Coloured denim has been making waves for a couple of years now. The trend started with fire engine red jeans showing up on every street corner and later faded to subtle pastels like baby blue and mint green. This year, the coloured denim trend is back in full force and it includes everything from vibrant hues to soft pastels to electric neon. By now, you know that I love making a statement and what better way to do so than with eye-catching bottoms? As with most bold fashion trends, styling coloured jeans can be cumbersome at first glance, but once you get the hang of it, there is no looking back!
Balance Out The Colour With White
The easiest way to sport coloured jeans is to pair your bright bottoms with a white top. Depending on the time of day and the occasion in question, this white top could be a classic white shirt, a comfortable white V-neck tee or a basic white tank top. White is a fresh hue that instantly neutralises the vibrancy, giving you an outfit that is ultra sophisticated and perfectly balanced.
Match Coloured Jeans With Contrast
As colours increasingly take centre stage, contrasting your top and bottom is a great way to put together an outfit that is super stylish and different from the norm. To understand the method of contrast better, pull up a picture of the colour wheel. Contrasting colours are those that are directly opposite each other on the colour wheel – my favourite combination for the summer is orange jeans with an electric blue peplum blouse.
Coloured Bottoms Work With Simple Prints
I know that most ladies’ first instinct would be to shy away from pairing colour jeans with print. On the contrary, I have found that coloured denim works really well with simple prints like polka dots and stripes. Busy prints might look messy (depending on the colours in the print) but basic prints are always winners. Plus, the print adds a fun element to your ensemble – the key is to find a print that is really simple and ideally in black and white.
Throw On A Blazer For A Put Together Look
Colour denim is a lot of fashionable fun, which is why you may run the risk of looking too informal or casual sometimes. I have found that a great way to counter this laid back vibe (unless of course, you want it!) is to add a sharp, tailored blazer to your outfit. The blazer really pulls the entire ensemble together and keeps you from looking casual. Opt for a blazer in a neutral colour like white, cream, grey or black for a touch of unmatched elegance.
Remember, the coloured denim trend does not always have to be worn in the form of jeans. The same rules apply to wearing coloured denim cut-offs and skirts, too! I absolutely love coloured denim during the summer and I hope these easy tips will help you fall in love with it too.
