For Your Nails

  1. Do not bite your nails; apart from having unsightly fingertips, you also become more prone to skin infections.
  2. Always have your nails filed to perfect. Always. It’s the mark of a true fashionista.
  3. Use good quality polishes and removers only. Cheap, low-quality products tend to dry the nail bed and make nails brittle.
  4. Alternate dark and light nail polish to prevent discolouration of nails. Ideally, there should also be a 1-2 day gap between polish change so your nails can
  5. If your nails are already discoloured – a yellowish hue due to too much product usage – use lemon juice. Dip cotton in it and place on each nail for 2-3 minutes. Follow up with moisturization.
  6. Always apply a coat of clear nail polish beneath and over your coloured nail paint. This prevents yellowing of nails and chipping of coloured polish.
  7. Keep your nails well moisturised to prevent chipping and breakage. Invest in a hand-and-nail cream and use regularly.
  8. When filling your nails at home, move the nail file in one direction and not back and forth – this makes them less brittle and prone to breaking.
  9. If a nail gets chipped, cut and file it immediately – don’t leave it looking shabby and uneven for too long.

Get a professional manicure done once every month. Admit it; you can’t clean, buff and remove cuticles the way the salon guy do

MeeBox Feb 2016 Box Review

Today I’m reviewing a beauty box that I really enjoyed using. MeeBox is exclusively for the nail nerds. It comprises of only nail-care and nail-art products and is available with two kinds of subscription packages. You can either go in for a monthly subscription at £20 or save £6 with a quarterly subscription of £54.MeeBoxI personally love the concept of subscription boxes. They expose you to new brands and products which you may not have bought off a store otherwise. These are the sort of products you see at a store, are extremely fascinated by too, but always forgo in favour of a tried and tested product. A beauty box is like a blind purchase where you are pushed out of your comfort zone and try new things.Meebox FebSo, when I got this MeeBox in my mail, I was super excited to open and see what’s inside. The anticipation and final reveal in itself was quite thrilling. Even before I unpacked it though, I was quite impressed by the sturdy yet beautiful packaging. Inside, there were four products, wrapped in a confetti-themed paper and when I got past the cuteness of it, this is what I found inside:

  • Smith and cult £19
  • Leighton Denny £11
  • Nails Inc £14
  • Sparkly nails £1.50
  • Plus Chanel (for those who received it) £18

Meebox Feb 2016As you can see above, the RRP of these nail products totals at approximately £63.50 which is far more than the price of this MeeBox. And each of the polishes was a distinct, lovely shade. The peach Smith and Cult is great for a soothing, office look. The red Leighton Denny would go well with a party outfit and the gold, sparkly Nails Inc makes for a great top coat. For those who love nail art, the Sparkly Nails crystals are perfect for making patterns over your polish; trust me, when you start with that, nail painting becomes so much more fun!MeeBox-Nail-StyleI really liked this MeeBox because there was a wide range of products and you’d be sure to find something to your liking, no matter what your personal style is. As soon as I opened it, I began experimenting and you can see the results in this picture of my newly-done nails. Don’t they look great?Meebox-NailsInc

Common Nail Problems and How to Fix Them

nails

Beautiful nails, either painted or bear, are the best accessory ever! The one fashion statement you can make without spending a fortune is sporting wonderful nails that everyone envies.

But I have to admit that good nails do not come easy and can’t be grown overnight. Most people who have naturally strong and sturdy nails are either genetically blessed or maintain a very healthy diet. Either way, if you are not one of those people, having nice nails is going to require some extra effort.

Most of us can judge nail quality based on their shape, size and colour as well as frequency of chipping and breakage. If you are victim to the following nail problems all the time, there are some natural remedies which may be of help. Read on and find out.

Slow Nail Growth

The average fingernail grows at the rate of one-tenth an inch per month. But if yours aren’t able to keep up that face here are some things you could try:

  • Apply warm olive oil or coconut oil on your nails and cuticles before bed every night. Both deeply nourish the nail bed, thus promoting growth.
  • Soak your nails in fresh orange or lemon juice for 10 minutes every day. Follow up by washing and moisturising them. Vitamin-C-rich, these juices aid collagen production and hence nail-growth.

Brittle Nails

Sick of your nails chipping and breaking every other day? Your brittle nails need some natural goodness which you can get this way:

  • Prepare a solution of equal parts raw apple cider vinegar and water. Soak your nails in it for a few minutes every day. Rich in magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron, apple cider vinegar will make your nails stronger in no time.
  • Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with vitamin E oil. Apply on nails and leave overnight. The solution will deeply hydrate your nails, nourishing them such that breakage reduces.

Yellowed Nails

Those whose nails are always painted find them to have yellowed when they remove the polish. There are other medical causes for yellowing of nails which must be treated differently but if it’s polish-based stains, here’s what you can do:

  • Always apply a clear base coat before putting on other colours.
  • Mix two parts of baking soda and lemon juice each with one part olive oil. Apply this thick paste on your nails and leave for a few minutes. Rinse off and moisturize. Repeat procedure every 2 weeks.
  • Apply whitening toothpaste on your nails for a few minutes and then scrub it off gently using a toothbrush. Rinse off and moisturize. Do this 2-3 times a week till stains are removed.

Nail-Biting Habit

The awful habit of biting nails is as much a health hazard as it is off-putting. There are several ways in which you can curb the instinct if you are a nail-biter:

  • Always keep your nails trimmed so there is less potential to bite.
  • Apply neem oil on your nails and allow it to dry. Whenever you bite on them unconsciously, the bitter taste will deter you for sure.
  • Wear artificial nails for a few weeks which will prevent you from accessing and biting your real nail. Hopefully that should cure you of your addiction.
