The infamous MET Gala is undoubtedly one of the biggest fashion events of the year. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, the fundraising event invites some of the biggest superstars from music, cinema, fashion and art – each of them dressed to impress, with a bold statement to make. This year, the theme was a slightly controversial one – “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Church” – but our favourite celebrities didn’t hold back. They boldly interpreted the theme into stunning looks that pushed the boundaries of fashion and art. Here’s a quick round-up of our top ten favourite looks from the red carpet this year!
Rihanna
When it comes to red carpet style, no one does it bolder and better than Rihanna – and this year, she did not disappoint! Inspired by the cardinals of the Catholic Church, Rihanna walked the red carpet in a stunning robe encrusted with pearls and jewels, and a statement headpiece to match. All hail the Queen!
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka’s smouldering look at the MET Gala was courtesy of Ralph Lauren. Clad in a beautiful velvet gown with a bejewelled hood to match, Priyanka pushed the limits of the event’s theme and showed us, once again, that she is a style maven like no other.
Gigi Hadid
This supermodel had a slightly different take on theme this year. Moving away from the Pope and cardinal inspired pieces, Gigi’s beautiful Versace dress was inspired by the stained glass windows that are often seen in churches across the world. Subtle and sophisticated, Gigi’s outfit was definitely one of the most unique and beautiful ones at the MET Gala this year.
Blake Lively
Hailed as one of the most fashionable ladies in Hollywood, Blake Lively did not let us down on the red carpet this year. Her gorgeous Versace gown – that required a bus to transport it and took more than six hundred hours to create – featured a beautiful crimson colour, a stunning bodice and bejewelled straps that came together to form an ethereal masterpiece.

Cara Delevingne
The beautiful British model made heads turn in a one-of-a-kind Dior creation, featuring a lattice-inspired gown, beaded veil and matching statement crown to complete the look. Her bold makeup look, featuring bright yellow eyeshadow and a statement lip, perfectly complemented her all-black ensemble. Ten on ten for Cara!
Bella Hadid
The younger Hadid sister walked the red carpet in a bold latex creation by Chrome Hearts Official – but the true showstopping feature of this outfit was her hair piece – a gorgeous veil that was sewed into her hair, weighing in at a whopping 10 pounds! Seems like Bella understands that when it comes to fashion, often, “no pain, no gain” is true.
Cardi B
This talented rapper might be expecting her first child, but she didn’t let that cramp her red carpet style. Instead, Cardi B proudly showed off her baby bump in a stunning beaded gown by Moschino, with a matching crown to complete the look! And that, ladies, is how pregnancy style should be.
Jennifer Lopez
When it comes to red carpet style, you can’t go wrong with Balmain. Jennifer Lopez sported a bold Balmain creation, featuring structured shoulders, an embellished crystal cross and a feathered train. She finished off the look with a slicked-back hairstyle and a bold smoky eye to perfectly complement the outfit – and we can’t get enough of it!
Ariana Grande
The music queen arrived at the MET Gala in a unique Vera Wang piece, featuring art from the Sistine Chapel as the print of the fabric. She topped off the look with her iconic high ponytail, accessorized with a bow. While this look may not have been everyone’s cup of tea, we were definitely feeling the artsy vibes, which fit perfectly into the event’s theme as well.
Diana Kruger
Opting to step away from cardinal-inspired fashion, Diana opted for a more angelic look, with a gorgeous blue gown by Prabal Gurung that featured train that went on for days. Paired with a subtle pearl headpiece, Diana Kruger showed us that there are multiple ways to interpret a fashion theme – and we loved her take on it!
