dresses for every wardrobe

If there is one piece of clothing that’s feminine and looks effortlessly chic & graceful, it’s a dress. Investing in some nice dresses is the best decision women can make for their wardrobe, because no matter where you have to be or what mood you are in, there is a perfect dress for every occasion. Find more fashion blogs here.

Dresses are my favourite, as they are so versatile & easy to carry and I can dress them up or down effortlessly. For someone like me who is always in a rush, dresses always come in handy. Whenever I am struggling to put together a last-minute look, my search somehow always ends on a dress. I also love my denim and skirts, but nothing beats the femininity of a dress.

There are a lot of women out there who want to wear dresses, but are not sure what type of dresses to invest in. Well, this blog is all about that. I’ll be telling you the 5 types of dresses that one must have in their wardrobe and how to style them. So, let’s get into it.

Types of dresses you need in your wardrobe

  1. Mini Dresses

Mini dresses have been ruling the fashion world for a long time. They are fun & flirty, and that’s what I like the most about them. They can be worn for a fancy brunch or a date night with bae, all one has to remember is picking the right dress. During day time, go for dresses that are flowy & playful and for the evenings turn up the sass in fancy, bodycon dresses.

For a casual look, wear a mini dress as is or layer it up with a shrug or cardigan and complete the look with nice wedge heels or boots. Style a mini dress with a pair of pumps or stilettos and a statement clutch for a more eye-catching look.

  1. Midi Dresses

Midi dresses have to be one of my favourite. They are classy, modest and perfect for someone who is not comfortable in showing too much skin. Midi dresses have the right amount of casual & formal appeal to them and they look good on any body type, which makes them a big hit in the fashion world.

One can pair a midi dress with classic, pointed toe pumps and a handbag for a formal & dressy look, whereas for a casual look, grab a comfortable pair of flats, a sling bag & a hat and make heads turn.

  1. Maxi Dresses

Whenever I hear the term maxi dress, I start thinking of a beach vacation and all I see is me running in the sand wearing a flowy maxi dress. They are super comfy, stylish and effortless, which makes them a number one choice for a day by the pool or a beach vacay, just be sure to pick a dress with breathable fabric.

Pair a maxi dress with strappy sandals, long-hanging light jewellery and a cute straw hat and nail that holiday look. One can also pair their maxi dress with tan boots and bohemian jewellery for that boho-goddess vibes.

  1. Shirt Dresses

Whenever I am feeling lazy and don’t want to put in a lot of efforts, a shirt dress always comes to my rescue. I love shirt dresses as they are so chic & easy-to-wear and can be styled in so many ways. They are playful & yet make you look put together and the best thing about shirt dresses is that no matter how I choose to style them, the final look is always stunning.

I usually like to style my shirt dresses with a denim jacket & sneakers for a casual look. It can be styled with a belt to accentuate the waist or with a solid blazer and pumps for a more polished & put together look.

  1. Occasion Dresses

I bet most of us have some high-end dresses in our closet that are reserved for extra special occasions, like weddings, parties, etc. These are those sequinned, embroidered, lace, & tulle dresses that we can’t wear on a daily basis, but whenever we do they look so elegant and give us all the princess feels we want. I believe investing in good occasion dresses is a decision a woman can never regret.

When it comes to styling occasion dresses, less is always more, so don’t go overboard. Go for simple and minimal jewellery like studded earring and necklace, carry a classy clutch and complete the look with chic stiletto heels.

Dresses are evergreen and these are some of the types I think every woman must have in her wardrobe. While buying a dress, always remember that no matter what type you go for, make sure it’s comfortable, as comfort is the most important thing when it comes to fashion.

Your Navratri Guide – Outfits, Food, Songs & more

Here is all you need to know about the 9 days Navratri festival. From outfits and songs to what to eat while fasting.

The festive season has begun and it’s finally one of my most awaited festivals, Navratri. It is that time of the year when the streets are filled with blingy lights and there are colourful twirls all around. Navratri is a festival celebrated in India, in which people worship Maa Durga and fast for nine days. Apart from the religious rituals, Navratri is also known for Garba Dance. People dressed in colourful outfits, with dandiya in hand and dancing to Graba songs, is what typical Navratri looks like. Even after moving to the UK, it is still one of my favourite festivals and I still get excited for it like I used to get back home in India. So, here I am going to talk about all things Navratri, from outfit ideas & Navratri songs to what to eat while fasting, keep reading. Checkout more festive content here.

Navratri outfits are all about colours. Bright red, yellow, orange, green are all the shades that will look the best while you’re dancing your heart on your favourite songs. Here are some of the outfit ideas that’ll make you stand out in the crowd and rock this Navratri.

1.       Chaniya Choli

Navratri outfit

Nothing screams Dandiya night like a lovely, flowy chaniya choli and it is without a doubt one of the most common attire among girls. You can opt for a basic chaniya choli or you if you want something with an oomph factor; you can go for one like Deepika wore in Ramleela. You can further glam up your looks by adding some silver jewellery and you are good to go.

2.       Dhoti Pants with Kurti

If chaniya choli is not your calling then go for something like Alia is wearing. Just pair your dhoti pants with a Kurti and throw on a jacket on top and tada. You can even wear a crop top with dhoti pants, and it will look just as good. This look is fun, comfy and so easy to carry. Pair it with juttis and chunky earrings and you are ready.

Take inspiration from Sara Ali Khan and pair your bright ethnic top with your favourite denim and be ready to rock the Garba night. This look is super chic, effortless and doesn’t require much investment. Complete your look with a pair of juttis and dance the night away.

4.       Lehenga or long skirt with Shirt

Navratri outfit ideas

I bet all the girls out there have a lehenga in their wardrobe that they have worn once and now it’s just lying there waiting to be rescued. Well, now is the best time to take out that lehenga and put it to use this Navratri. Pair your lehenga skirt with a shirt like Daisy Shah or crop top, add some chunky silver jewellery and you will be ready to take over the night.

5.       Long ethnic dresses

dandiya night outfit

Ethnic dresses are something that look super elegant and classy. They are so versatile and they look so good no matter what occasion you wear them on. For the Garba night, you can go for a floor-length dress like Athiya, add some silver jewellery, jutties and that’s it, your look is complete. If you want to dress it up more, you can add an ethnic Indian belt to accentuate the waist.

Top 10 Garba Songs

Now that your dandiya night outfit is sorted, it’s time to move to the next thing that is vital for Navratri are the songs that’ll get you grooving instantly. I still remember my college times when I used to dance for straight 2-3 hours just because I enjoyed the music so much.  Here is a list of top 10 Garba songs that you should add to your garba playlist or here the one I have created for you.

Heathy Foods during Fasting

Apart from all the fun, dance and colourful outfits, fasting is also an essential part of fasting and it is vital to do it in the right way as you don’t want it to take a toll on your health. There are many things that are restricted during the Navratri fast, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on your health. In fact, there are a lot of healthy options out there and also I think these 9 days are the best time to give your body that much needed break and get rid of unhealthy toxins. Here are a few things that I like to have while fasting.

1.     Roasted Makhanas/Lotus Seeds

Roasted lotus seeds

Roasted Makhanas are the most common fasting food out there, thanks to their nutritional value. Just roast them for 10-15 mins until they get crunchy, add chilli powder, chaat masala and they are done. Makhanas are great for maintaining good heart health, removing toxins from the body and improving digestive health.

2.     Fruit Salad

Top view of white bowl full of fruit salad containing strawberries, blueberries, orange, kiwi, pineapple and peach

It is good to add fruits to your daily diet, but during fasting, it becomes even more important as they are the healthiest thing to consume while fasting. Fruits are great to provide your body with the much-needed energy and are a great source of vitamins. Just chop some fruits of your choice, sprinkle some chaat masala and enjoy.

3.     Dry Fruits

roasted dry fruits

Dry fruits are packed with proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats and are perfect to get those extra health benefits during fasting and also help in improving the immune system. You can roast them in ghee for 10 mins or have them as it is. They are nutritional, wholesome and will keep you full for a long time.

4.     Boiled/Roasted Sweet Potato

Roasted sweet potato

Sweet potatoes are a great source of fibre, minerals & vitamins and therefore it’s nice to have them while fasting. Boil or roast the sweet potatoes for 10-15 minutes, cut them into small pieces, sprinkle chaat masala, drizzle some lemon juice if you like and enjoy your sweet-savoury chaat.

5.     Lots of water

water

Consuming extra water during fasting is essential as it keeps you hydrated. 20% of your body water level comes from food and that’s why drinking lots of water compensates for the fluids lost due to fasting. Water will also keep you full and you’ll feel less hungry. You should drink at least 7-8 litres of water while fasting.

So, here it is your complete guide to kick-start Navratri. I am all ready to enjoy the festive season to the fullest and I am sure you are too. Let me know how you like this blog and also how you celebrate Navaratri in the comments below.

Let’s Talk Rocky Star – London Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2020

The Autumn Winter London Fashion Week was is always something I look forward to, and was even more special this year to see one of India’s leading fashion houses – Rocky Star, on the runway. Rocky Star is a visionary of the Indian fashion scene, always looking at ways of amalgamating traditional, yet innovative designs in his high fashion pieces. With textures and designs employing some of our heritage’s oldest crafts into modern couture, the Rocky Star label embodies bold aesthetics in simple and comfortable silhouettes for men and women.

The Rocky Star Autumn Winter 2020 collection is a revival of some of the brand’s signature styles, patterns, embroideries and aesthetics from its previous collections, some of which, in classic Rocky Star style, were a nod to the Baroque and Gothic time periods. The brand breathes new life into each of these pieces from its stylish past, making them pertinent to current times.

The collection features bomber jackets, faux leather trenches, and tailored jackets, paired with voluminous skirts, flared trousers and signature trousers. Going bold and classic with black as the background, the fashion house has got a slew of sequins, lace, feathers, ruffles and pleats to the forefront with metallic accents and threadwork, bringing futuristic designs to the fashion scene.

Each piece has been cleverly curated to mix and match with others from the collection, making it ideal for those who prefer a minimalist wardrobe with maximum impact. The textures and intricate work are perfect for a pop of warmth and glamour in the setting of the cold weather, bringing back the excitement into everyday dressing.

Two of my favourite ensembles from the collection are an oversized black jumper with a multi-colour metallic sequined skirt finished in a gathered hem, and a silver sequined check suit with a sleek black faux leather collar and belt. Be it street style or elegant occasionwear, I am looking forward to introducing the Rocky Star Autumn Winter 2020 collection to my wardrobe.

The last week has been one of the most exciting in London for one very sole reason – London Fashion Week! As I witnessed the art of modern fashion on the runway, I chose to take the approach of sustainability to my personal fashion choices in this duration, so here are some looks I mixed and matched and got my creative cells ticking.

Look 1: Minimalist in Indigo

Postfold’ is an Indian ethical fashion brand that promises to bring ethically sourced, premium quality fabrics, without the unreasonable hefty price tags. And believe me, they deliver that promise! Their easy, yet, a chic collection of apparel will take you from coffee to champagne hours, without compromising on sophistication and style at any given hour of the day. The simplicity of this A-line Indigo dress stole my heart, as I craved for something easy and breezy in the otherwise fast-paced fashion world we live in today. To brave the London weather, I added a faux fur off-white jacket and boots to go and accessorized with simple hoops.

Look 2: The Power of Brocade

Donning the intricate luxury Indian wear brand – ‘Laalatee by Nikita’, it was “Go Big or Go Home” with this one. I am always super excited to bring the bold fabrics and artistry of my ethnicity to the fashion runways of London. The design house’s collection ‘Shringaar’ currently carries this opulent, gold brocade jacket and trousers to match. And since the ensemble did most of the talking, it was only fair to pair it with the humble white shirt and black sandals, to truly shine (pun intended)! Put on a pair of statement gold hoop earrings and get ready to make some heads turn.

Look 3: Pink Play

Nisse is a brand that is created by designer Nargisse. E. Akyuz, who curates every silhouette combining the needs of the modern woman and the trends on the runway. Featured here is Ordella 2 Jacket – a padded sleeve tuxedo dress from Nisse’s latest Resort Collection. While the coat dress could be worn on itself, I went for a modest look, with the Postfold Indigo dress underneath, for the pink to really pop. To add a bit more retro-fun to the look, I accessorized with everything white – including boots, hoop earrings and a statement headband.

Look 4: The Modern Maharani

As mentioned before, I am always enthused to bring my heritage into the limelight, especially through fashion. On this day, I chose the grandeur of this Indian Banarasi lehenga by Indian brand ‘Warp ‘n’ Weft’ to best showcase the craftsmanship of Indian weavers. Paired with a plain white blouse, there is something I find absolutely graceful and sublime about this colour combination. Accessorized with simple, yet comfortable sandals, a silk fabric ‘batwa’ clutch, statement ring and chunky neckpiece, I almost never wanted to get out of this one.

Look 5: Magic Happens with Pink & Glitter

I thought a touch of femininity and romanticism was in order when I dressed up in this one – for it has everything a little girl wants as her dream dress. But this grown-up girl today has a few tweaks to her childhood fantasy, without compromising on the pink or the glitter, all thanks to Selezza London. A straight-cut silhouette with a deep V back added a hint of playfulness to this alluring ensemble. I simply put on a piece of matching silver bracelets from a set, a dusty rose headpiece to match and a faux fur jacket to keep me warm – true princess vibes!

Look 6: Fleur de la Mode

Girls just want to have fun! And this girl wanted some fun with florals, which in my opinion, is evergreen and will never go out of fashion! And as any true timeless piece, I pulled this dress of mine from my earlier years of fashion collections and decided to breathe new life into it in 2020. The silk floral print is still as vibrant, and the beaded Swarovski neck gives it even more glamour. I love the versatility of it because it can also be worn as a tunic top with jeans under, for something more modest. For a little more edge, I ditched the delicate heels and put on my white boots. A little vintage, a little retro, a lot modern – I love this one!

Look 7: In Pink, We Trust

I know pink has been a favourite of mine this season, but this time, I decided to bring out less of the shade’s delicate and more of its urbane characteristics. And the best way to do that – just throw on a solid pink coat over a denim dress. To me, this coat has more than one function – not only did it keep me warm, but it also made me feel empowered. While I paired it with my trusty white hoops and boots, you could just as easily wear your favourite white sneakers, if you’re on the run. Who says pink is only for fun? This time, it means business!

Look 8: A Cosmopolitan in Mustard

I wanted my final look to be a simple yet stand-out piece and I figured that the trick to achieving that was going for a solid colour – so I put my faith in a mustard linen pant-suit set from Hobbs, and I have absolutely no regrets. I put on a pair of black boots and some minimal jewellery, to let the suit take centre stage. If I was not a believer in yellow before, I definitely am a convert now!

Look 9: Unique Tweed

I sported a unique ‘Vineyard Tweed’ coat by Canadian-based luxury brand – Studio Lorem Ipsum, which creates unique styles of outerwear that embrace and frame various body-types, with premium material and timeless styles. This coat is spun together with layers of white, blue and yellow tweed tresses to keep you warm, has an inner pure silk lining for a luxurious feel and has frayed edges for a contemporary look. It was the focal point of my look, paired with a white tank, solid mustard trousers from a Hobbs suit, black ankle boots and a chunky statement neckpiece.

That’s a wrap on my fashion rack from this season! Can you tell me which looks were your favourite?

Indian Wedding Outfit Inspirations

The big fat Indian wedding is a celebration of two souls coming together and also the time to bring on your Fashion A-game! Looking back on some of the outfits I have seen over the last few months, here are some suggestions you can take inspiration from. For this piece, we are covering five outfits from the more commonly loved categories of Indian wear – lehengas and sarees.

Ornate Foliage

This Payal Singal gold and deep green lehenga set comes with an ornate v-neck sleeveless blouse and a deep back that can be fastened at the back, and is adorned with heavy gold floral embroidery. The A-line skirt is made with layers of pale gold net and an overlay of a stripe-like design and embroidery of gold foliage on emerald fabric.

This pattern also runs on the borders of the sheer-lightweight dupatta, which ties the whole look together. The dupatta also has tiny embellishments scattered over the sheer net fabric, to tie the whole look together.

Fresh Mint, Anyone?

Mint may sound like an unusual choice, in a sea of vibrant or dark coloured lehengas, but this one is a show-stopper! With modest, elbow length sleeves and a scoop neck, the ‘choli’ comes alive with embroidery in rich colour and motifs of peacock feathers in gold. This pattern continues on the front-central portion of the skirt, while the rest of the ‘gher’ is dotted with deep colourful Indian motifs on the pale mint background, making it eye-catching, yet, no too loud. It also comes with a sheer dupatta, that is bordered with navy tassels to mimic the colour from the motifs on the bodice of the outfit.

You Can Never go Wrong with Pink!

This fresh pink piece is as much of a standout at an evening event as at a day function. The spaghetti blouse, although like the other also has colourful beading and embroidery details, it stands out because of the ruffle fabric that effortlessly flow. The full princess skirt, has midnight-blue and silver tassels running in symmetric vertical lines right from the waist, and meets up with more vibrant motifs at the hem.

You can also opt to wear this one without a dupatta, that won’t come in the way when you are breaking a leg on the dancefloor. One less thing to worry about! For a bit of fun and contrast, you can complete this look with a rani pink lip.

The Modern Traditional

A hand-painted silk saree is always special and the beautiful contrast of beige and marron is a classic combination. It is perfect for a traditional day time function, but can also be embellished for a more edgy look. Pleat up the ‘pallu’ and fasten a black belt around, for a modern take, which also makes it practical as it secures everything in place, without you having to worry about the fabric shifting too much.

Royalty with a Touch of Glam

This deep purple georgette saree is gorgeous as is and can be worn just like that at any function. Tiered ruffles at the hem and on the ‘pallu’ give it a modern, almost undone, look, and the V-neck halter blouse completes the silhouette. But the piece de resistance is the beaded jacket, in different shades of purple and silver. It is also very practical for more chilly climates or for a touch of more modesty to the look.

So, which one of these do you have your eyes on?

Valentines Day Outfit Ideas

The most romantic holiday of the year is here, and 2020 is giving us all a whole weekend to celebrate Valentine’s Day! And with a little help from ‘& Other Stories’ and the colour red we have put together some outfit ideas for a romantic rendezvous with your partner or a first date.

Outfit 1: The Boss Babe

Choosing an outfit for an after-work Valentine’s date can seem a little daunting. Why not opt for this cute, red full sleeves, button-down jumper, paired with ankle-length cut-off denim pants? The gold-heart button details make this rather appropriate for the occasion of Valentine’s, and is not too flashy when on official meetings.  Add on a pair of blue flats and a necklace and this ensemble will make an easy yet stylish statement for a pub-night with your beau or an evening with your Galentines.

Outfit 2: So Sweet

Have a fancy date at a luxury restaurant? Ditch your standard LBD and get with the red theme of St. Valentine’s with the Jacquard Puff Sleeve Midi Slit Dress. The length of the dress gives an elegant and tall shape to one’s silhouette, and the gathered sleeves add detail to the design. Clasp on a pair of strappy heel sandals in a metallic finish for a bit more festivity and glimmer, and an elegant bag to match. This one is sure to make heads turn!

Outfit 3: The Modern Retro

This Relaxed Heart Motif Dotted Sweater is a cosy knitted piece with puffed sleeves and polka-dot and heart details in a contrasting bright white against the Valentine Red backdrop. You could pair it with anything you like, such as jeans, or a black skirt like I have done here. I decided to make this sweater’s true partner the patent white boots instead – a nod to the cooler retro American diner era. Add a colourful handbag and you’re all ready for a Sunday brunch date and then to snuggle up watching your favourite rom-com!

But do not feel obligated to conform to the Valentine Red from the colour palette. Play with textures and patterns with co-ords like this tailored hight waisted tweed mini skirt and jacket. For a more sensational look, you could also opt for a jumpsuit like the black belted puff sleeve romper for a night about town. The options are endless!

Our recommendation for your best companions on your date is confidence and a pretty smile.

My OOTD Looks For The Season

As we step into the New Year, my mantra for the season is looking good and feeling good. I have some serious outfit inspirations for my followers, with some mix and match ideas from my current wardrobe to create the most amazing outfits without a lot of effort. Here are some of the best OOTD looks that I would recommend for the season!

Jumper scarf with belt

With this OOTD, I simply experimented with my scarf’s drape and wow….I was surprised with my own creativity! I draped a bright orange tasseled scarf over my jumper and secured it with a broad black leather belt for an absolutely novel style. An ordinary outfit taken to the next level, isn’t it? And the best thing is that it accentuates your waistline.

So fashionistas, let’s get inspired by this OOTD and find those flowing summer dresses in our closets!

Dressing this Winter season- Here are the 3 best looks!

As the seemingly endless summer came to an end. It’s time to dress up and flaunt the best we have in our pre-winter wardrobes. And I suggest some creative mix-and-match looks that can be ideated by combining different pieces that you have and creating versatile outfits for work and party. Here are three stellar looks that I want to share for autumn 2018.

The office look – straight skirt with or without jacket

Ribbed Turtleneck Top
Price: £16.95

Sassy Pleats Skirt
Price: £39.95

Let’s start with this stylish office look that I’ve created by wearing a grey pencil skirt with a red turtleneck. The Sassy Pleats Skirt in grey and red check is simple yet elegant and is embellished with decorative buttons to the back. It is teamed with a red ribbed turtleneck that offers warmth and complements it to perfection.

Coat from New Look

For jewelry, I chose to wear simple pearls with the outfit. And you can throw over the Red Check Bouclé Coat for extra layering and formal vibe. The ensemble is just right for the office and can carry you to the evening drinks as well!

The evening look-Jeans with sequin jumper

Sequin Embellished Jumper – Purple
Price: £45

Overdye Blue Jeggings
Price: £45

Taking the Chelsea Boot to new heights
Price: £75.00

The next is the stunning evening look, with a pair of skinny jeans and a delicate sequin jumper. The dark blue skinny jeans offer awesome comfort, while the gorgeous sequins provide just the right dose of glitz and glamour to make heads turn as you step into the pub. I chose to wear ankle-length boots with the outfit.

Eye-catching without going over the top-that’s how I would define this amazing evening look.

The casual look- Green puffer jacket with jeans

Cartmell Lightweight Down Jacket Detail
Price: £80.00

Overdye Blue Jeggings
Price: £45

Now that I talked about the office and evening-out looks, I would next talk about this swanky day-out look. This one is again with my dark blue jeans, this time teamed with a chic green puffer jacket.

The best thing about the jacket is that it is ultra-lightweight yet offers plenty of warmth because it is lightly down-filled. And I absolutely love this shade of green. Once again, I have finished the look with my black ankle-length boots.

So that sums up my three autumn styles for this season. Hope you’ll love them as much as I do!

How to Create Your Own Stunning Summer Look

Summertime and vacationing are a match made in heaven. This divine combination is may be responsible for our overstuffed wardrobes. Let’s be honest – how many times do we buy clothes, shoes, or accessories thinking, “this will look so good on a beach vacation” or “hey, this outfit will really help beat the heat”? Countless, I’m sure.

But the art to smart shopping and intelligent fashion is having a ready-to-go capsule wardrobe which comprises of essentials that can create multiple looks. You basically curate a set of clothes and accessories that are versatile, stylish, and oh-so-comfy. I have a holiday capsule wardrobe for summer vacationing, most of it comprising clothes and accessories by Hush, which is a lovely brand for summer-wear. Here’s what you’ll find in my capsule wardrobe:

An Embroidered Relax-Fit Top

Loosely-fitted frilly tops are quite in vogue these days. They are particularly suited for summertime vacationing since they do not stick to the body. Also, the long sleeves prevent tanning. You can team such tops with jeans, shorts, and even skirts, which make them a wonderful addition to your holiday capsule wardrobe.

 A Floral Midi

Florals are a spring-summer staple and combined with the flowy goodness of well-fitting midis, they make for the perfect holiday outfit. Casual yet distinctive, floral midis are a comfy outfit when traveling. You can accessorize such an outfit with a large straw hat and big boho hat. I often wear midis to the beach since I can easily wear a swimsuit beneath them.

A Shirt Dress

Shirt dresses are effortlessly chic. I typically pair a shirt dress with sneakers and a belt which add a youthful dimension to the outfit. If you are wary to go down the androgynous path, you can accessorize with long earrings, bracelets and neckpieces. Additionally, go in for dresses in bright colours, to ensure the final effect is cool and summery.

A Pair of Funky Trainers

I simply love funky footwear and nothing looks better than a pair of sneakers with interesting detailing. They are a great choice for summer vacations since you can walk in them all day long, without getting tired. I would recommend getting a pair in a neutral shade that is sure to complement multiple outfits, including evening-wear.

Printed Culottes

Culottes have become oft-worn office attire but in my opinion, they are equally well-suited for casual wear. In fact, I would probably carry a pair of culottes on vacations over jeans since they are more comfortable, and also quite edgy. Printed culottes look even better in matching sets, and a great option for lounging in the hotel or a coffee-shop when vacationing.

A Basket-Style Bag

Hobo bags have been a popular choice for summertime vacationing. But if you want something edgier, more distinctive, a basket-style bag would be an ideal choice. They are roomy, sturdy, and easy to clean. Be it on the beach, the hills, a cab, or a bus, a basket-style bag would be both an asset as a carry-all, and fashion statement as an accessory.

Summer Holiday Look with Aspiga

Summer is finally here, and I could not be more excited! Warm weather means that I can break out the bright colours, floral prints, open toe sandals…the works. But the best part is that I can finally wear fabrics that I don’t get to wear for the rest of the year – textiles like linen, crochet and cotton, to name a few. Cotton, in particular, is one of my go-to fabrics in warm weather – it’s lightweight and breathable, which means that it helps you stay relatively cool when it’s hot outside.

Furthermore, I am a big believer in the ‘less is more’ mantra when it comes to staying cool in warm weather. I love to wear shorts instead of long pants and feel the most comfortable in a loose, soft cotton shirt. The beautiful Camila Cotton Blouse by Aspiga is right up my street. Not only is it made of cotton and has a loose fit that hangs wonderfully off the shoulders (which means that I can stay cool as a cucumber while still looking stylish!); it also has gorgeous detailing to boot.

I decided to pair the blouse with casual, loose fitted shorts. The Marisa Linen Shorts in white caught my eye for this look. Linen is another great fabric to wear in the summer because it’s relatively heat resistant and allows your skin to breathe as well. These shorts were the perfect complement to the embroidered blouse, but you could just as easily pair them with a loose cotton shirt or a printed camisole as well – they are super versatile, stylish and comfortable. What more does a girl need?

Now, when it comes to footwear in the summertime, I love a good strappy sandal. The Komosa Sandal in Coral by Aspiga is a great pair – the nude tones mean that you can pair these sandals with many different kinds of outfits, and the beaded discs give a pop of colour that is perfect for spicing up an all-white outfit or complementing an already-colourful look without being over the top. The best part is that they are handcrafted from leather and of great quality, so they won’t come apart after a couple of wears.

To finish off this ensemble, I needed an oversized bag. I like to opt for large totes in the summertime, because they are great for carrying everything I need, whether it’s for a day out on the town or a trip to the beach, while also being versatile enough to work with different outfits. I instantly gravitated towards the Starfish Jute Beach bag, featuring a subtle embroidered starfish – the embroidery gave the bag an interesting twist without being too overwhelming and taking away from the rest of my outfit.

And there you have it, ladies! My ultimate, summertime ensemble. My favourite part about each of these pieces by Aspiga is the sheer quality of the craftsmanship, and the attention to detail in elements like the embroidery and beading – a summertime outfit definitely needs both. If you’re on the hunt for great pieces to sport in warm weather, look no further than Aspiga – you will find some great, one-of-a-kind pieces that will last you for summers to come.

Capsule Summer Wardrobe with FatFace

Summertime travel is so inspiring. This year, I decided to vacation at Bath, and lo and behold, my fashion senses were tingling. Here I have put together a few of my favourite looks to share with you all, from the looks created with FatFace. For me these outfits are basically summer essential clothes and accessories which, if fashioned intelligently, can create a versatile capsule wardrobe that’s handy for work and vacations alike!

Let’s look at some of these outfits.
1. The first look is an ode to the fabulous femininity of a sun-kissed diva. I wore a colourful FatFace midi dress, with a kaleidoscope print in warm, bright colours. I teamed it with flat, tan sandals by Salt-Water, and a sleeved denim jacket by Tasha. I accessories with a wide-brimmed straw-hat and completed the look with light makeup.

This ensemble is perfect for a day outing where chances of sun-exposure are high. The hat and jacket-sleeves prevent excessive tanning while the light-weighted dress and sandals keep you blissfully cool. I would recommend it for picnics, brunches, and if you’re on holiday, day-time sightseeing.

Outfit Details:

2. My second ensemble is simple, yet chic – a fine sartorial choice for casual to semi-formal dressing. I teamed a stiped white-and grey dress with the tan Salt-Water flats and pair of brown-tinged aviators. The flared shape of the dress and hip pockets give it a semi-formal look, while the open-toed, strappy sandals prevent the ensemble from being too professional.

I would happily wear this outfit to an afternoon brunch with work buddies, or perhaps even an event at my son’s school. With such a combination, the possibilities are endless! Here I have teamed this dress with a jeans jacket to give.

Outfit Details:

3. My final outfit is more of a casual office look. I wore a pair of navy Copper & Black culottes having a knotted belt, side and back pockets, and a relaxed fitting. In terms of top wear, I chose a striped, cutwork blouse with ruffle detailing and scalloped trim hem. Black block wedge heels completed the look, which is sophisticated and professional without being strictly formal.

It’s the kind of outfit I like to wear to the office on the day I know is either going to be long or somewhat relaxed, like a Friday.

The brilliance of having a summer capsule wardrobe is that you can travel for pleasure or work purposes without too much baggage. Additionally, if you don’t have too much time to dress in the morning, your seasonally appropriate ensembles are well-arranged to just a put-on and go. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Go ahead and build your own capsule wardrobe too!

Jackets as a Styling Accessory

As the weather changes and we slip into sunny Spring after a chilling Winter, wardrobe rearrangement is in order. The warmer clothes need to be pushed to the farther nooks and crannies; lighter, brighter clothes need to come forth!

I was in the midst of such wardrobe shuffling when I realized that no matter what the weather is like, jackets never go “out of season”. They are worn in some capacity or the other, all year ‘round. In wintertime, they serve a more functional purpose of course. But for the rest of the year, jackets are a great accessory to jazz up outfits in many, many ways.

Jacket from Shein

Jacket from Monsoon

Statement jacket #jacketlove #jacketseason #fashionbloggerTake, for instance, the Spring or Summer-time jacket styles. Printed jackets, denim jackets, and statement styles fit in wonderfully with many kinds of ensembles. I often team up light, printed jackets with casual jeans in the beginning of Spring, when there’s still some chill in the air. The best part is, I can experiment with different kinds of prints (floral, ethnic, geometric, and so on) and colours to fashion outfits according to the occasion.

I also sport denim jackets quite often – they are just so versatile. Light and customizable, jean jackets are great partners to casual and semi-formal outfits. Personally, my favourite look is a sleeveless denim jacket teamed with a skirt or even as a pair of shorts or jeans.

Jacket from Shein

But even as one may not be a jacket aficionado like me, everyone should own at least one statement jacket. Statement jackets are natural head-turners and add glamour to the simplest outfits. I have a fancy indigo statement jacket with white and pink floral motifs. Trust me, I get complimented each time I head out in this fabulous number. Other interesting statement jacket styles include sequined jackets, tie-and-dye styles, and if you’re one for the classics, biker-chic leather jackets too. The trick to finding the perfect statement piece is making sure it’s true to your personal style. I you like bling, go for a sequined one. If you prefer fusion styles, go for embroidered pieces, embellished Nehru jackets, or tie-and-dye styles.

If you’re still not convinced about how wonderfully jackets blend into every season’s fashionable best, consider the raincoat. Raincoats – or rather their trendy cousin windcheaters – are great to wear in the rainy season. You can use them as a shield against the downpour and look the sartorial picture of perfection at casual outings. Similarly, for the winter season, you have the ever-green puffer jacket. These quilted pieces assure warmth and elegant stylistics, all at the same time. In fact, I have numerous puffer jackets in different colours and detailing, and am always on the lookout for more!

But aside from my personal love for jackets, from a stylist’s perspective too, they are fantastic accessories; add a jacket to your simple ensemble and it transforms into a fashionable statement that never goes unnoticed. This is why I think that my growing collection of jackets is not a problem. It’s an investment; an investment is effortlessly chic dressing, all through the year!
