Ladies, are you looking forward to the Indian summer as much as I am? Apart from chilling at the beach and sporting your new bikini, you can also look forward to a truckload of new summer styles. In the recent edition of Lakme Fashion Week, we witnessed many new trends rising to the spotlight. One of the most evident favourites was the ‘pastel trend’ that has made waves on the runway and will be even bigger in street style this summer.
Personally, I love pastel hues because they add the right amount sophistication to any ordinary outfit. Whether you are glamorous or edgy, girly or bohemian, pastel shades can be incorporated into your summertime wardrobe with pleasant ease. It only depends on how far you are willing to take the trend.
So, how do you rock the pastel trend without looking like fairy floss? My favourite way to ease into any trend is to start by incorporating it into my accessory collection and the pastel trend is no different. In fact, pastel accessories are a great way to add some femininity to your look without looking too girly. Pastel sandals, clutches or even necklaces are a wonderful way to make your foray into the world of pastels! For those of you whose personal style is quite edgy, balance out the girly vibes with leather and studs. If you are not much of an accessory person, starting with pastel nail polish works equally well, too.
When you are ready to embrace the trend with open arms, colour blocking is a great way to do so. Plus, sporting two colours instead of one will make your ensemble look more chic and less dowdy. When colour blocking with pastel hues, I prefer to wear a dull colour on the top and a bright colour on the bottom for some eye-popping fun. If you are trying this look, remember that your accessories should not be pastel as well because that would be a complete overkill. Again, you can balance out the feminine look with some edgy metal accessories, or choose to keep your accessories super simply and let your outfit do the talking.
Another trend I spied on the runway was the mesh of the pastel trend with the ombre craze. Ladies, I dare you to try this look at least once this summer and kill two birds with one stone! To my mind, the combination of the two trends epitomizes the summertime and I can totally imagine hanging out by the beach in a gorgeous ombre pastel maxi dress.
Because this look is especially subtle and delicate, it is important to keep your hair and makeup as simple as possible. Bold makeup and OTT hair will simply takeaway from the rest of your look. Stick to shades of makeup that are pale or nude, and keep your hairstyle as basic as possible.
So there you have it, girls! These three easy ways to sport the pastel trend will have you looking your stylish best, all summer long.
