minimalistic look, you can start by pairing your embellished saree with velvet blouses. If you are going for a heavier look, you can try an all over velvet embroidered lehenga. Believe me, it will make you look drop dead gorgeous!
  7. Accessories: You can always team your outfit with traditional polki, diamonds and gold. But how about adding some chand maang tikkas to look like the Royal Queen that you truly are! Try a chunky bracelet for your reception party and give the bangles a break. The Kamarbandh or the waistband has been a runway hit too. You can choose from plain, narrow, printed or embellished Kamarbandh’s in all shapes and sizes. It can be worn as a belt around your waist or under your blouse to give it that high waisted silhouette.

My final tip would be to pick pieces that have a timeless appeal, rather than choosing ones that are a runway trend. Most importantly, remember to ensure that you feel comfortable in your skin as the outfits have to be worn by YOU. Whilst you can follow trends, make sure you choose ensembles that make your heart skip a beat every time that you see them!

My first post of the year, is an advice for how you can get lead a healthy and happier life by following those 10 simple tips.  So,  Here’s the Top 10 tips from me For a Healthy, Happier You!

For A Healthy, Happy You

  • Wear only those clothes that make you happy and you are comfortable in. If you are conscious and/or figety in an outfit, it won’t look good, no matter how stylish it is.
  • Follow only those fashion trends that appeal to you and fit within your budget. Remember, the classics can look equally glamorous if you wear them right.
  • Walk with your back straight and head held high. You cannot make a good impression with bad posture.
  • Every once in a while, go for a day or night out just with your girls – a little bit of gossiping and a dose of laughter can do wonders for the mind.
  • Do not let others’ opinion on your clothes, body or hair matter. You must strive to make yourself
  • Pamper yourself with a day full of luxurious beauty treatments every once in a while – it will leave you fresh and in high spirits for sure.
  • Keep your wardrobe, dresser and shoe closet well-organized – your fashion woes are sure to get halved when everything is clutter-free.
  • If your mind is completely fixated on a dress or heels or perfume, buy it even if it isn’t within your budget. Reduce your other expenses to make up for the deficit, and revel in the satisfaction of having that one thing you couldn’t get your mind off of.
  • Put extra effort into your appearance if you’re having a bad day. Looking good can lift your spirit immensely, and of course, compliments pouring in will make you happier.
  • Always wear a fragrance that you really, really like. When you smell good, you are sure to be in a better mood.
  • Most importantly, smile as much as possible – it is the only accessory that costs nothing.
