Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio, London Shopping Experience

I visited the Pernia’s Pop-Up studio, London to try some outfits, and it is a one-stop-shop for all the wedding and Indian wear shopping.

Designer Seema Gujral

Shopping is always fun, but nothing is more exciting than Indian bridal shopping. And what makes bridal shopping even more exciting is finding everything one needs from outfits to jewellery in one place. All the Asians settled in the UK will agree with me that shopping for Indian wear is a bit tricky here as there are not a lot of good options. One has to do a lot of research and go from shop to shop to find everything they need. I recently visited the multi-designer Pernia’s Pop-Up studio in London to try some outfits, and I am happy to report that our search is over. It is a one-stop-shop for all the wedding and Indian wear shopping. Checkout more Indian bridal shopping blog here.

Location

Pernia's Pop-Up shop
Designer Yashodhara

Located in London’s luxury shopping district, Mayfair, Pernia’s Pop-Up studio is home to some of the leading Indian designers. This is Pernia’s first international store and they have a beautiful collection of outfits to choose from. No matter what someone is looking for, there is something for everyone. With gorgeous lehengas, elegant anarkalis, chic indo-western pieces, and stunning accessories, Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio is a traditional wear heaven for all the would-be brides and fashion lovers out there.

Collection & designers at the Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio

Designer Abu Sandeep
Pernias Pop-Up Studio, London

The thing that I love the most about the collection is that it’s not just limited to heavier pieces, there are light outfits as well, that is ideal for smaller functions or evening parties. The collection is carefully selected and there is a perfect combination of pretty prints and edgy embroideries.

Designer Anita Dongre

Some of the designers available at the studio are Payal Singhal, Anita Dongre, Masaba, Abu Sandeep, Kalista, Aisha Rao, Yashodhara, Seema Gujral, Nupur Kanoi, Anushree Reddy, Tarun Tahilani, and more. Women’s clothing is not the only thing they have, there are great options for men as well. So, the grooms get to have some fun too.

Services they offer

Pernia Pop-Up shop

Pernia’s has an online store too, but I think being at a physical store is an entirely different experience. One gets to look at the outfits, see what they like the best, and then make an informed decision to buy them. There is a beautiful trial room at the studio, where one can try on the outfits. They have jewellery, footwear, and clutches too, so it’s easy to see what the final look will look like after adding all the accessories. In my opinion, it’s always a good idea to try and buy heavy Indian outfits, as they are an investment and we wouldn’t want to go wrong with those.

Designer Aisha Rao

They offer fitting services as well and there is also an option to get an outfit customised as per our preference. If we like something and want it in a different size, colour, or style, we can order and if it’s doable, they’ll get it made. I think it’s amazing to have a specially made designer outfit in our wardrobe.

Designer Nupur Kanoi

I had a great time at Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio and it lived up to my expectations. I loved the collection and was so mesmerized by the outfits. Whenever I have to shop for Indian wear next, I am going to buy it from them. If you are in London or are looking to buy good, designer Indian clothes in the UK, I would recommend you to check out Pernia’s Pop-Up studio. You won’t be disappointed, I promise.

Indian Wedding Outfit Inspirations

The big fat Indian wedding is a celebration of two souls coming together and also the time to bring on your Fashion A-game! Looking back on some of the outfits I have seen over the last few months, here are some suggestions you can take inspiration from. For this piece, we are covering five outfits from the more commonly loved categories of Indian wear – lehengas and sarees.

Ornate Foliage

This Payal Singal gold and deep green lehenga set comes with an ornate v-neck sleeveless blouse and a deep back that can be fastened at the back, and is adorned with heavy gold floral embroidery. The A-line skirt is made with layers of pale gold net and an overlay of a stripe-like design and embroidery of gold foliage on emerald fabric.

This pattern also runs on the borders of the sheer-lightweight dupatta, which ties the whole look together. The dupatta also has tiny embellishments scattered over the sheer net fabric, to tie the whole look together.

Fresh Mint, Anyone?

Mint may sound like an unusual choice, in a sea of vibrant or dark coloured lehengas, but this one is a show-stopper! With modest, elbow length sleeves and a scoop neck, the ‘choli’ comes alive with embroidery in rich colour and motifs of peacock feathers in gold. This pattern continues on the front-central portion of the skirt, while the rest of the ‘gher’ is dotted with deep colourful Indian motifs on the pale mint background, making it eye-catching, yet, no too loud. It also comes with a sheer dupatta, that is bordered with navy tassels to mimic the colour from the motifs on the bodice of the outfit.

You Can Never go Wrong with Pink!

This fresh pink piece is as much of a standout at an evening event as at a day function. The spaghetti blouse, although like the other also has colourful beading and embroidery details, it stands out because of the ruffle fabric that effortlessly flow. The full princess skirt, has midnight-blue and silver tassels running in symmetric vertical lines right from the waist, and meets up with more vibrant motifs at the hem.

You can also opt to wear this one without a dupatta, that won’t come in the way when you are breaking a leg on the dancefloor. One less thing to worry about! For a bit of fun and contrast, you can complete this look with a rani pink lip.

The Modern Traditional

A hand-painted silk saree is always special and the beautiful contrast of beige and marron is a classic combination. It is perfect for a traditional day time function, but can also be embellished for a more edgy look. Pleat up the ‘pallu’ and fasten a black belt around, for a modern take, which also makes it practical as it secures everything in place, without you having to worry about the fabric shifting too much.

Royalty with a Touch of Glam

This deep purple georgette saree is gorgeous as is and can be worn just like that at any function. Tiered ruffles at the hem and on the ‘pallu’ give it a modern, almost undone, look, and the V-neck halter blouse completes the silhouette. But the piece de resistance is the beaded jacket, in different shades of purple and silver. It is also very practical for more chilly climates or for a touch of more modesty to the look.

So, which one of these do you have your eyes on?

Indian Wedding Looks in Trend this Season

The wedding season is just around the corner and brides-to-be couldn’t be more excited about the outfits they would flaunt on the countless functions that Indian weddings are so famous for. Whether it’s going to be an intimate affair or a big fat Indian wedding, you wouldn’t want to settle for anything mediocre. And after the captivating looks that the celebrity brides have showcased in the last year, it’s time to get inspired with your sartorial choices. Knowing the latest trends Kalki Fashion is all set to keep you a step ahead than others this wedding season. Attention!!  All the brides to be and her oh! So pretty bridesmaids, here’s the hottest bridal trends for the coming season!

Pastel love

Why go for the usual reds, pinks, maroons, and magentas for your wedding dress when this season is all about subtle colors. Pastel trend is a total keeper. The Indian brides who wish to break the conventions with colors should definitely opt for a stunning designer salwar kameez in unusual hues like mint green, beige, lavender or peach for your Roka ceremony and you’re sure to steal the show. And, if you are the sister of the bride there wouldn’t be anything better than a pastel bridesmaid lehenga.

The Hand Embroidered Saga

While brides are permitted to go subtle with the hues, they cannot compromise with the embroidery part of their outfits. Look for a heavily embellished bridal lehenga for your big day because no one deserves more attention than you do. So, let your outfit steal the spotlight with its detailing. By the way, have you heard about the “Moment Lehenga”? Kalki Fashion lets you customize your wedding lehenga with your special moments embroidered on it. Every lehenga at Kalki Fashion is hand embellished and is intricated with utmost detailing glorifying its majestic story.

The Evergreen Sarees

What could beat the grace of a yard saree? Absolutely nothing. The evergreen saree is one such fabulous ensemble that every girl lines up in her wardrobe that she plans to pick for auspicious Indian functions and occasions. Sarees have always been in trend and will always be. If you want to steer clear of bridal hues for at least one occasion, pick an elegant Designer Saree with a sexy blouse to stun your beau on the cocktail night. Pair it with sleek jewelry and you’ll definitely shine the brightest.

Fairytale Romance

Be it engagement, cocktail party or a fairytale look for the grand reception, gowns are always a go-to choice. One trend that’s making gown in demand is the much talked about ruffled panels and frilled layers, Indian brides love it. One can find plenty of feminine elements while exploring stunning wedding sarees or designer bridal lehengas online or in a bridal boutique. But then, what about living your fairytale moment? Why not look like a dream, straight from the fantasy land while you walk in your long flowy bridal gown for your grand reception party.

The Pataka Bride

Another trend that you cannot just ignore this wedding season is the unusual, stylish cuts and the fancy drapes. Whether it is a lehenga or a saree that you plan to wear on your wedding functions or in your BFF’s Shaadi all you wish to look is elegant and graceful. I would recommend you to go for a contemporary style lehenga that is cut to flaunt your curves to perfection. For all those bold brides who wish to add a touch of glamour to your traditional look must try the fusion styles. Now that you know what’s in this season’s trend, rock your wedding with these mesmerizing Bride and Baraat styles.

Yes, you should prioritize the outfits you feel comfortable in but be open to current trends. Just go ahead and experiment because you’ll not live this day again!

My Favourite Indian Festive Looks

Now that the Indian wedding season is in full fervor, it’s time to get your wardrobe ready for the celebration. This is one time of the year when every Indian woman wants to look her “traditional” best, with stunning outfits and jewelry that define the exuberance and gaiety that the grand Indian festivals are so well-known for.

Like all the divas out there, this is perhaps the most awaited season for me as it gives me the opportunity to shine in my traditional avatar. Every look is a celebration for me, as I get to be creative with my zaris and gotas and heavy, ethnic jewelry as well. This year, I have styled some amazing looks that I can flaunt during the festivities. Each of these looks has a distinct vibe as versatility is my mantra for the Festive Look

Sophistication Personified

This ivory and gold lehenga from House of Masaba is pure bliss as it personifies sophistication in subtleness. This stunning outfit stands out without craving for attention. The checkered Chanderi dupatta in gold gives it just the right dose of shine. What I really love about this lehenga is that its color, which is so different from the vibrant hues that hallmark the Indian festivities. It is right for the bride who wants to steal the show on mehendi or reception party

I’ve teamed it with a pearl choker and earrings from Esfir Jewels. These pieces are a perfect blend of tradition and modernity, making them just right to complete this look. For hair and makeup, I’ve kept the look natural, with loose curls and just a hint of gloss on the lips.

Regal in Pink

Ace the festive look with this regal pink Anarkali from Reeth designer collection. A lovely refreshing shade of pink combined with royal blue makes a perfect pairing for the festive season. This charming attire is my favorite for the day look because it is bright yet soothing. And Anarkali has always been my favorite style because it is so feminine and flowy. Just the attire to wear as a wedding guest or for the sister-of-the-bride look for smaller functions!

For jewelry, I’ve picked these gorgeous contemporary pearl earrings by Esfir Jewels. The pair has just a hint of light blue color that contrasts yet complements the pink of the outfit. I’ve chosen to carry soft curls with this look. For makeup, it’s a pretty pink shade on the lips teamed with a blue eye shadow that creates some drama.

A Fashionable Fusion

This gorgeous green and gold lehenga skirt and sensuous blouse from Reeth makes a stunning pick for an engagement party or a dinner look. Further, I just went creative and paired the skirt with a plain white shirt for creating a less formal ensemble. The simplicity of the collared shirt sets off the richness of the lehenga to perfection.

For the formal look, I wore it with a pretty kundan necklace and earrings. With the semi-formal look, I wanted a statement jewelry piece and this heavy long kundan necklace served as the right choice to glamorize the look. Loose hair and soft makeup were my pick for this fusion festive look.

Go ahead and try one of these looks this festive season and I’m sure that you’ll love them as much as I do.

Most Talked About Weddings 2018 – Top Trends

2018 will be remembered as the year of celeb weddings, with several big names having walked the aisle. While some couples took us by surprise with an announcement popping out of nowhere, others had us anticipating their big day with a bated breath. Apart from some biggies in Bollywood, we witnessed two royal weddings as well and each one was an extravaganza in its own right. Here’s a throwback to the most talked-about celeb weddings of 2018.

Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja

The couple highlighted trends like fusion looks, with sneakers worn by the groom and a unique Indo-western style worn by the bride at the reception.

2018’s celeb wedding season started with the big fat Punjabi wedding of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja that was held in May. After two-day revelry with a lavish mehendi and sangeet that was attended by Bollywood whos-who, Sonam and Anand tied the knot in a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony. Sonam looked eclectic in a ravishing red Anuradha Vakil lehenga with regal jewelry, Anand looked dapper in a sherwani.

Sonam Kapoor looked breathtaking in a subtle Chikankari lehenga by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla Couture which she wore for her mehendi and sangeet ceremony.

For the reception, she picked a unique, graphic lehenga by Anamika Khanna, but it was Anand who stole the thunder by pairing sneakers with a bandhgala.

Kareena and cousin sisters Jhanvi and Khushi were the most talked about celebrity guests.

Meghan Markle-Prince Harry

Meghan brought her glamour and style into the wedding but made sure that it blended with the elegance and class that the royals are so well known for.

May witnessed the biggest wedding of Britain as well, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took the vows at Windsor Castle. Meghan is a former American actress and her celebrity status reflects in her sartorial choices as well. Her wedding dress was designed by the British designer Clare Waight Keller from the House of Givenchy. The diamond bandeau tiara was the statement piece that was the highlight of the entire look. For styling, she wore subtle makeup with a face-framing fringe that was tucked behind her ears.

The celebrity guests who made waves were Kate Middleton and Priyanka Chopra.

Princess Eugenie- Jack Brooksbank

The trend that was spotted at this wedding was about celebrating your imperfections as the bride chose to flaunt them rather than hide them.

Another royal wedding that made it to the headlines this year was the autumn wedding of Princess Eugenie, who said yes to her long-time boyfriend Jack Brooksbank in October. The venue was the same where Meghan and Harry were married in May. The princess settled for a stunning outfit by Peter Pilotto for her wedding dress. It was designed with a corseted silhouette that teamed perfectly with full pleated skirt. She chose to flaunt the surgery scar on her back by wearing a low neckline. Like Meghan, Eugenie wore a headpiece lent by the Queen, this time a Greville emerald Kokoshnik tiara.

As expected, it was the both royal daughter-in-laws who were the most searched celebs at this wedding.

Deepika Padukone- Ranveer Singh

The couple has been a trendsetter in their own right and once again they chose to show that brides and grooms should be comfortable in their skin.

Coming back to Bollywood, it’s time to talk about the wedding of the two most successful stars if the industry- Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The couple that has been setting relationship goals for years decided to put a ring on it with a private affair at Italy’s exotic Lake Como on 14 and 15 November. It was a Mangalorean wedding ceremony, followed a traditional Sindhi wedding ceremony. DeepVeer opted for Sabysachi designs for most of the ceremonies.

The couple threw three reception parties, one at Bangalore and two at Mumbai, and carried each of their looks with aplomb.

Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas

The couple and their families set family goals and set a new trend with an extraordinary fusion between the East and the West to create a wedding to remember.

Perhaps the most-talked-about wedding of the year is the cross-continent extravaganza which had the Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra saying “I Do” to the American-singer Nick Jonas. A grand event at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, it was back-to-back Christian ceremony and a Hindu ceremony that had the guests and the public going gaga. The couple, as well as their families, chose bespoke Ralph Lauren outfits for the Christian wedding, while Priyanka picked a pure red bridal Sabyasachi lehenga for the Hindu wedding. The couple looked ravishing in Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla designs for mehendi and sangeet ceremonies.

A reception at Delhi was followed by two bashes in Mumbai. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi graced the Delhi reception, the two parties at Mumbai had all the big names in Bollywood in attendance.

Lavish was the go word for the celeb wedding trends this year, whether it was with private affairs or the one in public eye. Wishing all these celebs years of togetherness and happiness ahead!

Best Of Festive Fashion 2018

With the festive season just around the corner, you’d probably be thinking about making an impression with some outstanding sartorial choices. This festive season, it is going to be all about innovation as contemporary trends blend effortlessly with ethnic vibes. From fabric to cuts, embellishments, and patterns, everything is just going to be about being experimental. Perhaps, you could go creative and try to mix and match some pieces that you already have in your wardrobe and create something that is extraordinary. Before you decide the look that you would want to flaunt this festive season, here are some fashion trends that you should know about:

1. Crop top with ruffled skirt

Here’s the most significant trend for the season, crop tops paired with flared skirts. The last year and this one have seen a lot of ruffles, and now these are making it big on the ethnic landscape too. While crop tops are designed in stiff fabrics, the ruffled skirts use softer ones like nets and georgettes to get the right silhouette.

2. Shirt and lehenga

Say hello to shirt style tops teamed with traditional lehengas this festive season. The quintessential collared shirts are worn with heavy lehengas made in luxurious fabrics like Banarasi silks and Mysore georgettes. For those who follow subdued styles, there is an option of simpler, floral fabrics for the lehenga. Try soft satin for the shirt to set off its masculinity and give it a feminine touch.

3. Dhoti suits

If your idea of festive dressing is inclined towards blending comfort with style, try a dhoti suit this season.  A smartly cut and well-fitted kurta teamed with a layered dhoti will make you look like a trendy diva. Team the outfit with dangling earrings to enhance the party look.

4. Saree with churidar

Try to modernize your saree by wearing it with a matching churidar instead of the good old petticoat. Complete the trendy outfit with a broad metallic belt that accentuates your waistline. And don’t forget the blouse; a sexy backless one can add to the glam quotient. Alternatively, you can pair it with a long-sleeved zari blouse to go fully festive.

5. Sharara with long kurta

Step out in a delicate sharara with a long kurta and make heads turn. This cute outfit is a perfect mix of femininity and elegance. Accessorize with a stylish potli bag, embellished mojri and heavy traditional jewelry to look like a queen.

6. Long jacket with palazzo pants

Long jackets have been in vogue for quite some time now and they are here to stray.  They make a perfect layering option as you can team them up with a lehenga or even a saree. Try to create a new look by pairing a printed or embroidered long jacket with a crop top and palazzo pants.

As the festive season is fast approaching, it’s time to get your wardrobe sorted out for each of the upcoming occasions. Try these fantastic ideas and be the talk of the town!

Sonam Kapoor Wedding Looks Decoded

When one of India’s most fashionable actresses marries an equally stylish entrepreneur, the wedding in question is bound to be iconic – and the recent marriage of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja was exactly that! Sonam Kapoor has been hailed as one of the most stylish ladies in Bollywood, and every outfit that she wore during her wedding festivities was a testament to this fact.

Let’s start at the beginning. One of the first functions that Sonam Kapoor had as part of the celebrations was her mehendi ceremony. For this event, which took place at her home in Mumbai, she chose a gorgeous pink and gold outfit by Anuradha Vakil, accessorizing it with only a gorgeous pair of statement earrings, to let the outfit do the talking. Fun fact: for this small mehendi ceremony at home, Sonam ditched the usual bridal high heels and juttis, opting to stay chic and comfortable in a pair of Nike slippers instead! Coolest bride ever, yes?

Sonam Kapoor Mehendi

For the sangeet, which took place later that evening, Sonam Kapoor upped the glamour quotient with a stunning white and gold lehenga by the infamous designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, that reportedly took 18 months to make! With a heavily embroidered blouse, intricate work on the lehenga skirt and classic kundan jewellery to match, Sonam Kapoor looked every bit the princess that every woman should feel like during her wedding.

Sonam Kapoor Sangeet Outfit

Now, let’s talk about the showstopper – the wedding outfit! First things first: in a world where everyone is trying to design and opt for bridal lehengas that are “unique” and “anything but traditional,” the fact that Sonam decided to go for a traditional red lehenga – with her own stylish spin on it, of course – emphasizes that fact that often, classic styles and traditional colours are the best way to go. For the big day, Sonam decided to once again go with an outfit by Anuradha Vakil. The stunning red and gold creation was accessorized with beautiful temple jewellery, customised kaleeras and simple, sophisticated makeup – a flawless bridal look.

Sonam Kapoor Wedding

For the reception, Sonam chose to walk in the opposite direction and defy tradition, opting for an edgy white and grey lehenga by Anamika Khanna. The chevron print skirt, accessorized with layered necklaces, was anything but ordinary when it comes to Indian bridal wear – and Sonam pulled it off like a true superstar. Once again, she went with minimal hair and makeup, sporting a bold red lip to bring a pop of colour to the monochromatic outfit.

Sonam Kapoor Reception

Lessons that to-be brides can take away from Sonam Kapoor’s wedding style? The most important would be this: there is a time and place for tradition, and likewise, a time and place to push the boundaries of fashion – realise which occasions are best suited for which kind of style, before planning your wedding outfits. Secondly, if you want your ensemble to do the talking, keep your hair and makeup minimal and fuss-free. Finally, the wedding is about celebrating the union of two beautiful people with those who you love – nothing is more important!

On Ode to Modern Indian Woman – A Perfect Combination of Tradition and Modernity

The journey of the modern Indian woman has been an exemplary one. She has made a phenomenal transition, shedding her conservative avatar and stepping into the shoes of a bread-earner, a financial contributor. At the same time, she is still close to her roots as she understands the significance of being a daughter, a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother. Truly, she has evolved as an individual and today, she emulates a perfect combination of tradition and modernity.

Yes, there are hindrances that curb her growth as an individual in her own right, but the modern Indian woman has proved her mettle by emerging strongly in the face of every single challenge. She has successfully managed to walk the tightrope and balance the roles of a homemaker and a professional. She has traditional values but her modern frame of mind aligns these values with the current lifestyle. Marriage is perhaps the most challenging phase of her evolution as she has to live up to the new family’s expectations without losing her individuality.  However, she is all set to embrace this challenge and use it as an opportunity to show her true colours.

Marriage should come at the right time

Today, the Indian woman has to be very sure about taking the big leap otherwise she would not do it. For her, marriage has to come only when she is ready for it, not when parents set up a timeline or as they seem to approach the “societal deadline”. The same goes for the choice of a life partner, whether the match is arranged or otherwise. Living with in-laws is no longer a cause for concern as this confident young woman usually looks to sort things out before stepping into the relationship. She would prefer an open discussion with her partner so that there are no misunderstandings once they begin their life together.

She is ready to be different and challenge conventions

The confident Indian diva is ready to think differently and challenge conventions. She is a leader and not a follower. She expects respect and love from her partner and is willing to give it back, but without making any compromises. And the same goes for her workplace. She is totally effortless as she slips into the role of a corporate professional from that of a homemaker. This is the woman who would love to try out a saree with a pair of jeans or take up a job which is quintessentially a part of the “male arena”. This is the woman who does not hesitate to voice out her opinion at home or at her workplace.

She loves being herself in her relationships

Whether it is marriage or work, the modern Indian woman is keen to be who she really is instead of wearing a fake face. To her, being different is about loving her personality and not changing it to make others happy. She is assertive, clear about her aspirations as well as her boundaries. She is not afraid to portray herself as an individual with her own needs as opposed to the notion of being a traditional homemaker who is willing to give up her wishes for others. She values her happiness and independence as much as those of her partner, children, family, and colleagues. Faking happiness is no longer her way of life as she is who she is, a unique individual with her own opinions, values, sensibilities and intelligence.

She loves the Indian culture but does not follow it blindly

Today’s woman is progressive in thinking but still, has a deep-rooted respect for the Indian culture and traditions. Whether it is about adorning “sindoor” or fasting on karwa chauth, she loves following the traditions yet is not staunch while she follows conventions. She holds customs close to her heart but has the flexibility to adapt according to the situation. Both her home and career are important to her and she makes sure that neither of the two is compromised for the other one.

Things are easier for single Indian women but marriage definitely spells change for them. However, the mindset in the country has undergone a significant change as people are opening up to the idea of having a daughter-in-law who would not give up her career post-marriage. The positive change in this direction has to come from the woman as well as her family, and of course, her partner.

Experimental Trend – Saree Lehenga that is here to stay!

When it comes to traditional wear, we are always excited about selecting our outfits.  Every now and then, we are attracted towards new fashion trends and one such trend that will always stay in fashion and is a great style to wear is Lehenga Saree trend.

A normal saree or lehenga is a  past thing. Nowadays, we all want to experiment with our clothing style and stay trendy. Moreover, a modern woman wants to wear something which is easy to handle, convenient and something which keeps her updated with the fashion trends. Lehenga sarees serves all these purposes. They are easy, trendy and make you look more elegant.

This unique combination of a lehenga and a saree is completely different from the usual lehengas. The subtle lehenga look is more like a skirt that gives you young and girly look whereas the saree form adds complete glamour to your outfit. This trend is great for all body types. The fusion of lehenga and saree is really vibrant and can help enhance the beauty of the wearer.

The best thing about this trend is you can get as much as creative as you want. You can pair it with the accessories you want and the variety of fabric. For my look, I am wearing a  combination of orange, pink and blue.

These colours are perfect for a wedding function. You can play around and select the type of lehenga you desire. Certainly, there is no age bar and that is one thing why we all love lehengas. Adding quirk to lehengas is this trend of Lehenga sarees. There is no limit to play around with this amazing piece of clothing. Go on and make the one you desire.

If you’re wearing traditional, then accessories become a must. I completed my look with wearing bangles of blue colour that matches with the colour of my blouse and adds more pop to the outfit.

Comfortable footwear makes a huge difference in your look and I’m completing my look with these sandals from Crimzon World. Crimzon have a huge variety of handcrafted footwear that are adorned with intricate designs and uses techniques in hand. What makes Crimzon stands apart is that they don’t harm any animal, skin and don’t use any fur or leather. I love their designs that can beautify both a traditional or western look.

Don’t Forget – I have also teamed up with them to get you 15% off on your next purchase with Crimzon World.

Lehenga Styling for Pre-Wedding Rituals

A wedding is a plush affair in India and it is celebrated on a grandiose scale. Every bride to be is very eager to pick out her outfits, be it a wedding lehenga, cocktail dress or reception saree. The colour of the outfits, the matching jewellery, the contrast with the wedding décor are all the things that run in a bride’s mind before the big day. And it is obvious because it’s her special day and she wants to look nothing short of perfect for the groom and the camera.

Indian weddings are a grand affair. They are always celebrated with a lot of colours, themes, rituals and functions before the big day. Starting from the functions like Mehendi or sangeet to the main event a bride has to pick multiple outfits which make her look her best for all the events. Before finalizing on any of outfits a bride needs to do some market research.

Make sure to check out the local stores, online shops and the runaway designer style to check out the latest trends before picking out your outfit.

If you are getting hitched sometime soon and on a hunt for a stunning outfit for your pre-wedding rituals, then check out this monotone lehenga styled by me. A bridal lehenga is incomplete without some detailed handwork and embroidery.

I have styled this flared lehenga with embroidery work from Priti Sahni. The lehenga is a bold deep purple shade. If you are a bride who wants to break the stereotype and move away from the typical reds and pinks, then this colour is your pick. For brides who love to experiment this deep purple colour is very sultry and makes for a sophisticated look for any evening events.

This lehenga is perfect for a Sangeet. This colour block lehenga with detailed zardozi embroidery on the choli and the skirt is stunning enough to let you sizzle on the stage. An ode to Indian crafts and design, this lehenga set can make your evening even more memorable.

For a complete look, you need to pair your lehenga with the right type of jewellery. I paired this extravagant lehenga with Kundan, Emerald and Ruby studded jewellery.

Kundan Jewelry is very traditional and classic. The elegance of these stone studded jewellery is no match to any other contemporary styles. The light gold colour of the kundan perfectly matches the gold dupatta and the work on the lehenga.

Since the blouse is very heavy I would recommend to not wear too many statement pieces of jewellery. But that doesn’t mean you don’t flaunt some crystal. You can always pair a Maang tikka and bring some oomph to your outfit. Maang tikkas have come back in style and are a great way to style your outfit. The boat neck of the blouse allows me to wear a choker necklace which is traditional yet fashionable.

Now when it comes to makeup and hair, this outfit would look great with some subtle makeup. You can either go for bold lips or eyes, but not both. I also prefer open hair and loose curls for a girly look. One can always tie up their hair into a bun for a sophisticated look but I believe buns are better for post-wedding events like the reception.

What makes this piece even more special for me is the woman behind it. Priti Sahni was an engineer by profession, who quit her job to pursue her passion of designing. Known for her hand embroideries and Indian Craft, Priti’s designs have an interesting mix of colours and fabric which are woven into the most beautiful sarees and lehengas.

Red the Colour of Love.

Every girl desires to look their best when it comes to traditional wear. We all spend a lot of time deciding which accessories to pair up, which hairstyles to do. But when it comes to celebrations and cultural festivities, Indian Lehengas are always on our mind

Since I always try to put a twist on my outfits. Then, why not to this lehenga style?

I enjoy dressing up and love to use my creativity on my outfit ideas. Lehenga is a synonym and reminds of traditional wear. The fashionista in me always strives to look better and even more stylish than before. I, myself, wear western on daily basis, so, I experimented with the traditional look of Indian Lehengas to give it a peculiar and modern look. A little experiment with subtle of twist is just adding glamour to my attire.

Lehenga generally reminds one of Gagra choli paired with a matching blouse, then let me show you how I created this modern style lehenga for myself.

I chose this gorgeous peplum top and skirt from Nakhra by Parthivi. I love this brand and its flair to explore and keep bringing such new chic outfits to serve their customers. Crafted by master craftsmen, using finest fabrics, they keep in mind what modern women want and always aim to make their customers happy by creating various gorgeous looks including fabrics and embroideries for the modern women.

Initially, I was a bit sceptical to style an all plain red outfit, but then getting creative with this look had me excited. This plain red dress looks so gorgeous, great flair and fit, which makes the appearance look even more versatile.

The peplum top is so pretty and well fitted. You can also wear this along with jeans. Even, this skirt can be perfectly paired with another blouse or any other top. The opportunities and outfit styles you can create with this outfit are numerous, even while writing this I can think of more than 10 more ways I can style it.

More than anything, the simple lehenga and the beautiful red colour adds the elegance into action. No doubt, the red makes it brighter and prettier.

Always remember jewellery is a perfect spice that complements what’s already there. I went with this Kundan neckpiece and added a maang tikka with it. Since the lehenga is plain, I wanted to balance the look. My kundan accessories blended with my look perfectly and added oomph to the complete look.

A lehenga is incomplete without dupattas, chunis. People usually say a dupatta enhances a woman’s look to a whole new level. I paired this with a  silk dupatta. Breaking the monotony of red, I chose this green colour dupatta which added a perfect edge to my outfit. This dupatta is a cherry on the top. It just completed my quirky modern lehenga look by adding extra glamour to it.

Well, this one is worth investment. If you wish, you can play with different items from your wardrobe and create one such personalized outfit for you. Just experiment and be comfortable.

Do you like this idea of incorporating this modern look on Indian lehenga? What did you like? Let me know if you want me to do more posts on outfits that can be styled in more than one way in the comments section below.

“Out of the Box Festive Styling” – Modern Style Traditional Values

The time for celebration has begun with the onset of Navratri. Navratri stands for ‘nine nights’ which are filled with the rhythm and hues of dandiya, Raas Garba, pooja and festive fashion. The festival is about more than just worshipping of the deities. It’s about celebrating as a community and dancing away until the wee hours of the morning to some traditional folk songs. The nine days of Navratri have different cultural connotations and are often represented with 9 hues, one for each day. This is a perfect fashion week for any fashionista who leaves no stone unturned to look pretty and stylish for all the 9 days with different colours, style and outfits.

I enjoy dressing up for any festive season and love to get creative with my traditional outfits. I prefer to wear western outfits on a daily basis, but when it comes to festivities I prefer to go back to my roots and take some cultural inspiration from my traditional outfits. But the inner diva in me loves to experiment with my traditional look by giving it a quirky twist. Navratri has been synonymous to Chaniya Cholis or Lehengas. But for the beauty queen, it’s more than just following the traditional ethnic wear. Add some glamour to your conventional traditional attire with this quirky ethnic outfit for a trendy Navratri this year!

Navratri is not just about Lehengas, so this year I chose to style a gorgeous crimson and black tusser silk saree from Amota for the festivities. Amota is a brand that strives to bring back the hues of India’s traditional textiles. They aim to create contemporary designs by merging modern with traditional while keeping sustainability in mind. Their silks made with authentic handwoven fabrics such as tusser silk, gichha silk, mulberry silk, and pure cotton.

I chose a tusser silk saree because I personally love the elegant and sophisticated finish the cloth gives you. It’s a classic pick for a traditional look. The saree has a black border with silver piping which enhances its subtlety. I gave this gorgeous traditional silk a contemporary twist by ditching the conventional blouse and pairing it with an off-shoulder crop top instead. Indo-western outfits have always been in vogue and this is a perfect outfit for you this festive season. Add a trendy crop top to your traditional outfit and watch the crowd taking style lessons from you this season. The crop top gives the saree enough oomph to give it a modern twist while keeping its elegance intact. It’s a very stylish option and also very convenient. Just think of how easily you can wear any saree without having to worry about getting a blouse stitched the next time. I love wearing contrasting shades. I love to incorporate the colours of the festival in my outfit so I paired my crimson saree with a yellow off-shoulder crop top instead of a boring black one. I wanted to flaunt my off-shoulder crop top style so I pleated the pallu of my saree to show-off the statement sleeves of my crop top.

Every outfit is incomplete with some jewellery. Traditional Navratri jewellery has a lot of silver bohemian pieces. I paired a chunky silver necklace with a statement cocktail ring. When talking about accessories for Navratri we need some gorgeous jhumkas to complete our look. I decided to go bold with my entire look by finishing it with a bold lip colour matching my saree.

You can play around with multiple pieces in your wardrobe to create our own personalized outfit. You can pair this saree with an ethnic jacket or wrap the pallu around your neck as a scarf. You can also experiment with footwear by wearing jhootis or Kholapuris. Just remember, to stay comfortable as you won’t be able to enjoy the raas-garba in high heels.

“In The Garden” – Summer Wedding Floral Lehenga Look

Indian weddings and festivities are an experience filled with colours, rituals, laughter, joy and family. There are so many functions before the actual wedding that make the whole affair more memorable and fun. From sangeet, mehndi, pheras, and cocktail Indians know how to celebrate and enjoy.

I love seeing everyone decked up in different ethnic outfits like Lehengas, Anarkalis, and Sarees. But at times you get confused which outfit or colours are appropriate for the occasion. You don’t want to be overdressed and look like the bride or immediate family member or underdressed and feel like you don’t belong.

Since it’s Summers on Now, I have decided to write this post focusing on a look for daytime functions. For this garden party look I went in for a light and printed lehenga paired with a gold choli and a bright mauve dupatta with gold bootis. The choli is more like a crop top than a traditional choli as I wanted a modern twist to the entire look. Florals are perfect for spring and an outdoor daytime event which is why I went for a floral printed lehenga in summery shades of pink. The floral print screams out outdoor, colourful, fun, and spring it’s a good twist to the traditional Indian lehengas with embroidery and hand work. It is very light and easy to wear since it’s printed. What I love about lehengas is that you can twirl around in them and it makes you feel like a princess.

The outfit is a customised outfit from Anaya textiles. They specialise in fabrics like chiffon, silk and cotton and have a wide range of designs. The best part is that they do “made to order” outfits where you can create your own outfit, whatever you desire right from the fabric to the colour palette it can all be customised.

I paired up my floral lehenga with traditional Kundan earrings and necklace. I went in for key jewellery pieces to enhance my overall look.  I also added a matha tikka to highlight my outfit. You can match your tikka to your earrings for an elegant and graceful look. To complete my outfit I have also worn bangles, ring and a hath phool. Hath phool or a hand bracelet is a globally loved Indian ornament. Traditionally it was only worn by brides but with designers coming up with modern and lighter variants of the jewellery it has even become a party wear accessory. I have gone for a simple hairstyle to keep the focus on my outfit and jewellery and a very romantic look with my makeup. One of the best parts of this outfit is that you can even reuse the skirt for a western look if you want. Pair it with a white tee or a crop top for a modern look. This look is a great day look and perfect for a garden party like a mehndi or a sangeet function.

Classic Cocktail Look and Outfit Inspiration

Plazzo pants or trouser pants a 70’s style statement have been doing the rounds of the Indian & Pakistani fashion scene this spring summer. Palazzo pants are wide legged pants something like bell bottoms which can be paired with different key pieces in your wardrobe. They are great for summer as they are generally made from light fabric.

Designers have been pairing palazzos with kurtas, crop tops, long jackets and more for a contemporary look. From silk bottom to embroidered palazzos they are there everywhere. If you are planning to attend a cocktail event for an Indian function then why not mix it up a little by going for a modern take on the ethnic wear and go for embroidered bottoms with a short kurti.

This outfit is designed by Anaya Textile. The brand is known for their great collection of fabrics which are traditional with a contemporary twist for today’s modern women. They cater to all ranges when it comes to lehengas, bottoms or kurtas, and are known for their customised creations where one can design their own outfit right from the embroidery to the colour palettes.

A cocktail event is a formal event so I wanted to for something on the modern side. I personally feel on such an occasion it is important to make a statement without breaking the bank, and while dress would get too simple and a lehenga or sharara would get too jazzy. Thus I suggest you mix it up a bit with embroidered pants a short kurta.

I kept my jewellery light and stuck to a few key pieces like a long necklace to balance the outfit on top and let the bottoms be the hero of the outfit. Since it was a traditional event I have taken a light dupatta but this outfit looks great even without it as you can see in some pictures.

If it’s a formal event but not on the traditional side then you can even pair the bottoms with a plain silk blouse or a crop top. Since the bottoms are beautifully embroidered try to keep the rest of your look and outfit simple. I have gone for an elegant look with my makeup and hair tied in a low bun, as I wanted a very casual updo and wanted the focus on the embroidery in the bottoms.

You can even create different looks with these bottoms you can pair it with a contrasting blouse and a dupatta or pair it with a knee length kurta. Since the colours on the bottom are neutral you can go for colour blocking with shades of pink, orange, salmon or stay in the safe zone with colours like off-white, gold and blue.

If you are going for palazzo pants with minimal work on the bottom then you can pair it with a heavy top or a dupatta. If it is a formal cocktail event in the evening then opt for something modern like an embroidered gown. If it’s more on the traditional side for a wedding then go for an Indian outfit like an embroidered palazzo and kurta or anarkali.

Warp ‘n Weft- Where Modernity Blends with Tradition

Benarasi, the rich fabric that defines the grandeur of the ancient city of Varanasi, truly captures the essence of Indian tradition. Indeed, Benarasi deserves to be called the “Fabric of Antiquity” as it epitomises the culture and heritage of the country. And what I love the most about this textile is that it effortlessly blends with contemporary dressing, making a timeless synergy of modernity with tradition.

Today, Benarasi is making fashion headlines as designers across the globe are taking it to the fore. It is my favourite too and I love to play with these rich weaves. I find it perfect for creating stunning fusion ensembles. The vibrant colours and distinctive weaves of this luscious and rich fabric make an extraordinary combination with the simplicity of western attire making it elegant and chic.

When it comes to Benarasis, Warp ‘n Weft is the brand name that comes to mind. I picked some exquisite Benarasi weaves from this brand to create a unique look with the famed ‘brocade’ and ‘khinkhab’ marrying our Indian cultural heritage with western.

Benarasi Shorts with Jumper

This glamorous ensemble combines a pair of stylish shorts from Warp ‘n Weft in Silk ‘Khinkhab’ with a mustard coloured full-sleeved jumper. Crafted in rich burgundy Benarasi fabric with floral weave, the cute hot pants are the highlight of the ensemble. And the knee-high boots complete the look to perfection. The entire look is a statement; bold and confident style and can make one standout no matter what the occasion speaking of the adaptability of this vintage pure weave to suit the look of the discerning woman.

Benarasi Lehenga with Leather Jacket

The second look that I have put together brings together the magic and timelessness of  Benarasi and the sassiness of leather. This one is an unexpected combination which has an elegant Benarasi Lehenga in bronzy metallic hues, choli in deep wine not red, teamed with a stylish black leather jacket. The vibrant choli features the traditional Benarasi butti weave. The lehengas which has panels in the subdued shades of bronze and gold, is woven like poetry in thread with the ‘Sunflower Buta’ in design. And the funky leather jacket adds the oomph factor to the look. The ensemble is creatively accessorized with a lovely Kundan neckpiece to enhance the eclectic touch. What’s more it keeps me warm in this chilly English weather. A great alternative to make sure I get to wear my favourite Indian Skirts no matter what the weather. Gives the whole outfit that grunge look. **wink** **wink**

Warp ‘n Weft is a revolution in itself when it comes to Benarasi weaves. The brand has been catering to a global clientele since 1997 showcasing the rich culture and provenance of the master craftsmen weavers of Varanasi. The brand understands the desires of the emerging trends and burgeoning demands of buyers who appreciate the beauty of the significant hand-crafted Benarasi fabric and would settle for nothing but the best.

The flagship store of Warp ‘n Weft is in Mumbai. The brand also enjoys an international presence, as it collaborates with Este Couture in the UK and soon would be exploring new tie-ups too. Additionally, it offers an amazing bespoke online styling service “Warp ‘n Weft Personal”, which brings customised fashion to the doorstep of Benarasi lovers. From colour detail to yarn detail and weave detail, the brand customises the fabric according to the customer’s desire. Buyers can have a unique and personalised look designed just for them by availing this exclusive service.

Benarasi is the fabric that has a global appeal and Warp ‘n Weft continues in their endeavour to get it all the recognition that it deserves. The brand endorses Benarasi, not as a fashion fabric but as a legacy that is to be carried forth to the next generations.
